The Last King of Hyrule

Hyrule Field -> Whatever order the player wants to do the other six zones in -> Dark World

I would assume that the temples will naturally be a little harder than the progression levels.

In other words, difficulty will be whatever. Got it.

The Last King of Hyrule

So what's the intended order of these zones, in terms of difficulty?

I can see what you're getting at, but I think Soli's teams idea would help make that a non-issue. If each judge had, say, two worlds to look after, they wouldn't become overburdened with mass level submission. I know there are some overzealous chumps out there (*coughDavenportcough*), but even if they submitted to the max, each judge would only have to look at two of their levels. This team thing is sounding better to me already...

I can go for that.

By the way, I hate the idea of putting Metroid stuff in this game. I can live with it, but let it be known that I'm against it.

Also, what style are we using? SMB3? SMW? Having a consistent style would really make this feel like a game and not just a collection of levels. BTW, if we don't pick a style, I'm going to make all my levels look so out of place that no one will be able to give this game a good rating.

So when can I start making levels?

It's very rare that someone gets it right the first time, as well, so I kind of think this system would only needlessly slow things down for the participants. Plus, I don't really see anything wrong with how submissions were handled in the past. It's not like the people who made shit levels got their crap in anyway.

Slowing things down for the participants will help out the judges a lot. We're the ones who have to play all this crap over and over again. And with a ton of participants submitting levels, it's hard to keep track of which ones have been updated since you last played them. Plus there are quite a few people who seem to value quantity over quality and want to get as any levels in the game as possible. Even if they don't make the cut, we still have to spend time testing them. Forcing participants to focus on one level at a time should improve quality of design and give judges time to focus on providing in-depth feedback.

Evil Plans

I have a suggestion regarding level submissions. How about we only allow one submission per participant at a time? That would force people to make GOOD levels from the start instead of churning out a level a day and waiting til the last week to make them any good. Once a level is approved, the participant can make another submission.

Evil Plans

I call boss levels for Worlds 1-8.

The Last King of Hyrule

So I want to make some levels, but I have no idea how difficult I should make them. What's the geography of this game supposed to look like?

Judging Judges

For a while I was thinking about abstaining, but I like working with you guys. I'll give this judge thing another go. This time I'll put more effort into providing feedback.

The Last King of Hyrule

Instead of Sheik, how about we resprite Toad as Tingle?

I'm gonna make a desert progression level.

I think I like the idea of the King having Link gather all the Triforce pieces but then

SPOILER WARNING

it was GANON In disguise whoa super special awesome plot twist!

I like this idea. How about the king is POSSESSED by Ganon's spirit, and he tells Link to gather the Triforce pieces because only the Triforce can unseal the dungeon where Zelda is held captive. But it turns out the dungeon is actually where Ganon's body is sealed away, and as jackalotrun suggested, Zelda was locked in Hyrule Castle the whole time. This gives Link a reason to collect the Triforce pieces and explains why Ganon can't just do it himself and isn't actively trying to stop Link.
