I first got interested in RPG Maker after watching X-Play do a review of RPG Maker for the Play Station. Years later I found RPG Maker VX Ace and decided to buy it. My first RPG Maker game, Dragon Lancer, was approved by Deckiller and became available to download on January 15, 2013.

Game / Engine Count:

RPG Maker VX Ace = 12
Visual Novel Maker = 3
RPG Maker MV = 2
Ren'Py = 2
Pixel Game Maker MV = 1
Solarus = 1
Inform 7 = 1

Why does great looking indie games get cancelled?

At least having a demo is something, but just images and
description don't really tell me much (even if what they
planned is possible to do.)

Submitting a game page and never submitting a download
(even a demo) seems sort of pointless.

But I think a demo is only useful if your game is going to be
an epic game, perhaps like 30 hours or something.

I just think if your going to submit a game page that
you should commit yourself to actually finishing the game,
if not have finished the game already or are getting close.

[Poll] Coming up with a name for this battle system...

Outside of mtgo, I don't know anyone who plays Prismatic.

Making a 250 card deck with at least 20 cards of each colour is not
an easy task.

Title Screen

Here's an example of what you could do.

Why does great looking indie games get cancelled?

Perhaps what the person wanted to do in the game is too
difficult to do.

I see a lot of cancelled games. And some are using old RPG Makers.
Some people decide to upgrade to something more easy to use than
RPG Maker 2003 for example.

My policy. I don't post the game page until the game is completed
and the download is ready. That way no one can be
disappointed - unless they're disappointed because the game totally
sucks :)

Title Screen

With the image background, and some text using http://www7.flamingtext.com/
you could make a titlescreen using Gimp. That's what I did with the new
game I'm making. Gimp is free to download, but takes some time getting used to.
Just make sure your title screen is the right size 544x416.

Menu Modification!

Do you even need a menu then?
You could just disable the menu for the entire game.

Focus on Puzzles/Dungeons

Games's don't even need monsters or leveling up.

You could have a puzzle game, where there's a town, some story
background. But you could completely focus on puzzles with
no fighting at all. Imagine an RPG with no random encounters.
Something like Zelda or Alundra, but more focused on one
element.

Edit: You could even have experience points or leveling
from completing puzzles. Or the player gains some sort of title,
etc..

Start with story or start with world?

I start with a basic idea for the story. When I'm working on the map
and events the story progresses with it. Sometimes when I'm creating a map
I change my story a tad to suite it. But I think story is important so that
you have the motivation to complete. You now what is going to happen at the
end of the game and how to get there. You can always make changes that suit the
world you are going to make.

Review Exchange!

Didn't RMN have some things in the past for this.
Like Secret Santa. Or write so many reviews to get more points.
It sounds like a cool idea though.

What program do you recommend?

RPG Maker VX Ace is the newest and most up to date
program for making rpgs.

If you want to customize tiles, which didn't seem
to be your question I would go with Gimp, which is free,
if not very easy to understand at first,
