Understanding Fun Game Design: Case Study
Great article man.
However you forgot to mention that Mega Man games have backwards difficulty curves! This is one of the design decisions homebrew makers should not emulate.

[FULL GAME]U.S.G. ~A New Beginning ~
Oh and is there a font I could be missing? Some text doesn't seem to be showing up.
EDIT: Oh wow I installed the font the game makes a lot more sense now.
EDIT: I love this game so much.

The "Stuff you should check out!" Corner
It would be best if this feature were kept concise. The old GW had lots of features added on and eventually it was just a stupid mess. If we can divert everyone's attention to just a handful of important pieces of content at a time, we can ensure a high ratio of members actually checking it out. If it's a convoluted pile with way too much stuff to keep track of, very few people will bother digging in.
Worst video games you've played this year

An insatiable urge to play something really bad?
Well at least it didn't star a clitched main character who was some spikey-haired cartoon character who always fought the bad guys gosh.
What's your opinion on "cliched" games?

I wish I could understand this logic that an RPG has to have a masterpiece of a story to be worth anything. It's just not true.
Especially because most of the titles held up as STORY-TELLING ART FORM are actually pretty basic and would barely pass as pulp fiction novels anyway. Whenever I read a brilliant contemporary novel like James Lee Burke I just wonder Jesus Christ can't they just hire this guy to write a video game??? Although I guess they hired a celebrated novelist to write both Gears of War and Lost Odyssey and well look how those turned out.
The "Here's an idea" thread

But seriously.
Well I love a lot of Western RPGs but you really have to admit that even the best ones are sort of boring and are only fun because of the thrill of exploration. There's really no focus whatsoever to the actual game design in most of them (especially Elder Scrolls) so you're left to wander around and find your own fun. The more linear ones like Neverwinter Nights are always kind of bland and uninspired and even though D&D rules rock so you can have a lot of fun levelling up and slaying orcs you really can't compare the design of dungeons in Oblivion or Mass Effect to Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest.
