Comic-book style cutscenes?
Since I have an artist on my team that enjoys comic-like stuff, we're doing this with our next project too (in VXAce.)
I was inspired by the same thing; when I recently replayed Phantasy Star IV. : )

Out of interest.. I'm wondering about how the battlers were made. They don't look like pixel art so I'm guessing perhaps they were painted rather than pixelled?
They're hand drawn, then chopped into pieces. Then for each new pose the pose is drawn on top the default one, once that sketch looks good we arrange the pieces on it and mesh them with the sketch, then color.
It's not quite as much work as it sounds, but more than just several hours go into even the easy ones. : )

Ah, I see! That sprite is kind of funny, it just looks so over-the-top. I just find the idea of Flynn purposefully arranging himself so formally in his last moments of consciousness (or making a spell for that purpose) inexplicably hilarious. :p As is the flower that seems to come out of nowhere.
Yes, it's definitely the best unconscious graphic so far.

RMVXAce to be released March 15 (pre-order is available)
Pre-order is up, you get $15 off and you get it on the 14th instead of 15th (they tell you after you've made the order) and a couple other bonuses:
http://preorder.rpgmakerweb.com/ace/
1. More Music ("remastered" from other, odd, versions)
2. More Graphics ("remastered" from the DS version)
3. Early access to their official forums which aren't as cool as RMN
2 out of 3's not bad!

Glad some enjoyed the banter, trying to find ways to make the blogs more fun since just spouting a bunch of technical jargon hasn't worked well (it's boring to read!) so we've added custom art and humor. : )

I loved this game, and am planning to do a review on it soon. I was absolutely crushed when I found out it ended so soon, but was comforted by your comments on continuing it.
It is a true gem, and I enjoyed every minute. I reccomended it to my friends and will continue to follow this game throughout its updates. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The version you played was like a pilot game. The story is being reworked (specifics, but the same overall plot,) pacing of the levels and skill gains, and new features and feedback on the old are implemented.
The blog should be updated fairly regularly until the updates are done, we're really looking forward to the next version of this too (and especially the new content!)

I see. I'm sure you'll be able to work something out.
By the way, now that we can have more than 3 energy points at a time, will third-level skills still reset the entire bar, or just consume three points?
It consumes them all, at least by default. There may be ways around this. : )
Also, I updated the video since the last one sucked.

Looks great! Very exciting. And thank you so, so much for the pause feature.
By the way, will it be possible to equip multiple skills of the same level at some point? Maybe as some special end-game bonus thing, once you start being flooded with skills you can't use?
I wouldn't see how to cleanly UI such a feature - I expect I won't be touching the 3 Attack/3 Support skills, however the rate at which you gain your skills is going to be a LOT slower, and there are other mechanics coming to help you focus your character in certain areas, so ideally you'll be building along a certain route of your choice and skill choices won't be too hard.

Only thing I don't like is the floor, it's too strong and makes things hard to look at, and it has a stronger edit on each tile compared to the lines inside.
