THEDIGITALMONK'S PROFILE

I have a fairy in a cage next to my computer. I feed it peanuts and Diet Dr Pepper. When I want ideas, I beat it with a wooden paddle.
I pretty much only do music for games now. I have good ideas for story or gameplay every now and then, but I'm not good enough to make it happen. If you see me as the developer of a group game, you can rest assured that I'm doing the music and really just acting as a sounding board for the other developers.

Possible Idea: RMN Platinum (or something like that)
Looking at those Misaos, it's really cool, but it's still not as focused as a Platinum award.
And no one would get their feelings hurt if they didn't get a plat because it would be reserved for the best-of-the-best-of-the-best.
Plus, RMN needs some "flagships"

Something that is nice about RMN is that it hosts tons of different games. This however comes at a fairly steep price that is the bane of this kind of organization.... the truly remarkable games get lost in the sea of others. Having so many games makes it feel like a big pile of games that you have to rummage through.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting a complete revamp of the sites organization (which on a whole is great) but rather to give permanent recognition to the best of the best RM games.
I know that there's already a 'featured games' and a rating system in place, but it doesn't quite do justice, which is why I propose...
The RMN Platinum Awards!
Or you can call it something else, whatever floats your boat.... but basically it'd be a list of maybe 3 or 4 of the finest games RMN has to offer. This would not only give these games the recognition they deserve, but it also helps newcommers to the RMN see the best we have to offer.
Yes???!! :)
...welp.

When do you think is a good time to be able to change your party?
Definitely don't let the player choose their own party until ALL of the characters have had characterization and backstory. Basically, the player has to bond with each character before being allowed to choose the ones he or she wants.
But unless I read wrong, you have..... 17 party members? From one writer to another, trim that down. You're spreading yourself too thin. You should limit yourself to 10 MAX.

Someday, I might compose for film/movies

Don't mean to insult your knowledge/intelligence or anything (in case you already know this)... But if you can compose using staff notation then you can input it on a program like guitar pro, then you can export the midi (or just compose in midi first), then you can import the midi into a program like Propellerhead's Reason and assign the midi tracks to different output devices set up as the correct instruments with 32-bit effects, mixing, mastering and pretty much everything you could possibly need.. If you can find the right resources. Alternatively you can just compose entirely in reason.. It has a keyboard interface.
Then you can export the whole track as a .wav and convert the .wav to MP3 using readily available and free software. It's dead easy. I make music too (Or rather I DID, when I was in college), nowhere near as nicely composed as yours though.
Really nice composition on the piece you uploaded by the way. :)
Wow, super thank you for those tips, I will definitely look into that at some point in the near future.

dude, your circle of life drum corps-style video blew my mind. you have some pretty mad rudiment skills.
Haha, i've actually marched drum corps. I'll be marching again next summer most likely.
The line I was in last summer:

The two lines I'm trying out for this year:

And as for composing, I'm doing a super secret collaboration with someone here on the site, but I don't know if he/she wants me to post up what I'm working on or have it a surprise for the game's release.
Regardless though, I'm actually enrolled in a midi composition class back at school, so plan on hearing some really cool things that you will hopefully get to use in your games. I'm hoping to someday get into MP3s but I simply don't have the right tools at my disposal right now. :(
so unfair.
Late to the party
Best VG Soundtracks + overrated
....jesus..... the even sadder part is that at some point in time, someone actually OK'd that into the game......
So, I missed out on the Gamecube era...
Starfox began and ended with 64. Don't bother with any of the others. Mario sunshine is a nice one, paper mario is great (especially chapter 3... I want to make an RM game inspired by that, who's with me?) and you can't go wrong with Wind Waker.
OH!!!!!
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. Now.

Oh, by the way, the ALL TIME WORST EVER MAKE ME VOMIT soundtrack of all time is the RTP soundtrack from rm2k/3..... if anyone here used ANY of those tracks........ shame on you.
Best VG Soundtracks + overrated
Wow, that crisis core track is fantastic, haven't played the game though. Even though I consider FF7 to be a pretty mediocre game, it has a great great soundtrack. I've also thought of my most overrated award...
Most Overrated: Final Fantasy 8
Now granted, there ARE a lot of good tracks in this game, (and I'm still not very far yet, I just started it), it pales in comparison to the great ff7 and ff9 scores.
