Updated Esperia's faceset, here's the large version (isn't used in game, just a maxi-size spread.

Lol it was a joke Vers.
Also, decided to redesign sappers since blue djinn with turbans aren't great, and this means I can do crazy religious shit instead.

Demyzel

Born from the fires of their own fanaticism, Demonic Zealots (or Demyzel shorthand) are the result of mortals fervor in the Heldathian powers, their threat while dangerous, is atleast only a one time threat. If confronted by armies of them, you may be in strife! Demyzels are fragile, taking only one hit from any weapon to kill, but in packs they can quickly overwhelm a heretic with their detonation which is cast the moment they make contact with their target, dealing 50 damage.

author=VersaliaLol, I posted that screenshot more or less as a "hey I can make ships too!" and now it's become the new corfaisus ship. :P
edit: just to be ABSOLUTELY CLEAR I am not arguing for the literal inclusion of 'yarr harr harr' but I think the majority of the time, when it comes to game design, you need to play to recogniza..bil..ity more than you need to play to real world source material that most people aren't actually familiar with
I mean, you guys have provided some great insight and I'll answer why the dialogue is like it is. But in spoilers because this goes fairly deep, I also may change it in the future since it does sound a little weird. Right now though my focus is on P:A.
The Space Pirates of tekerlek are'nt particularly unintelligent, they aren't educated, Jammi is the only one who is known to write, though it's possible others can, but ultimately they are from all sorts of planets, and the most of them are monkeys for a reason that prior to recently I couldn't have given, however the Tale of Simopia goes into the genetic code of the Universe, and the primodial form of warm-blooded beings is a monkey, because that just has to be the way it is, this not only makes it easy to explain why monkeys are fucking everywehere, but why humans and human-like creatures appear on all sorts of planets as well.
In billions of years past, there was only one planet which had life, and it was known then as "Simopia", these days its known as Haven. it is on this planet that two clans of monkeets became, one of curiousity, the Bizjala, and one of complacency, the Havenians.
In time the Bizjala would leave their home world to explore-- while some settled on planets, others would keep travelling without rest. From these primordials Earthen Humans, Nadinean Humans, Dwarves and later elves would arise. Billions of years later, 16 halfbreeds, of monkey and man would find each other through serendipitous means, and from them would from the crazy chimp collective, or to some-- Corporation XVI.
The sixteen half-breeds were still never feeling at home in the Universe, and this started the plot for current Simopia, which is a story set in 2048-2088.
It's likely that a lot of the Bizjala sought a life of adventure and/or freedom, thus they banded together to manufacture Tekerlek (which means literally "The Wheel" in Turkish, and it also plays well into that they are taking 'the wheel' on their desires and being very literal while doing it".
Being inventors without peer, it's a wonder it's as simple as it is, Tekerlek is the hub of space pirate activity, it's a massive space station (that you can visit in Menagerie btw) and this is where Crikey and his crew often hang out.
They all have their strengths, while Crikey isn't good at subtlety or particularly intelligent, he's an amicable driver, and is an inspiring steadfast leader who'll go through hells, an abyss and lots of dragon meat to find the prize for himself and his crew.
Jammi is an exceptionally skilled inventor, making the ship Crikey flies as well as being a fierce combatant, he's also one of the few able to read and often keeps paperwork for the crew when there is some (which is rarely.) That said Jammi is also very quick to anger, and seems to possess a short fuse.
Gib Goldtooth is the established moron, but he's at least self-aware, often making fun of himself, he knows his weaknesses, which are many, he's absolutely hopeless when confronted with womanly company, and behind the ships' wheel is truly a new definition of horror, however he's either an incredibly lucky gambligant, or very skilled at cheating, as he's on record for having never lost his bets.
Slinky is the sassy assassin of the group, and she seems very loyal to Crikey and seems to do a lot to please him. She and jammi are on a pretty level playing field, and the two often get into squabbles, while she's not an inventor, she's a very skilled alchemist. She's rarely seen without daggers coated in a self-engineered poison of some sort.
Treksi is a more rational nurse, fairly weary by appearance, and while she seems to doubt a lot of Crikey's decisions and is always fairly skeptical, she supports the crew to the end. Being on a level playing field with Crikey, the two get into arguments a lot.
Zinyi is the sapper of the group, he can teleport with his silly crystal ball and he speaks in an offensively corny german accent, he is rarely seen not dressed in a Zirkovian costume.
Finally, Sod is the peaceful, dainty Skeletopian scout, he rarely does battle, but enjoys all the sightseeing, Crikey happily hired him since he never asks for gold or riches, just the pleasure of exploration.
Alright, there we go! So basically the characters are all very fleshed out, and utilizing piratical slang is done, but in moderation.
I actually don't have anything to show you, i did that all last-last post so... I uh, alright. :/

Well i knew i would stay happy with that image of Esperia.
Now, to give others feedback!
@Blindmind: That's a really nice map, though I'm not sure what that white thing is in the large tree right and down of the center, some kind of bird?
@Joseph: Lol, that brings me back, man those weird sand fish that could fly.

Finished Stage 2, hell yes!
Now I really gotta go back and bugfix. Make it so you can't use weapons while climbing or carrying, etc.

author=VersaliaSome are like that, but I didn't want to force stereotypical pirate behaviors when they weren't even needed. Though I agree it isn't the most solid sentence in the world. Probably should change dumbasses to gobs.author=BizarreMonkeyYou should work on your composition; that "fuckin dumbasses" seems really out of place, because that's a rather stilted and composed bit of dialogue for a pirate dog. Crass it up a bit. "Y'ever hear someone say 'i juss got this new thingee here, it were a steal'? I steal it right from 'em and tell 'em 'NOW it's a steal!' Yarr harr harr"
snip
okay don't say 'yarr harr harr' that's bad, but you get my point
PizzaYou're absolutely right. menagerie is a real graphical mess, still, on Desura it was ahead of half-life and Five Nights at Freddies 2 (we were number 48 of over 3000 games) so I guess artistic coherency isn't all there is to making people want into a game.
@Bizarre: Those little glowing stone things need a lot more detail. They don't fit at all with the ship chipset. Well, the background and the face sets don't either, I suppose.
That said I'm really enjoying being as consistent as possible now.
LockeZYou can save anytime you have control of the player character, those stones just heal you fully.
The glowing stone thingy is obviously a save point so I'm not sure you'd want it to blend in well.
End of Stage 2 cutscene, yeee!
Had to actually use rpgmaker to animate, ugh! >:[
And here's some screenshots, as well. TWO NEW LEVELS, in fact Stage 2 is done. Now i gotta start mapping the hecticness of the Lower City.

The Lower City is indeed, where I'll be taking the kid gloves off.

author=JosephSeraphIt's black and blue, tho!
corfaisus' screenie has became the next white and gold dress
WHITE AND GOLD DRESS
edit: lol mispelt
I think the most disappointing thing about rpgmaker VX and beyond was the lack of a baseline ship chipset, VX was understandable due to how insistent they were on making the tileset support shit, but if you got VX ace then you're in the clear.
I actually did do a cool ship in VX Ace using Celianna's pirate tiles.

Hrrngng i thought I fixed those hammocks.
And the cabin.

One day I will make a game based around the space pirates you see here.

author=PizzaWould be if not for the reality that in most cases, the people giving out the shots are at the very least partially aware of its inspiration, the last thing you want to hear is strain-repetitive confirmation. I agree that it is a good thing to consider, and I myself have considered it in the past when making things, that said-- it's pointless to hear it over and over again. I gave my reasons for why, and if you are finding yourself flummoxed by the fact that you seem to be nearly alone in this opinion, then it's probably because it's not a very popular one.
I don't really understand why apparently all but 3 or 4 people on this site think that warning somebody about their game looking almost tile for tile like a very iconic scene from one of the most famous JRPGs ever made is a bad thing that you shouldn't do. Please. It isn't fucking "filler". It's a really good thing to consider.
It's not like I'm asking critique to be sunshine and rainbows, hell, I love the critique here because it is honest and has helped me see things that I didn't even consider before, such as graphic consistency, you guys inspired me to do that, so don't act like I'm here for gumdrops and ice cream, I just don't want to fill myself up on the same gumdrops and ice-cream.
So with that terrible analogy out of the way, let me clarify that I wasn't saying no one should ever do it, but it was over a fucking page of doing it, so what I'm saying is, I can understand why Corf might have been a bit defensive.
And like it or not, telling someone their this is like someone else's this is almost always filler, it's useless information in most scenarios, because it's usually inspired, on purpose or at least known about in some form already. In the rare exception that isn't the case, you've just made them disappointed that they weren't the first person to think of doing it.
PizzaThat is feedback.
@JosephSeraph: Pretty much everything looks great, but that world map tile set is way too busy. I'm not sure I can put my finger on exactly why... Too much highlight, or too much shadow, combined with all the tiling? Whatever the case it's definitely playing with my eyes.
SomeguyIforgetwhoCongrats, what a hero you are. (Person does not exist, I just made a line up to show the fullest extent of how this isn't feedback and it's often rather insulting as well.)
Lol, it looks like Final fantasy 4 on a low detail and animation budget.
author=JosephSeraphI can safely say that you guys here are partially responsible for this new direction, but I also wanted to do it myself, Dookie is right, I do need to add more detals, but right now i have a time limit for it so I'm having to spare it on that a little.
@BizarreMonkey i'm genuinely impressed by that pair of screenshots. Whoa, looks pretty damn good. =0 It looks much cleaner than what you normally do. I can sense a pretty strong sense of progression through your periodic screenies, that's good!
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee definitely inspired the layouts and some of the mechanics. (Such as the Splode Machines and trapdoors)
Those shadows took a while to get right. Due to layer stuff I had to compose shadows on different layers for diffirent things but without crossover.
author=JosephSeraphI think the problem isn't in the world maps saturation but by the abundance of stray colors, like why do the trees have bright blue in them?
Now, 'tis what I've been working on. Like nurvuss said 2 pages ago but I didn't reply 'cause i'm lazy, it's totally inspired by Final Fantasy Legend! As well as FFMQ and other SNES rpgs.
The last screenshot is more perplexing though, why such high detail faces amongst well... that
The bars, in their gradient nature, also look too smooth, and therefore really out of place.
Outside of that, it's looking cool so far.

author=unityI actually just a made a post about this size explaining all of what you have just now, but then decided to just replace it with the bit of banter I did because I'm sure craze is smart enough to know the difference and is just being a poo-pants for some reason.
I don't think coincidentally looking vaguely similar to the opening scene of FF4 is plagiarism. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe most people accidentally plagiarize stuff, and again, having an airship in the same position from the same point of view with some dudes on it seems like an extreme case to sound the plagiarism alarm, especially since he's said that in context, none of the rest of the details line up with the FF4 opening at all anyways.
Supervillains man I'm telling you.
@Corfaisus: Basically, I've never played FF4, and I could give less of a shit about how it's at all similar, the ship is... as Unity said, pretty bland though, and considering most of your screenshots which are usually sparkling with detail and life, I think it could be improved.
unityIn his defense, fifty comments about how it looks like X isn't what I'd consider feedback, it's useless (and annoying) filler. I myself was surprised when this shit was going on for over a page, and most of the feedback is still "Wow, looks like FF4!"
What I do agree with you about is that Corfaisus does indeed seem to have a very poor reaction to criticism here.
"Wow! Looks like I actually don't have anything at all constructive to say so here's what everyone else has already said umpteen times already!"
Kudos to those who did give actual feedback, rather than revealing the painfully acknowledged realization-- of which anyone who's played that game could invent on their own in less time that it takes a dog to crap.
Here guys just in the spirit of this whole stupid thing:

This isn't plagiarism, it only would be if I had plans to sell it. All fan games would be plagiarist contraband by Craze's interesting definition.
Luckily for ALL of us, It's just a thing I work on for fun sometimes, I've no plans to give it out... though I have gotten requests, which I didn't expect.
Were i still working on it, I'd have updated the god-awful border on that windowskin, propobaly to a pale (80% white) orange-yellow.
Who would even want to play a neopets fanagame when Neopets itself is free, far better, in tune with its universe (by virtue of being it's benefactor) and browser-based?
The premise of making this was just me being a fan of neopets for a long-assed time, I never plan to make something of it. If I did I'd just make a new game with my universe. I already have Byteopia for heaven's sake so the slate is already there.
