How important are: PLOT TWISTS?

author=CashmereCat
The more plot twists, the better. Plot twists, make the story. Without plot twists, your story is a granny story. Sorry, but it's the truth.

Oh, bullshit. Movies like A New Hope, Titanic, ET, Jaws and games like Ocarina of Time and Final Fantasy VI, have little-to-no plot twits and there all coincided to have good stories.

- I just realized that some npcs don't have their effect graphics set. I saw it with your shy guys, who revert to the red variety when they die. As this is something pretty easy to fix, it won't be a deal-breaker.

Oh, right I keep forgetting to do that. I'll have that fixed.

Sorry I haven't been doing much lately, stuff came up and I've been occupied. I'll try and get something done this week, though I also have more pressing projects to get to as well.

How important are: PLOT TWISTS?

I honestly don’t think plot twists are necessary or important at all. Sure they can make the story more interesting, but they aren’t essential. A good, well written, well told story can still be good even if the eventual outcome is telegraphed miles away perched atop a radio power with a huge banner that reads “this is precisely what you are expecting”. Things don’t have to go exactly the way the hero’s expect them to, but not having a big huge supplies it completely changes the dynamics of the story isn’t going to hurt the quality of the story.

In fact one of the worst things you can do is have a twist for absolutely no other reason than to have a twist. If you are going to have a twist though, probably the best thing to do is have one huge twist and have the story build up to it.

Pokémon RMN Version

I don't Know I like Orochii's Bassacure.

Castles Masterpiece Set 2

I'll get back into it shortly.

Although maybe we could use an extension to drum up more levels.

Penalties for leveling up

I found the technical terms for, this sort of behavior in games. Parabolic Power Curve and Empty Levels. Once again TV Tropes explains it all.

Penalties for leveling up

author=NebelSoft
as for "games that penalize your fighting capability as you gain XP", yeah i could imagine that exists... i mean many games penalize your fighting capability as you equip stronger weapons, because the weapons are too heavy / too big / etc ^^; so they make the character slower or carry less other equipment...

That's not exactly the same thing though. Gear that slows you down or gives you less space to carry things can be worked around, with, skill timing or managing you equipment in such a way you don't need that extra inventory space. And even then you could just not use that weapon.

There's not much you can do when the game makes things harder by doing the thing the game expected to do to gain your power. Except for maybe not level up, and that takes away a lot of the fun. Who wants to spend all game running away from things. It's counter-productive.

So I started work on a industrial zone level. it sucks so far and is pretty easy - I am out of practice. Anywho, I have no fucking clue was "INDUSTRIAL AZTEC WITH PIPES" is supposed to look like, so I just downloaded AlexanderXCIII's level and mimic'd the style. I even got some other Mr. Gimmick! soundtrack songs.

Hopefully I will have a draft up tonight.

Screw the Industrial Aztec with pipes. When I get round to making my Industrial level I'm setting it in space.

Accepting Criticism

author=bulmabriefs144
I don't wanna talk about how many times I had to do/redo font colors because they got criticized only to realize that although they looked fine to my eyes, the contrast wasn't sharp enough for the people looking at the screenshot. Each time I redid the text took about 2 hours, and I must've had to do this close to 6 times before I was like "look, you don't like it? I'll give you 8 systems to choose from and a menu to pick four". I stuck with the system I liked, and left it at that.

Seriously people are criticizing you over font. Admittedly, I can see certain colors being hard to read and a strain on the eyes. And having the text being completely illegible is a legitimate problem.

There has to be a point though, where a developer put's there foot down and say "screw it" and just flat out ignore certain criticizes. Mainly those that deal with things so minor that there not worth focusing on. Especially when there are legitimate criticisms you could be dealing with instead.

Fey

You know at one point I'm, going to have to play this game and re-revue it.
