Release Something! Day V for Vendetta [Dec 21st]
author=VerifyedRasta link=topic=2540.msg49519#msg49519 date=1228591524Wow, that's lots of incentive to finish PH2's overhaul on time. I wouldn't ask you guys to play the whole thing, even if I do finish it by then (it's simply too long). But two weeks is a lot of time, and I can keep at it now that school's out...but I still have a long way to go. I may end up fixing PH4's unbearable intro and submitting that again after all. We'll have to see. I put four hours into PH2 today, I just have to keep it up!author=brandonabley link=topic=2540.msg49485#msg49485 date=1228582569
I just want to let you guys know that the RMNCast will discuss EVERY GAME THAT IS RELEASED
I really hope you guys give every game reviewed a fair chance.
Meaning:
1. No rushing
2. No early conclusions
3. No skipping (At least try to play it through the end, or in Suteki's case as far as possible :-\)
Asa's Tellahvision *SkyE reviewed!*
Meep, the moment of truth! Hopefully you won't be so disenchanted as with PH4's demo (which I now know needs some serious help). Good luck, and if you get stuck anywhere, remember: I'm a living strategy guide.

author=Max McGee link=topic=2194.msg48542#msg48542 date=1228248255I PMed you about this, but wasn't sure if you got it since RMN doesn't notify people too well. Check your messages, and please get back to me later.
I'll agree to 1 (oh god how long is it) and uh....trust me, 2 won't become an issue.
That said I will be thorough and fair and uh, yeah, give me a day or two to set up a pay-pal, I guess, unless you live in the continental US and feel like snail-mailing the money.

Okay, Max, I've reconsidered your offer, and I'd like to make a counter-one. I would pay you $20 to play my game and review it, BUT:
1. You'd have to play it all the way through, beginning to end (not necessarily in one sitting).
2. If your opinion of the game is turned around and you actually enjoy it, you pay me back $10.
So, how does that sound? You get $20, only have to pay back half if your opinion changes, and I get my review. Fair enough?

Challenging the Standards
Whenever I come to issues like this, I always have to consider three things.
1. Coherency - how does this subject tie into the world, and if it doesn't, what must be done to make it do so?
2. Game balance - how does this affect the way the game plays? Is it integral for the game to work right? Can it function better in a different way?
3. Payoff - is this actually worth changing? How much effort needs to be put forward to make this work, and will it make a big enough difference to warrant it?
As far as money drops by monsters goes, it doesn't really bother me how it's done. I don't care if creatures that would never own a dime drop cash for the heroes, because it's more an aspect of gameplay than coherency (to me, at least). You can explain it like Clest did and make it coherent with the world, and that's just fine and dandy. But, it's not something that would make or break a game for me.
I draw my own lines of coherency where I like, as there are a lot of things I don't like about other RPGs. For example, I don't like having treasure chests lying around everywhere. That makes no sense to me. But then, I turn around and have monsters drop all the equipment you could ever hope for and hide special skill books around every corner instead. Does it make sense? Not in the least. But I know what I like and what I don't, and I divide the things that don't make coherent sense into what should be questioned and what should be accepted as part of the game.
The reason I don't make a big deal out of stuff like this is my third consideration up there: payoff. If something is so trivial that it makes almost no difference at all (like monsters dropping money), then I don't bother changing it. It all depends on the subject of what's being changed. A better example might be a CMS. I always use the DBS in my RPGs because CMS's are hard to script for and would serve virtually the same purpose (and probably be broken in a few places). So, I don't bother.
Just my lengthy two-cents...

Edited, but left up for the record. ;)

Okay, Max/Legion/WHOEVERYOUARE, I asked politely once before and you politely turned me down, but I'm back asking again because I don't learn fast I'm determined.
I've read the reviews you've done so far, and you do a fair and honest job with them. You present your analyses with flavor, but never go over the top and outright insult the games. This is the kind of feedback I'm always looking for.
So, I'm asking you to PLEASE put aside your known prejudice against Pokemon and give Pokemon Hunter a try. I'm aware this might be painful for you, so I'm willing to negotiate a little here. Because even though this is technically a Pokemon game, it's absolutely nothing like the commercial Pokemon games. It's just a normal RPG that happens to have Pokemon in it. I don't know what it is about Pokemon that makes you hate it so much, but my game is related in name only. If the very sight of the buggers sends you into a bloodthirsty rage, then I'd be happy to swap out the Pokemon sprites for normal RPG monsters (just for you!).
I hope you'll reconsider, but if your answer's still no, then fine. Also, it'd be the first one I'd be asking you to play. The others are not ready yet...
