[RM2K3] problems with doors

The Switch event ON is what you're doing wrong.

When you enter and leave a screen, things tend to reset. Go inside, go back out, it should reset. UNLESS you have activated a switch. Switches tend to hold things still.

Do not ever split Hide Screen between pages. It doesn't work the way you think, it shuts on a switch for the next page, and then in dark you have to press action again on the event.

Also, let's assume you want a door to hang open. You'll find that are long as it's the same screen, you can perform this simply with the following, assuming Door event facing Down is closed and Door facing Up is open (you can edit the sprites to make sure of this, if it isn't). And no, you do not need Fade Out at all. On one of the tabs, there's a teleport options dropdown that allows you to change transition type. You can set it to default to fade in and then fade out.

Here's a bonus lesson, on making a passable one page door

Make a touch event.

<> If Door is facing Up
<> If Event Started By Action
<> Move Door, Facing Down
<> End Event Processing
End
Comment: Everything after this is if door is facing up but you touch
<> Teleport: same room, retain facing
<> Move Door, Facing Up
Comment: Remove the Move Door her, unless you find it trying to close
<> End Event Processing
End
<> If Door is Facing Down
<> If Event Started by Action
<> Move Door, Face Up
<> End Event Processing
End

Without any switches (you could use phasing for this, but I've occasionally had phasing hang on, causing slip through for everything) you now have a door that behaves like a door. Walk towards it, you pass through. Grab it, and you open or close.

Let's Play: My Own Game

It's a bit late this week, because of family stuff (nephews coming and running around the house).

Part 5 up! In our last episode, we explored the Four Gods temple, and solved a number of puzzles and unlocked some doors by throwing keys at them. Ambrosia also used a magic ring to light torches. At long last, the group fought a giant chicken, a big cat, a turtle, and a snake or something. Ambrosia got a new power, and made her was to a cave. Will Ambrosia be able to make her way through the cave and find her way to the other side? Watch and find out!

3at a Cactus - Be in my game!

I'm not sure I saw myself in the game (I got stuck in the one part of town though, so I dunno) but everyone was a lizard, so I'm happy.

<--- Lizard ppl are awesome.

[RMK23] making an npc disappear after moving

Ummmm, the first thing I do when making an rpg is to make a (None) charset sheet.

Move down (or whatever), down, down, down, change graphic (None)

Then use a switch afterwards to put that event above or below the hero with the switch ON.

Best way to disappear while moving is just to make it part of the movement.

You also want to be sure that Ignore Impossible is checked on the off chance you miscalculated something.

[RM2K3] Big List of Plugins/IPS (Sticky This Please)

HPA patches are probably fine. Font Patches are fine. Splashscreen stuff is fine as long as you leave the Kadokawa one. DynRpg is mainly unworkable just because something in the code is different value from 1.08 and so it's kind of a mismatch. And I would recommend making a backup before you start patching and save it elsewhere.

...Nvm, didn't see the page 2.

Xenomic Streams!

Here's where I started watching.

I'm not actually sure where you're game starts nowadays cuz it was kinda either streaming live (I always miss live streams) or because whatever. You did a party change test and equip test, and like half your equips had drawbacks to the point where one character had like 1 ATK. It was overall a nice test though.

Btw, speaking of Touhou games starting in the middle of things (with the debug), one of the major problems of Touhou fangames is that the creators seem to feel like the potential players are always old fans. I personally want to get into Touhou (blame the fact that like three of my battle charsets are from Touhou), but I tried Wandering Souls, and it was kinda the same deal. Haven't played the real games so no clue what's going on. It was trying to wade into a pool with no shallow end. You can't seem to get a backstory for the characters in alot of them. Or is it that random, that stuff kinda just starts?

Oh god, maybe it IS that random.

Xenomic Streams!

Done with the GPS system! It's kinda awesome that I got it to do directions even though I couldn't do Point A to Point B directions would loads more coding.

That's a strange place to start the game though, you're kinda starting in a party map? Like normally, the game plot happens. And you start with limited items. That's one of my other concerns, the map seems to look okay, but one of the advantages of doing a story playthrough is you get a sense what a map is like when you don't have a ton of extra items.

It could be that, though having made screwy maps, it's usually because I put an arrow in a weird place. That it's an angled tile makes me think you might want to check the tileset arrows.

Xenomic Streams!

See? Better. I'm gonna see if I can't watch this.

I'm kinda weirded out by the sorta debug mode start where you're picking party members, but okay. I test my games 80% of the time by playing, so a debug scream just to test stuff seems weird to me (I do that now and then for battles but usually not). As does testing one dungeon at a time. The bat is stuck in the wall because that tileset has passability wrong somewhere, so it got in but couldn't get out.

...I gotta get back to work. I'm making a GPS mode, and I hit the title button instead of the name button for all of them, so it's not showing the name of the map I named it. Then it's supposed to give you directions. But it was entirely too much stuff for point A to B, so I'm faking it. I dunno, it's at the point where I could technically do that, but I would have to add like 80 common events.

Just started streaming!

Noooo~~~! I like your trash streams.

Maybe ask LockeZ (not so much trash games as troll games) or Milennin (FADE/BETA are at least kinda sketchy).

At the very least, you can probably get referred to crappy games (especially since Locke seems to like that stuff too).

Other than that. Try Sort: Buzz Score Reversed or Sort: Rating Reversed on the filter options. Doing that would probably give you the worst games.

Let's Play: My Own Game

Up to Part 4! Last time, we ummmm kinda just wandered around doing weird stuff. Ambrosia fought some bounties, crossed a mountain, and had a shipwreck. Oh yes, and she met an exorcist, and got stuck in a creepy town where she couldn't leave. Until she left. When our last episode ended, the group crossed a desert and made it to the Four Gods Temple. How will Ambrosia and her group far against the creatures within? Find out now!

This one's indirect linked for NSFW (fairly minor, the group has mushrooms in their stock, and like a dream sequence happens, but still, I'm spoilering the link).
