NESFREAK64'S PROFILE

Hi, my name is Steve. I've been lurking here for quite a while. I've tried my hand at RPG making before, starting on the Playstation, and ending last with RPG Maker 2k3. Who knows, maybe I'll try again sometime?

Eternal – Return of the Void

Well...Despite all the nitpicking and what not, I've got to say I like the sound of this all so far!

I like the way you've described the story in the hero's words...I'm hoping there will be a lot more, you make it sound interesting :).

Also, RTP or not, I like the graphics style you've chosen. It sets it apart from all the SNES lookalikes around here. And yes people, it's going to look pixelated, it's on RM2k3!

Anyways, subscribed. Can't wait to see what you pull out here, I'm hoping to give it a thumbs up, myself.

Dragon Quest: Legacy of the Lost

Alrighty, so I'm done! I put about 7 hours into the demo, very very impressive! It almost feels like a love letter to Dragon Warrior 7 fans, which I'm most definitely one of. One quick question, then I'll get into the spoilerriffic stuff.

Are the demo saves going to be compatible with future demos and possibly the main game? If not, that's fine, can't wait to play more!

Anyways, ok, so I wanted to list a few things. None of them really break the game, nor do they make it too difficult, just some things I think you ought to know.

A: In the castle of Rhemage, you can walk onto the tapestries, and then into the backdrop of the castle. It doesn't net you anything special, nor can you break the game, but I think you should know.

B: The dancevegi's odd dance can, and will completely drain your characters of MP in the Rhemage of the past. It's not THAT big a deal, especially with the town nearby, but it did make it difficult.

C: Cardial. Just out of curiosity, was it inspired by the Hamelia area in Dragon Warrior VII? I've got to be honest, that was probably the most memorable area in DW7 to me, since I spent at least 10 hours griiiiinding there, haha. Gracos (as well as Gracos V) were SUPPOSED to be hard bosses...The boss of Cardial was pretty tough though!

D: Speaking of Cardial, I found it really difficult to grind there, namely because the heal slimes were making the battles last forever. Which brings me to my next point...

E: When everyone is holed up in the tower, you can't buy the new weapons or armor that were available in Cardial before.

F: Are you considering adding save points within other areas of the game? Or are you going to stay with the 8 bit feel?

G: Last but not least, when you visit Cardial in the future/present time, going into the tavern will cause you to go back to the past Cardial.

Whew, anyways, sorry for all the whining. I loved this so far, and I LOVE the fact that you used the DW7 music, it really fits, even with the 8 bit feel. Love it so far, can't wait to play more in the future!

Dragon Quest: Legacy of the Lost

This looks awesome, I've got to say. Dragon Warrior VII is my favorite of the DQ/DW games (though the NES IV comes in close!)

I like the 8 bit style, too, to be honest, I've always loved the DQ/DW NES style.

Couple of questions though...Just out of curiosity

A: Are you using the older Enix US spell/enemy names? Or the modern ones? I know it's a really minor detail, but I'm just curious. I'm still sort of getting used to them...Still muchly prefer the older ones.

B: Are you planning this to be HUGE in length like 7? Once again, just wondering, but from the sounds of things, you are!

Anyways, sounds amazing so far! I'm going to dig into the demo very soon! Also, subbed!

Wild Kings

So, is this still alive? I'm half way through chapter 1, great game so far! Like the sense of humor, I'm surprised you haven't been lambasted for it.

Weird Dreams

Wait, I'm guessing the game size rise was due to the inclusion of the RTP? I'm stupid.

Anyways, similar to psy_wombat's let's try, I made it to the first boss fight...Except that I had grinded my way to level 22, and I still was no match for him. That, and my healing spells healed less then the amount of damage he did.

Anyways, intriguing so far. I like the writing, and the ideas, especially with the way the main character did the change, alongside the way she changes back to her normal self when she enters a house. If/when I finish it, I'll write a proper review...At the moment, I don't feel like grinding to beat the first boss.

Weird Dreams

Not that it matters, really, but how did the game size ballon from 1.1 MBs to 42?

Just wondering. Anyways, going to take the full plunge soon.

Weird Dreams

So I played through what I think is the end of the demo (ends at the signs that say the developer hasn't implemented those areas, right?). Couple things.

A: I like the dialogue. It's got a really kind of snitty quality to it, if that's one way I can put it. Not that there's much to it so far (it's very short!), but it's definitely fun.

B: I actually got killed my first time through, haha. Granted, that was my fault for not using the provided healing spot, or the spells I had, but the enemies remind me of Matsumori Stories, where they'll be STRONG at first and then nearly pitifully easy later. The experience curve is probably fine though. As with Matsumori Stories, I appreciate the way you handle running into battles.

C: I'm actually looking forward to playing this when you're done! Once again, your skills for writing show pretty well, and I can't wait to see where the story goes.

One of theses days/games, I'll get a comment that reads something to the effect of, "New Marrend game!? Subscribed!"

But, clearly, this is neither the day, nor the game.

I actually didn't notice this was one of your's, until after I had read the info on the game. All the more reason to play it, if that helps! I kind of wish RMN had a "subscribe to developer" option, there's a number of people here I'd like to follow.

Weird Dreams

Well...I'll be honest, I can't wait to check this out! Haven't downloaded yet, but from the sounds of things, I'll be wanting to! I like the sound of the concept.

Good luck on the contest!

Crystalis: Sonata of the Far-Away Sky

So I subbed to this, and decided to play through Crystalis again on a whim!

Couple things.

A: Are you going to make certain enemies immune to each sword? They took that out of the infamous GBC version, and even though it gets frustrating to switch swords a lot, it adds a lot to the game.

B: Are you going to expand on certain aspects of the storyline?

C: Are the original hero and/or Mesia going to make an appearance?

D: Are you planning on making some of the graphics based on the NES originals (town people, monsters, stuff like that?) I love the style you've got so far, and I'll admit, I'm just curious, but I do consider Crystalis to have some of the best RPG graphics on the NES.

Anyways, I can't wait to play! Crystalis is definitely one of my favorite ARPGs, and this looks great so far!

Super Doki Doki World

Great work so far, and I'll be honest, a bit more difficult then Mario vs The Moon Base, at least compared with the first twelve levels. It reminds me that I have a lot of work to do on my own Mario game!

I've also got to say, it's interesting seeing enemies that aren't in SMBX to begin with, such as the chucks in stage one, and the boss of 1-6. The levels are nice and varied too!

When you fight Birdo in the first world though, grabbing the crystal may make you die, without any penalty, but I thought you should know. There's also a section of level (can't remember which offhand) where you leave a underwater part of a level and emerge from a pipe in a pool with no water effect.

I'll admit though, doing water in non underwater sections of levels in SMBX can be tedious.

Anyways, awesome work so far, can't wait to play more!
