i am very anti random encounter for this reason (not to say that i've never enjoyed a game that had them but i always found dungeons built around the random encounter system to be much less fun)

i will say that having boring mazes is more of a sign of bad design than anything having to do with chests

how can an rpg be denied

i sometimes come off that way to alot of people

(maybe it's because they are actually not too far off!)

you need to detail that map more, definately

not gonna go all 3 tile rule on you but some flowers or weeds here and there, vines/cracks in the rocks, or some windows on the buildings would be good (you can add chimneys to the roofs as well)
