I like Patrick because he's practically on his deathbed and nothing ever seems to go right, but he still toughens up, takes it in stride as best he can manage, and continue to aid those in need.
Yes, and that's what I love about him as well. This is just one of the rarer moments in the game where he does break down. Can't be all that tough all the time, you know. :)
Character driven vs. Story-driven
I'm glad you guys liked the art. Pretty much my first expression after looking at the finished piece was, "Holy crap, this is cute!" ^^
So character-driven it is. It was always one of my preferred method of telling stories, I just wanted your guys opinions, so thank you. :) And none of the extra characters, such as Cillian, Siglud and Finn, are there just because they are i.o.w 'Tag-along Kids'. They all have a role to play. I'm also thinking of limiting the number of total playable characters, so all of them get an equal amount of screen time. Even though Laine and Patrick are my protagonists, I don't want them to hog the spotlight.

A Squishy Wizard that uses a BFS and is a Mighty Glacier on top of it? Hell yes!! We should start breaking up these RPG stereotypes.

Custom art update
Yes, I noticed that as well! It's odd, you know. I leave my art for a few weeks and when I come back, my new portraits always ended up looking better than my previous attempts. Let's hope I don't get stuck in a vicious cycle of redrawing things. ><
As for the next update, we'll see how it goes. It's pushing 4-5 hours in gameplay length, so it's looking good so far. I'll probably start calling for beta-testers as well ( I already have you and Ron in mind ^^ ).

I am a lot happier with their portraits now, so hopefully I won't be redrawing anything anytime soon. ^^

I commented on this at rpgmakervx.net, but yes. Probably the most beautiful piece of fan-art I've seen done for a RPGMaker game. Relic needs more love!
