I have a fairy in a cage next to my computer. I feed it peanuts and Diet Dr Pepper. When I want ideas, I beat it with a wooden paddle.
I pretty much only do music for games now. I have good ideas for story or gameplay every now and then, but I'm not good enough to make it happen. If you see me as the developer of a group game, you can rest assured that I'm doing the music and really just acting as a sounding board for the other developers.

Check out my latest demo. I put it on the first post for convenience too.

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys!
I'm taking a class next semester that is supposedly about composing midi and I'll be posting tons more music online that you are all free to use as you like :P That won't start until about 3 months though.

Best VG Soundtracks + overrated
THE RULES:
Begin your post with (in order) your top 3 favorite game soundtracks of all time. Then select the single worst or most over-rated soundtrack of all time. Feel free to elaborate after that, but no ties, no "some of my favorites", a strict 1 2 3. Games based on movies (Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter) are disqualified.
===
1. Final Fantasy XIII
2. Heavy Rain
3. Metal Gear Solid 4
Dubious Award: Final Fantasy VIII. Overrated and not nearly as good as VII and IX which came right before and after.

I'll put together something more planned out next time. :D
That one I literally just threw together in the 15 or so minutes before I whipped out my camera.

I don't have any programs as of right now except ones that do sheet music :(
Maybe I'll post a video of me playing though.
EDIT: 'Tis the video. The melody ended up sucking, but it was improvised, so you win some and you lose some. It's just to show an idea. It was put together kinda quick so the form could use a bit work, but it shows that I at least know what I'm doing.

IF YOU WERE RE-DIRECTED HERE FROM THE MUSE PAGE!!:
My post was slightly unclear, when I said my new stuff was going to "blow those old demos out of the water," I was talking about MY old demos (listed below) and NOT the music in the Muse demo (which is fantastic, and I'm striving to match that). :D
EDIT: The topic was supposed to read "film/games".... oops :)
Sup rmn, for those who don't know (which is most everyone) I'm a music student and I've been having thoughts whirring around as of late about composing... I've been composing all my life, but I've just now gotten serious about it because I've finally realized that the gap between me and the big leagues is not nearly as large as I once thought. So anyway, I'm not really taking this thread anywhere, just opening up a discussion about anyone here who wants to talk about composing music for game and film (they're similar/identical nowadays).
Thoughts?

Who needs help?
Fonts
So I'm pretty sure this has been covered before but I couldn't find the topic...
in RM2K3, the font in SOME of the games is all crappy and hard to read, but in others, it looks great. I'm pretty much positive that somewhere, there's a font patch, but here's my question...
Does the font patch work for my computer specifically or does it work for the game specifically? In other words... if I make a game and I used the font patch, when I send it to someone else who does NOT have the patch, do they get the good font or the bad font?
Also, can someone link meh a download? I need to fix this before I can move on at all :(

Writing.... on paper
Well, I'm currently taking a break after 3 solid hours of brainstorming my game on a pad of yellow paper. My plan is to essentially make the game 100% on paper before even touching RPGMaker. I've done this once before and it worked wonders. I made the best game I had yet made and it literally only took me one weekend to create (and it ended up being a couple hours long, too!). It just goes to show that solid planning makes for efficient use of time. I can't even begin to tell you how many trash-bin projects I've made from just sitting in RM trying to come up with ideas. It's the oddest thing. Also, if I draw out my maps on paper before going to rpgmaker, they become more aesthetically pleasing and have more structure to them.
Has anyone here ever planned their games on paper? (And by plan, I mean write out the plot, write an outline for every scene, draw some maps before actually making them, etc...)

Can't stay away!
Once you've been bitten by the RM bug, it's impossible to give it up for good. I think I'll be making a triumphant return (many of you did not know i was here to begin with :D ) but that's ok. I mostly hung around other sites lots of years ago. Anyway, does anyone have advice for someone who's looking to get back into the community? I'm thinking about making a "short" game to brush off my rustiness but these days it's a lot harder to start from scratch than it used to be (what with all the fancier aesthetics that I still am not good at yet... matching graphic styles, lighting, custom menu/battles/whatever). Anyone have some advice?
