The Looming Spire -- Demo Coming Soon!

author=Dyhalto
Wooo! A demo of this has been a looooong time coming.
Is this the exact same game you've been working on since 2010, or has it undergone major changes along the way?

Is this the same game from 2010... A great question.

I wanna say, at its core, it's the same game: custom everything, elemental puzzles, on-map combat, massive singular interweaving dungeon game-world. Over the years, layers and layers of refinement and new mechanics/features have been added, not to mention just way way more content. I won't say its unrecognizable, because it definitely is -- the first dungeon's maps are still there, for example -- but there's just a lot more... game to the game now. I think the initial prototype of this game from 2010 had like, 10 maps? We're at around ~350 now and counting. Battle system completely redone three times over now, I think I'm on version 4 or 5 of the custom menu, puzzle mechanics completely redone and added tons of new ideas, have added around 70 monsters, multiple weapons, new spell upgrade mechanics, more items/relics, updated status effects, UI improvements, etc.

Resurrect the Dying

I've had this project on a harddrive for 11 years at this point.

Spent more years not working on it than working on it at this point but still.

Man, I remember ONE of these you had sent me. Wonder if I can still find it somewhere.

Glad to see the progress.

Dude, if you can find it, I would be THRILLED to see it.

Ascension Devlog - 1 - "Oops I lied"

Looks rad! I like the direction this is going.

Fun game! Very dark, some good spooks. Beat it last night. The very last scene made me feel a bunch of feelings.

I ran into one confusing bug:
When going through the "warm plate" maze after lighting the four flames, I must've gotten a little lost, because at one point I came to the end of an empty hallway. I pressed 'z' to try and see if something was there, and it warped me to a new hallway with a door; when I went through, it took me outside in the village with demons everywhere, except it was bright outside and the background music was playing. It was a little jarring, I don't know what was supposed to happen. I went back in the house and then did the maze again and found the "correct" way through but yeah.

Good times were had!

today is my birthday

happy birthday!!

2021 - An Announcement

I don't know if posting updates online once in awhile or not helps with motivation, sometimes it gives a momentum boost and other times it can feel like an obligation to just post something. So idk probably depends on the personality/development style.

Yo Darken! Yeah I'm not sure where I fall on that spectrum. I really do enjoy providing updates in blog form. Making gifs, explaining game mechanics, deep-diving into stuff, that all feels great. But it also does feel like maybe it takes something away from the game itself, for me. Like I'm getting away with showing off the game without having actually released it. You understand what I mean, I'm sure. Hard to strike a balance, so I'm trying to stay away from the small updates, and wait until I have something big to show.

(But I of course am going to check this one blog post and its replies for the next week or two, because!!! I have a problem, maybe!!)

Maybe the captcha is omitted for users with >100 makerscore or something?
