plagarism is cool. at least change a few words/tiles around like a high school sophomore

don't defend plagarism or mediocrity, it makes you look mediocre. a person puts up something in the critique thread and then gets defended over how it's okay to plagarize/look lame? k
That isn't plagiarism, doofus.

I agree with some things you've said, but saying plagiarism 16 times in a post when plagiarism isn't even what's happening here does vanish a little of your credibility, just so you know.

I'd tell you to be more careful with swinging that word around since it's a bannable offense on most forums, but this is RMN, the one RPGmaker forum I know of where the staff aren't pants-on-head retarded.
(meaning they'll look into it rather than blindly banning people because an accusation was made.)

you suddenly have a migraine and start hearing voices telling you "Watch out! This isn't just a reactor!"
RUH ROH! LockeZ started talking about FF7 we are SUPER-FUCKED.

Aheh, anyway, on this whole debate that has started being a thing, I say fuck people and do what you want, just make sure to do it well.

I mean, the game I'm making currently is pretty obviously inspired by oddworld, and one or two of Menagerie's cutscenes are blatantly similar to scenes from Invader ZIM, but because in their final rendition the music is different and it all looks different, there's not a huge amount of people that notice.

See "The Nightmare Begins" and "Vision" for the most blatant example.

Oh, I'm working on Stage2 currently, it's becoming really complicated due to the amount of weird puzzle shit, but here's a screenshot of recent stuff.

Gonna modify sped's position and probably get rid of the yellow help sign in the future, since the player would already know how to do that.

Yo RMN. It's been too long. I finally have time for game dev again, huzzah ~
Here is the thing I am currently working on:

Still need to add finishing touches and dump snow all over it.

If anyone has tips for pixeling stained glass, lemme have it. It was challenging. >;
Yeah that stained glass definitely looks out of place, maybe give it a bit of a reflecting bars, look? like darken it then taken two diagonal strips out to show it is indeed suspended glass, oh and maybe giving it a bit of a border or a tiny bit of grunge around the edges would help make it the window, rather than a window.

Otherwise, good god that looks amazing.

As for me, working on Perseverance: Adherence, finished stage one for now, and I'm beginning on stage 2, I've already done most of the nuclear silo on paper, mapped out the puzzles n' stuff, it's just left to drawing it in gimp and once in game implementing all the mechanics.

The lower city should be good fun, it's gonna be almost a chase sort of thing, where you see something and have to change direction, use a button etc. Once I finish it, then I just need to make the EOA1 (End of Act One) cutscene, and depending on time left maybe do a bit more.

Although, now that I think of it, having some little ships like dots in the sky could be a really cool image of LOTS of ships in the distance.
I can personally confirm that this can be super cool.

A fucking massive armada blanketing the screen can really show how high them stakes are.

That's a wallpaper I made since I couldn't find any good space armada wallpapers, so I just did the practical thing and made my own.

You can't be serious. Can't have airships now, Final Fantasy did it first. Nope nope nope.

The Hindenburg blew up because the pilot knew that later there would come a JRPG that would have airships and he couldn't bear the thought of having more than one in the annals of history. There can be only one!
I think this is the funniest thing I've read all week.

@BizarreMonkeyThat cutscene was very well animated. It was confusing, though. I didn't really know what was going on, but there were nice moments like that cat jumping out of the way to reveal the other cat shooting a shotgun.
Then it appears I need to work on it some. it is the intro, after all. Basically the story is that Nola's parents have been killed (hence the copious amounts of blood in the first still pan), then the recusant (red cat) saves the black cat from the parent-killers, and let's Nola avenge her loved ones death.

If that wasn't clearly portrayed, then I've got work to do.

Speaking of cutscenes, here's the next that i just finished today. If you don't entirely understand the direction, that's okay, some stuff does happen before that
you would need for context.

I think I'm gonna definitely need to rethink that ambient sound, though.

Oh, and here's a couple screenshots from the next stage.

What are you thinking about? (game development edition)

author=Ilan14
I'm thinking that I should make some time to develop a game. :P
All you have to do is believe, then you will see everything.

Do or do not, there is no think!

Okay I'll stop haphazardly quoting (and badly paraphrasing) blockbuster one liners and get to whatsit I been workin' on.

A LOT, systems have recently become operational for Perseverance: Adherence, and development is in full swing, for example, in the hide tags below is a face set, character portrait and sprite for Svoli, one of the characters in the game.

3/14 is alos coming up, which is a big date for me virtually always since 2011 (not including 2012 shhh) and the reason for that is simple.

Hm, on trying to explain it in short briefness, I realized it actually isn't so simple, so nevermind that for now.

Point is, it merits me making lots of cool stuff (which I like doing) to celebrate, with not only friends and my employees, but with whoever else in the cyberverse wants to as well. And this year man have we got some victories to talk about.

Gonna get back to working on the video for it soon, for now here's a link to an older one which covers in 7 minutes or less why 3/14 is special to me and maybe other people.

certainly, there's a lot more I could show, but it seems we are out of time. I've got a job to do.

Pixel fonts?

snippity snip bap da wap dop snop

Looks fine to me!

I cheated, that's a proof of concept script that'll use a font image and definitions created by Angelsoft's Bitmap Font Creator. It hijacks the draw_text method and if a bitmap font is being used draw it using its own code instead of RM's own.

For reference here's the same but aliased:

I don't think I've ever seen a more jusified reason to cheat, so good job mate!

I think Pizza's windowskin is fine, that font is likely PH at the moment considering it bears a striking resemblance to VLGOTHIC, or the RTP font for VX Ace.

@Pizza: When choosing a font, think of how it'll work with your game, I'd think something like this would do well for your up and coming blockbuster, maybe not! Though if you do find it's too thin definitely bold it by default.

Oh yeah, I forgot i actually have something to get feedback on, it's very much a WIP at the moment, so I'll let you folks at it.

It's the opening for the game. If there's any feedback that wasn't 'wow this is awesome' I got on M:R, it's that some of my cutscenes tend to drag on past their welcome, so I'm hoping to avoid that this time around.

Yes the name of the cutscene is indeed a play on soul saving sacrifice.

Most related video is prevailing prayer part one, lmao at that.

I think it'll look more visually balanced once I get the faces put in there, and I'll be sure to post an update once I do end up implementing that. As bad as it may sound I'm sort of hard set on having the faces & window oriented like that, as it's one of the reasons I chose a more widescreen resolution for the project. What I'm most concerned about in terms of the end product is the readability and graphical consistency of the message and face graphics.
Probably, and hey, regardless of what you do with the windowskin I'll probably download and play it when its ready.

Okay, this isn't exactly a screenshot but it is something I'll need help from you guys with, it's the current boxart for the game (Desura demands it!) and I'm not sure if I'm doing anything right. I had a pretty cool idea so if any of you wanna have a look and see it as unsalvagable, then I'll probably start over.

I put it in hide tags because it's pretty big and again, not a screenshot. Would appreciate any feedback, tho!

@BizarreThe background as it is is already very distracting, but if the windows are all square like in Dookie's version, then it won't draw as much attention because the pattern is regular almost like a texture rather than having irregular splotches of windows.
Fuck, logic strikes again.

Yeah, I'll see what I can do. Currently I need to get my ass in gear and get a demo ready for the critical date, but after that I can easily implement dookie's suggestion, i prefer how his looks too, just wasn't sure if it'd be more distracting.

Just so you know, the demo won't be available here, first thing you guys will see of the game is the release edition, assuming you see it at all. Gettin pretty sick of making game profiles for them to get next to no attention, that may be my fault. But I was recently 60th most popular on Desura and Gamejolt also generates a lot more eyes, making the need for attention here kinda moot and setting up the pages is always a PITA so i may just skip it this time since 28 downloads over the course of four months are numbers I'm hardly going to miss, especially since outside of the downloads i've gotten next to no feedback on the damn thing. (yes, I'm having a big babby's huttburt whinge, upside is I no longer have to worry about the need for RMW or VXace.net either!)

Right! So yeah time to give responses where due.

@Pizza: I like how it looks artistically, I think it should definitely be in the center though and have the split-woodplank border in both sides, it looks kinda weird like that. it is horribly offending my OCD that I probably don't even have.

@Bizarre I think those buildings look bad. The windows in particular. They register more as big blocks of color than windows imo.

I think something like this would look better:

That that took literally 2 seconds. Slow down on the details a little bit and I think it would drastically improve the overall look.
You're probably right, I have to have a demo ready of this game by 3/14, though. So we'll see how it goes.

I did want to avoid doing that so it wouldn't make the player focus on the background, having windows like that may draw the players attention, when it's probably 5 or so enemies are on the screen at once, that's something I'd like to avoid.

Also some cool news, M:R on desura was in the top 100 yesterday, capping out at 80th most popular game on the site, 65 places behind airmech.

So that was rad.
