Really though, $14 trillion in debt isn't really that much when you realize that 2/3rds of it is owned by the U.S. itself. China owns about $1 trillion dollars of the rest, which is a large portion percent-wise but not terribly threatening. We borrow money at ~0.2% interest, which means we'll pay them back $1 trillion and change. We're likely to pay them back when the economy turns around, unemployment goes down, and salaries go up. Until then, running a deficit allows us to pay for higher safety nets (unemployment comp, Medicare, Medicaid, etc.) So we're not in a bad place at all :) we just got to be careful and turn things around.
Damn, I was in a ranty mood last night

That's a definite improvement. You still get the formal/fanciful feeling of the first font without the reading comprehension issues :)

It definitely adds to the atmosphere that I *think* you're going for. I haven't played the game, I just know that usually overly-curly fonts are neat but make reading difficult.
Presidential elections
Obama has made mistakes and just as much as anyone needs to be held accountable. Drone strike casualties and the incident in Benghazi are recent, glaring examples.
For that matter, there is a lot of fantastic stuff that Bush doesn't get credit for. He promoted alternative energy with massive grants to research institutions (one of which I was a part of).
People will always ignore the cons of their own candidates to promote him - that's the problem with the whole idea of politics. These two parties will sit there and try their damnedest to twist their candidates into the most "electable" suit. And so many of us sit there and make a sport of it, arguing about meaningless shit like who smoked weed in high school, who's tax records or birth certificate wasn't shown, or what-the-fuck-ever. Look at the candidates, figure out what side they fall on on the issues in relation to you, and vote. It's simple.
Rant aside, neither Romney's nor Obama's plans to address the deficit were terribly drastic - they were beneficial but only moderately so. Neither is likely to fail either, since our country has had nearly identical policies before and both led to financial growth, during the early 90's, when our fair nation was rolling in cash. Economically, as long as our country still represents a powerful, free nation, other countries will invest in us.
EDIT: this started as a response to harmonic but got sidetracked somewhere

I don't have to go into detail to post here. It's probably preferred but what'cha gonna do? If I want to call it awful, I will, and the author will know that someone doesn't like the "style".
The problem with that is it's useless and slightly inflammatory; we're on a gamedev-centered board, and everyone is trying to learn, or should be. It's just as useless to say "oh that's great" without any reason - there are plenty of fans/haters to cover the basic platitudes. Everyone here has things to learn and posting negatively with no constructive or even useful information serves no purpose.
@Sana: The UI boxes look great, I like the purple-on-purple. I'm not a fan of the cursive-esque font, especially in games with lots of dialogue. It makes text hard to read and if there's a lot of reading it's much too frustrating. The font is a touch small as well, which adds to that.

Hey guys, I hate to break it to you, but Orson Scott Card thinks we're Nazis: http://www.ornery.org/essays/warwatch/2012-11-08-1.html
And I would love to see more than a two-party system, but as that seems unlikely, I'd at least love to see the Republicans grow out of the Stone Age. I would be much more likely to vote for a Republican candidate that wasn't so gung-ho about treating people like dogshit

Thanks! I decided on cartoony and simple because I honestly didn't have the time or skill to attempt something harder... and I prefer stylized art anyway.
Yup, it's for the phone; although a web build exists, the controls feel much better on a phone.
@dragonheartman: I am suddenly reminded how much I like parallaxing fog effects. I can see you've really grabbed the SNES-level art style and gotten every ounce of detail out of your space. Although the level-up is covering your little dude's face :P

At the end of the day, at least that's a few less lives lost to ancient ideals. Pretty excited about it.
EDIT: Sorry, I'm not trying to be depressing, there's just a lot more to be done. This is merely a first step! I am hesitantly excited :D

Working on the title screen; I went with the graffiti-style title because trying to put it anywhere else made the screen feel too busy. I think I want to end up with something like this, but I'm not 100% sure yet.
(The bottom part scrolls along like a stock-ticker, picking random quotes about octopuses, so it's always moving)
