HALIBABICA'S PROFILE
I'm a multifaceted content creator with too many things to do. I have a Let's Play channel on YouTube and Rumble for indie games, DDLC mods, and SMBX episodes. I put my webcomics/reviews on ComicFury and my artwork on deviantArt.

Release Something! V - Discussion Thread
author=Max McGee link=topic=2730.msg51658#msg51658 date=1229902973Never! You may not see the worth of it, but I stand by my decision...
Halibabica: make a game that isn't about pokemans and I will play it. Promise. Unless it's about something even gayer, like kingdom hearts.
Release Something! V - Discussion Thread
author=Max McGee link=topic=2730.msg51624#msg51624 date=1229889355I'd apologize to you, but I get the feeling you didn't have my game in mind when you wrote it. Regardless, I counter by saying RMN isn't the only place I put up my games and having links outside of it is my own personal preference.
Everyone who made me go to a shitty and annoying third party hosting site instead of just putting your game up on the gracious and generous free hosting that RMN provides...SHAME ON YOU.
Wow, we're up to 17 releases so far!
Release Something! Day V for Vendetta [Dec 21st]
author=Max McGee link=topic=2540.msg51521#msg51521 date=1229837392
On the eve of this Release Something event, I must confess I am deeply worried that my release(s) will be lost amidst the tumult of the other releases. This is of course must be a worry for everyone. But the alternative to the massive noise and chaos of RS, of course, is no one releasing anything at all, so this is probably preferable.
I seriously doubt anything by you will get overlooked, Max. But, even so, they said the podcast will cover everything released, and I'll check through again like last time for the games that haven't gotten as much feedback. It'll be a huge success, just you wait.
Release Something! V - Release Thread
Oh, how quaint! It's
Pokemon Hunter 2
again! Didn't he release this once before?
What's different about this version?
This is Pokemon Hunter 2 after receiving much the same treatment as the original PH before it. I've painstakingly gone through the game and fixed everything I could think of, including:
- weird dialogue
- bad mapping
- inefficient data
- graphical inconsistencies
- rampant laziness
- areas of platform misunderstanding
- etc.
But...is there anything new?
At the moment, no. It's still the same game as it was, but it's vastly improved and the general quality of it is much higher. There IS something new I'll be adding later, but all the new content is only available if you beat the game with 100% completion. I seriously doubt anyone will have this problem before I get the final version out anyway, so enjoy what's there for now.
Well, I never even played the crappy version, what can I expect?
Lots of info about PH2 can be found on its game page here at RMN:

Although I worked hard on this to make it ready for RS!D, you may want to consider playing the first game instead (if you've never played this series before). PH2 is a direct sequel to the first game, and some parts of the plot may not make total sense to you. It's independent of the previous game anyway, but you'd be missing out on some of the characters' experiences and the important plot points are only summarized. The first game can be found on the official website right above the second.

Downloads?
The game's download is on the website already, and will be available at RMN shortly.

For the podcasters...
PH2 is a full game, and a lengthy one at that. So, in the interest of time, you won't want to beat it all the way through (unless you're having fun, of course!). All I ask is that you at least defeat the first boss before moving on with the other submissions. Go further if you like, but please go at least that far.
For the rest of you...
As I said before, I still have to add something else to PH2 for the final version. So, if you come across anything while playing that you think might be improved...TELL ME! I'd like to make this as good as I can before the final version is done. I have no qualms about updating finished games, but it's easier to fix things in the fixin' phase, y'know?

Release Something! Day V for Vendetta [Dec 21st]
Well, I managed to finish my something today. It's not the full version, but it's still fully updated compared to the one available now. All that's missing is bonus stuff for people who beat it with 100% completion. I doubt anyone will be able to do that before the final version is ready, though.
And now, I can finally relax...I put so much time into it this week...

Limitations
author=brandonabley link=topic=2668.msg50137#msg50137 date=1228924475I'm bad at mapping...that's it! No more maps! Here comes the next big text adventure AAARGH
If you aren't good at something and you aren't learning and it isn't catching on, just axe that feature from your game.
I'm limited to the point of incapability in the music/sound department. Luckily enough, I don't have to make my own music. I'm not that good at graphics/pixel art, and the bigger the picture, the more difficult it is for me to make. But, I'm getting better at that (at least, I think I am).
I can relate to this:
author=Rei- link=topic=2668.msg50093#msg50093 date=1228885526and this:
My limitations. Does perfectionism count? I pay too much attention to some insignificant things and thus makes my process much much slower.
author=VerifyedRasta link=topic=2668.msg50094#msg50094 date=1228885651
No, but I'm talking about extremely long cutscenes that have "Move event" commands and "Pan Screen" / "Screentone" / "Wait xxx frames" and many more. You must watch these scenes over and over to get them perfect.
I don't think my mapping is terrible, but I have a really hard time getting motivated to make them. I could stare at a blank map all day and never come up with anything at all.
Other than that, I'm not all that limited in my game-making endeavors. Except my eternal battle with public relations...
Release Something! Day V for Vendetta [Dec 21st]
I worked on my something for three days straight, and only took a break today because I had work. I won't have time for the final beta, but that won't stop me from releasing it! I can't wait to get my crushingly depressing beatdown honest criticism and feedback. Hooray for Release Something! Day!
