So I completely hate puzzles.
I have to agree with Feld here. There are way more interesting ways to make a dungeon interesting.
"Dungeon-Wide Hazards" are probably my favorite. This is probably best explained by Super Metroid. There were areas that were completely unnavigable without certain equipment. This posed an interesting challenge, although I think that those areas being completely unnavigable was a mistake. But it illustrates my point. Intense heat in Norfair required you to have the Varia Suit to compensate for the temperature. You took consistent and rapid damage otherwise. Had the damage been lower, or had you limited the ability to move/fight/use abilities as a result of it, you could have posed a more threatening hazard. The same goes for Maridia, entirely water area that you had limited movement and maneuverability. Although you were still able to progress through it with limited success.
Hazards like these pose a more interesting threat, than a bunch of switches that are far enough apart that you are going to run into random encounters so you need to pick them in the right order to avoid the mind-numbingly boring random encounters as best possible.

So I completely hate puzzles.
Puzzles absolutely must fit with gameplay properly. I am really stinkin' tired of amateur RM* games having puzzles like "Activate the Pressure Valves" or "Hit the switches in order" bullshit in the middle of an arbitrary cave.
Other than that, most puzzles are mind-numbingly boring. Agreed.

I guess I should say "I'm Back"?
Sort of just re-found this place, and remembered how awesome the discussion is here versus other forums.
I was born in 1986, in England. Moved to Canada when I was 4, and have lived in the Toronto area ever since. My favorite food is yet to be decided, as I seriously haven't eaten that much different foods in my lifetime. Although I really love home-made Stir Fry. My favorite beverage is chocolate milk, followed closely by Guinness. Favorite movies/tv/etc change too often to pick anything. I am currently watching House and Lost. Favorite game series, in order, are Metroid, Megaman, Fallout, and Warcraft/Star Craft/Diablo. Along with a few outlying games from the Mana series (Secret of Mana and SD3), Final Fantasy IV, VI, X-2, XII, and the Crystal Chronicles games. As well as plenty of other games.
I don't really make RPG Maker games anymore; but I do still play many games, RPG and otherwise, and I am still designing them.
I've been in the RM* community for a bazillion years. I've never completed a real game (contests aside,) and have never released a game demo that was longer than 30 minutes. Although, I have made some good games. I just don't release them and definitely never finish them.
I was majoring in college in Computer Science and System's Administration, but I dropped out (got kicked out) due to a series of bad semesters. Currently, I am a chemical lawn technician for a lawn-care company but I think I am going to go back to school for Landscaping and Business, possibly even Architecture (I've been accepted twice for Architecture and Drafting, so I don't think that is going to be a huge issue.)
I own a Wii, have an X-Box 360 in my house, and play PS3 with friends. I also own a light pink Nintendo DS Lite. Both my DS and Wii are boring the crap out of me at the moment. I think I accidentally picked up a like for the 360 Shooter games, like Gears of War and Call of Duty. Luckily, I can play those on my PC when I don't have access to the 360.
I also play World of Warcraft, with several characters spread across several servers. I have an 80 Protection Paladin with raid gear on Korgath (Horde-Side), I have a 70 shaman on the same server, and I have a 70 mage/hunter combo alliance side on Alterac Mountains. I am an avid MMORPG fan, and have played almost every MMO that has been released in North America.
Other than that, I am going to be lurking around here. I've set it up in my Firefox bookmark toolbar which means I am going to be clicking it at least three times a day. Mostly just going to comment on people's work, and join in with game discussion. You probably won't find me in the Game Creation area (for however long it lasts until RMN3) very much unless to comment on a screenshot or something.

I really don't want to post a video of every cool addition to Asc, and since it doesn't include any gameplay mechanics either, and whatnot.
But but, I just couldn't prevent myself showing off the intro sequence. :((
So yeah, this is how the game begins. After the rooftops you see some professor guy waking up in his room and then you gain control of the character, and you can head off to the city.
The elevator in the end is just a plus. Wanted to show the elevator, too... lol. :(
This is very good atmospherically, but suffers from a lack of perspective. As the buildings are raising up (I assume this is due to your view moving down to the city), the background should be panning upwards, and the vehicles should be moving upwards as well, slightly slower than the background is. As it currently stands, it simply looks like these giant monolithic skyscrapers are erupting from the ground.
Best DS Games
Pokemon games need to adopt a real-time engine, even if its still menu based.
I know more games that I hate for DS than I actually like, but to name a few that really hit home:
Rune Factory 1 and 2
Lock's Quest
any of the Advanced Wars
Legacy of Ys: Books I & II
Mega Man ZX / Advent
Castlevania Order of Ecclesia
Lego Star Wars the Complete Saga
Final Fantasy 4DS
Games to Avoid:
From the Abyss
Heroes/Children of Mana
Anything based off a movie (excluding Lego Star Wars)
Anything ported from another system
Pokemon
Anything by UbiSoft that starts with "Imagine:"
Pretty much anything that isn't instantly recognizable or recommended by a reputable gamer.
Speaking of which, Lock's Quest is actually really good. Play it.

RmXP: 1.2 million downloads; RmVX: 95,000 downloads
VX was a step in the wrong direction in the one way that makes RPG Maker so popular, the ease of use with the Mapping/Event engine.
Making the map system MORE automated, with MORE limitations, was an abysmal failure. Its practically impossible to work with it, if you are trying to make anything even remotely complicated. I found myself using RMXP graphics as panoramas simply to make it usable.
It did improve greatly on the scripting engine, which is why when Dargor over at rmxp.org released the ability to use RGSS2 in RMXP, I was all over that.

I have no idea what that sentence was meant to mean... Phrased like a question, but punctuated like a statement, yet neither makes sense.

I found this great website with a lot of campaigns and adventures we can choose from
http://www.dndadventure.com/
A Dungeons Generator for Maps
http://www.aarg.net/~minam/dungeon.cgi
A DataBase of All Spells and Monsters
http://ddo.mmodb.com/
This stuff is all great, except it caters to D&D 3.5 Edition which I don't think is what Shadowtext wants to play (and personally I don't either)
The problem with 3.5e that I have is that after the years, there is just -so- much. The core books (PHB, DMG, and MM) are about 5% of the entire available 3.5e content. From additional races, monsters, classes, prestige classes, gods, divinities, items, magic systems, etc. so much that the game has become bloated, and a constant "Let me check the rulebook because nobody at the table is familiar with any of the rules I use." kind of game.

Shadowtext, I would like to be a part of this. Preferably as a player as I am already DMing a small test campaign with friends.
For the record, MapTool is amazing. Unfortunately, it requires external graphics to make decent maps. Fortunately, RPG Maker graphics can be ported to it really simply :> I've been using RMVX to make maps, exporting them as images (through a script) and loading them into MapTool for campaigns.
I think MapTool has built in voice-chat, too.
I am pretty familiar with the way 4thEdition works, and would be happy to help anyone having issues with it.
Also, Shadowtext, in my experience, I have found Sunday afternoons (noon-5ish) is usually the globally accepted best time for a campaign.
The one thing about D&D I always hated was leaving a session and having to wait a week to play again though :D I am all about instant gratification lol.

Iron Man
Because Ironman is the first Marvel movie that was written, produced, etc. entirely by Marvel with no outside intervention, it was as good as I could expect it to be. That is, really fucking good.
I'm also very glad that they are making more. With the new Hulk movie, the Avengers movie, and everything in between. It's going to be a really good thing for the movie industry. Also, Ironman 2 is apparently scheduled for 2010.
