Your character graphics need to be as MSpaint-tastic as your background designs, just for the sake of consistency.
I'll be doing that next patch, which is to say, the release build, I didn't have time to do it for the first demo due to a self-inflicted deadline.

Also, while I generally like your color choices, I'd make the color of the palm tree leaves darker, so that they stand out from the color of the grass.
I agree, and the snow area is even worse, both will be fixed in 1.0.0 or 0.9.0 depending on if I do a pre-release build.

As far as the graphics go - aside from the fact that I couldn't care less about how bad a game looks as long as it's got good gameplay - they look totally fine to me.
That's an attribute I can respect. Congratulations, you are one of the few game developers and reviewers who seem to understand this. ^.^
