GIAKS'S PROFILE

A time comes in every man's life when they get shaken to the core, when the river of ambition sinks low to the earth and the very rock that man has built the foundation of his life upon crumbles. There in his tiny shattered world, amongst the rubble of his broken hopes and dreams he waits. Time loses meaning and he watches as eternity fades into oblivion...yet still he waits; for one day he knows the rain will fall.

...and when it does he is reforge, from the mud that surrounds him, from the ash that covers him, from the very spark of thought that has innovated all life...he will rise!

We can shape him, make him to what we want him to be...and in the end...we can be entertained!
RPG MAKER man...it's a ton of fun!!

Majoracanking - np, happy to help.

Fluffpuff - It's good, a little dark...though that could just be my screen settings. To me it looks sorta just like the outline of a red face in the darkness...with some quick curve adjustment the sprite really comes out. I like it.

Arcade Heroes

@giaks: Ah, Shift, right. I never think of Shift as a 'main' key. =P ...It's fun to go around burning slimes, and the title screen is awesome, btw; overall the graphics are pretty cool. My only true complaint is that sometimes the slimes spawn right below you and it's impossible not to take damage. I managed to get a score of 3356 before I got killed this way. =(

I figure the key bindings would probably be changed in Arcade Hero to make all the 'machines' uniform. I'm also not really sure why I used shift, just sort of happened I guess, ya know like it does. I think the music is what really makes the menu, the RMN music pack is great. Yeah I really enjoyed working with the limitations it did wear on me a bit so if that's your only true complaint, you are a far more forgiving person then I am. Thank you.

So I got a chance to play the games today. They were all super fun, I was looking forward to playing Fomar's game...maybe in Arcade Hero?

Solar Platypus -
Very fun, this game so much reminded me of my old Atari 2600 that I may bust it and slam down some hardcore TANKS and Congo Bongo this weekend. I did really enjoy the cleverness of the levels and I thought adding different attack patterns to the enemies was a nice touch, it totally caught me off guard. The music was awesome as well! This game really did feel like a old video game. I hope it makes it into Arcade Hero even if it's not a VX Ace lite game.

A Wizard's Quest -
I had never really thought about it before, however this is basically what I would imagine a turn based RPG arcade game to be. I was very impressed with the logical programming for the battle system, good usage of events, the interface was simple and had a good presentation. The fights felt epic - me at 10 HP vs. 140 HP...I'm hitting for 10, they're hitting for 4...I'm getting way off topic here, I thought it was a lot of fun.

Frikin' Frongs -
The first time I loaded this up I just watched in awe as all the frogs moved around on the screen, I didn't catch their nefarious little plan until it was to late. I have got say, I would probably be spending a lot of quarters on this game. Very smooth eventing, great animations, and all about the score. This was a very neat game.

Since the deadline is going to be extended, maybe we could post something up on the events page? I don't really know how the events page works, maybe a badge needs to be offered to qualify to get up there? Anyway maybe it would grant larger exposure now that the contest is no longer on the 'What's Buzzing' section of the front page and has been extended a bit.

I do think it's a good idea to extend it, I'd love to see more submissions, so far the ones we have are really good. I was thinking about submitting one or two more battlers, I'm just having a hard time figuring out what to put on the shield of one...maybe if we get more entries.

Arcade Heroes

In GLFOS - Shift is attack X is jump

...or should be. If you let Lizardman cross the screen during the title, the intro will play after which a screen with controls pops up as well as credits. I know it doesn't make a lot of sense to throw that in there, that's just how I always remember the Arcades being, with crazy intro's that barely made sense.

Maybe only four games, still I think they are all quality.

Building a House

In 2k3? Are you talking about customizing the outside of the house or the inside, or both? Also are you talking about allowing the player to customize it while in game? or did you just want to be able to make a house appear and disappear on que...I have an idea for how to do what I think you want to do, however I'm not sure exactly what you want to do. With a little more info I'll try to get something worked out.

Arcade Heroes

I'm basically free the rest day, if anyone would like help.

Box text help RPGvMaker 2003

I haven't done anything but map in 2k3 for some years now...but it seemed like there was some rule of characters like:

32 possible chars a line
28 letters a line

or something like that...

I think you may just have to keep track manually of how many/what type of characters you have used in your text window. you may also be able to change your font.

Help with Vx/Vx Ace?

I'd be less worried about why VX Ace looks crazy and more worried about where your start button ran off to. If your laptop screen max's out at 1366x768 and your image is 1366x768...and you haven't got a start button, you are gonna have a harder time navigating windows then you will using VX Ace. Are you sure you aren't running 1920x1080? I just ask because your windows start bar Icons imply your resolution is 1080p, if this isn't the case...Microsoft may be the people to contact, as I'm moderately sure RPG Maker does not mess with the GUI of the windows start bar.

I do have two ideas for a situation like this...

1) It could be a memory issue, try clearing up your memory. Have as few programs running in the background as possible. Image editing takes a lot of memory, so maybe try closing up all those paint programs and see if that helps, have you tried turning it off and back on again?

2) Windows XP Virtual Machine - If you are running Windows 7 then you can get the Windows XP VM direct from the Microsoft website. This is a great way to run programs like Creatoon that no longer work in windows &(at least not on the 64 bit version)
Windows XP Virtual Machine:

3) This has nothing to do with the problem at hand, however if you enjoy doing digital graphics, GIMP is a great program, and it's free...just something to think about.

[XP] How to code a 'Next Page' 'Previous Page' branching for reading images? Need to use loops or something...

OR

We could modify your original event, however rather then Loops in the 'previous page' section put Labels. That should clear up most of whats happening in the event. Below I have posted an image of what your event may look like after being modified to use Labels.

Arcade Heroes

That looks awesome! I'm excited to see how everybody's games turn out. This was a fun exercise in limitation for sure.

(speaking of...I'm not sure if VX Ace lite has limitations on animations, I used 121 and 122 I think...those may need to be adjusted in the final product)
