Welp. I just beat the game, and wow that was one hell of a game. So many positives in the story telling. It had me wanting more, and more from the game.

I feel like the combat was a bit un-balanced, and leveling up felt super underwhelming. @_@

Overall though I greatly enjoyed the game.

Gah! It's Pandora's blasted healing spell I tell ya! I think it changed the battle dynamic for the worse. I'm removing it in the next version. Regardless, I'm glad you had a good time.

I ran a virus check with AVG Anti-Virus before releasing the game. Just did another check now and everything is coming up clean, so you should be fine. For some reason, some anti-viruses seem to mistake vx ace game launchers for viruses.

Access to the caste is actually supposed to be sealed for the final battle segment, an error that will be corrected in the game's next version. I initially didn't give Pandora a healing spell, so I think I'll remove it. It seems to be making the combat a little too easy. I struggled against the final boss before Pandora could heal, though my party's levels were in the lower 20's. Thanks for your input!

Oh, I forgot to mention that I do intend to have sidequests and scenario's in the sequel.

IKnight42- No sweat. Truth be told, I don't like puzzles that much either. I only added ones that I thought were fun, though I suppose everything seems easy when you know the answer.

guillaume19977- Thanks for letting me know about this, I've found the problem. You only need to defeat Damien to win the battle, so focus your attacks on him.

SilverRift- Completing certain sidequests will get you items that you can take to the cauldron to be converted into darkness points. Proceeding through the main story will get you quite a few points as well.

IKnight42- BerryRMN explained the answer quite well a while back, so I'll just use his post. Here's the solution.

The order of the orbs is shown as follows.

1 2 3 == 4 5 6

Do the following 6 combinations in the following order.

4 3 4 1 4 5

That should work.

SilverRift- Yeah, I had the monsters drop items instead of gold because I love the feeling of grinding for a while then turning in the spoils of battle for an epic pile of loot. I also thought it was a good opportunity to spice up the game with some flavor text.

Elvario- Heh, well I don't want to spoil anything for you, so I won't confirm or deny your speculations, but I will say that your intuition is very good. I have pretty high expectations of quality, and I'd only want to release something that I myself would thoroughly enjoy, so don't worry, I have no intention of rushing the next game.

I've heard that positive feedback is sometimes given with caution for fear of the developer becoming too comfortable with their current level of skill, stunting their growth. The opposite is true for me. After reading Starmage's review, I was motivated to take some more time to add in extras like character voices and upgrade the post battle and level up screens. Hearing how much everyone enjoyed this one makes me want to outdo myself, so I'm aiming to make the sequel even better in at least some respects. I'm going to keep plugging away at the lingering bugs in this game, since I want it to be the best it can be. Hopefully by the time I release the upgraded version, I'll have gotten them all.

Thanks for sharing that story with me, and for generally being awesome. I'll be sure to put that lesson to good use.

Umbral Soul Review

(squeals like a little girl) *ahem* Sorry about that. You'll have to forgive my excitement, but this review has put a smile on my face so wide my cheeks are starting to hurt.

The heads up about those mapping issues is very much appreciated. It sounds like a stray testing event was left in there somehow too. I'll have to hunt it down and eliminate it. Sheesh, just when you think you've fixed everything. I left an answer to your question about the sidequests on the game's message board, though it sounds like you managed to find most if not all of them.

Ah yes, the faces; aka the bane of my existence. The photo editing program I used to tweak some of the facesets has a bad habit of decreasing the quality of the images or misaligning them. The demon maids were the most troublesome of all, since I had to pull their facesets from a very tiny image, making them pretty blurry. Perhaps I can go back and figure out a way to sharpen them up.

I want this game to be as polished as possible, so I'm going to run through it again squashing all the little glitches. I was also thinking of adding some more scenario's and a few other bells and whistles to make it worth replaying. Finally, there's one special surprise coming up that I think you'll enjoy.

Thanks for this very generous review, Elvario. Knowing that you had such a good time encourages me to develop even more games for everyone to enjoy. I hope you'll join me for the sequel as well!

Heh heh, well I suppose if you really want to know what happens, you'll just have to play the sequel, won't you? Oh, and you're going to want to avoid making consecutive posts, the moderators don't like that. If you want add something to a previous post, you can hit the "Edit" button. Good night!

Umbral Soul

It's great to hear you're having a good time, guillaume! I can't really say when the sequel is going to be out, but I can say that it won't take nearly as long to make as this game. You'll be playing as the heroes, which means you'll be fighting everyone you were playing as in this game.

Sounds like you're in the invisible pathway puzzle. Just keep trying to move around the room and the pathway should appear when you step on the correct invisible squares. The visible squares are hints to where the pathways lead.

I have been playing this game for long non-stop. Came here after being stuck at the Rallen's Tower fire area.

There are 4 fire pits towards the chest which i cant cross before the fire bursts again. What should i do?

Hold shift while using the movement buttons to dash. If you time it right, you should be able to make it.
