2011 RMN Summer Games

Wow, Rhyme's got quite a cheering squad, they even trump the Team Wombat gang!

2011 RMN Summer Games

Standard ZIP format should work fine on just about any computer. It's a given that the judges will be using Windows, XP is just the earliest version you should support.

This really isn't that complex, basically you give the judges 1 file, the steps to install or run the game should be pretty straight forward, and you're set.

If you think that this unfairly targets 2K3, keep in mind that we can't use licensed content for this contest, and 2K3 by itself is unlicensed in most our hands, so just be glad it's even allowed.

(If we this much energy into our games instead, imagine how much better they'd be?)

It Needs To End

I totally agree with Max on this one - I think Reviews should exist even if the game doesn't anymore.

@Holbert: Why do we allow comments from users other than the author and reviewer? If there's an error in the Review it could be handled by PMs to the review author I think.

Reviews themselves don't seem like a good place for discussion, should be on the game profile itself it seems - and if people have something they want to convey it'll make them want to write their own review more, especially if they can't be heckled by the peanut gallery.

I could see a Like/Dislike rating on reviews to help identify which are totally unfair or bad, but that could also be done with contacting admins with your reasons for wanting it put back under review.

Sex in games

author=calunio
Well, since 2 out of 3 replies are "I don't care", let's put it this way.
Games are clearly touchy about having sex in them. Do you (Max and Crimson and whoever else) consider yourself an exception on not caring? Do you think people care? If not, why there's no sex?

Sex is hard to write. I imagine trying to write it is like trying to have it the first time - most find it awkward and embarrassing. There's also the pressure of questioning your own experience and thoughts on it by how you portray it - you can just imagine the sarcastic posts asking if you're still a virgin or laughing about it.

It's also not something that is taken seriously in games yet - so adding it usually feels very out of place no matter how well it's done.

So I'd say the reward is rarely work the risk and that's why most don't add it.

so everyone is going to try and make space funeral

Damn, our plan is revealed!

2011 RMN Summer Games

The more I look into it, the more I think that making no sense the core of this - I am a master of making no sense.

2011 RMN Summer Games

Yeah, doing more research. I feel like the theme is expecting more depth than I have as a person though. : )

2011 RMN Summer Games

This theme confuses me.

Are we supposed to be making Van Gogh games or something?

I feel like we're not supposed to make RPGs for this...

What Happened Last Night

There's no way people can agree on whether something like this is legitimate or not - there is no standard and no moderator. Flaming comments back and forth like a courtroom drama, but with no judge or jury, just a bunch of lawyers with their own rulebooks spouting their version and interpretation of the law.

From my point of view it's been very obvious for a long time how much of all the satire and snark has been to 'improve RMN.'

If we're all so savvy and the methods so effective, why are they being employed here instead of doing it on a larger site with more matured indie developers?

I'm sure we'll all have plenty of snarky or clever responses, but isn't that really just kind of sad when you think about it?

the reason not many people aren't posting in this topic
I believe the reason is because they feel no need to get involved in something like this - nothing would be added or even considered. When have any of us really given a care at all about others opinions?

Gravity Review

The original idea was for it to be a Metroid-style game (unlock new powers for access different areas, etc,) but the contest deadline was too short so I made it into a puzzle game instead - was my first GameMaker game as well as platformer, so the jumping and controls aren't very friendly (I should update those...)

Funny you mention the sterile graphics - besides the main character I created all the graphics for the game myself, that's why it's so bland. : )

This is one project I've really wanted to do again - or at least take the idea to it's full use and maybe smooth up the platforming and improve the graphics and add a story or something. I've been learning Stencyl now that I've finished something with Unity, maybe revisiting this would be a good first test project.

Glad you enjoyed it!
