Set a gamedev goal for today.

Finish up my damn contracts so I can get out of this mess and start working on fun stuff again :P

Lantern

Nope! And "randomized survival horror via multiplayer" is kind of what I was going for. Instead of memorizing when bad guys are going to pop out and attack you, you have to practice the skills to hide and find them first.

I've honestly never played a traditional horror game.

RPG settings

My next RPG will take place entirely inside a tavern. How's that for setting?

I really hope you're not kidding because that sounds fantastic.

What is up with all the NAMES people come up with for their games?

The unfortunate part of today's media overload is that most things get about 3 seconds of review before they're either chosen or skipped... and your game's main pic and title make or break that first impression.

This is just if I'm skimming though. If your game came highly recommended or I otherwise found interest in it, that plays a huge part too - and then the title is negligible.

It's probably not fair but it's true :P

Commercial games are not allowed on RMN

Hey @kentona bro real quick two questions:

1) If I submit a game here, do you have beef with me also submitting a web version to Kongregate for cold, hard advertising cash? It's a 7-day FPS project that I'm expanding on.

2) How hard did you hack to get that beautifully symmetric Makerscore?

[DELETED]

You are doing an awful job of enticing people to work for you. Unless you're supplying a paycheck, you are asking for charity. I'd suggest not being a dick about it next time.

I'm pretty proud of the dialogue in this game; however, I only had a couple weeks to work on it and work got in the way, so it got shelved. I should look around for an old copy of it.

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

I wrote a script that picks names randomly out of a hat and, if you try to host, adds on a randomly generated server name :D I add to the list whenever I need a break from coding or I think of a good one.

(if you think of a good one I can add it for you, lol)

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

@thatbennyguy: O.o what made you decide on 2500 maps? Are you gonna playtest all those?

I'm working on a small multiplayer first-person shooter. It started as a project for 7-Day FPS, but I got sick so I decided to work on it afterwards. Here's some pics!

I needed some networking/multiplayer programming experience anyway, so this project is my chance to practice it!

The game is tentatively named "Lantern" and it's a multiplayer FPS based around light-and-dark and audio mechanics. The players fight in an unlit haunted house, and all they have is a flashlight and a pistol. Players can find (and kill) other players by looking for their silhouettes, using the flashlight, or listening for audio clues. Using the flashlight or the pistol can give away your position though, so you have to be clever. There's also a lot of objects to hide behind - couches, pillars, tables, crates - like an actual abandoned house would have.

It's a lot of fun to work on and it's coming along really well :D Content-wise, I want to polish some things and add another floor to the house, but then it's just bug-checking left!

Going back to old school length RPGs
