Time and Space are OP. Especially if used at the same time!
Can confirm. I read Homestuck.

Where is Cake?
Busy being told by 20,000 obnoxious titbaskets that it reeks of deceit.

And probably in the midst of being eaten, by me. Yum.

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

The last week has been all heavily focused on getting Menagerie: Remastered ready for an in-company alpha testing phase. But I haven't skipped it on end game stuff.

I'm also adding "Toughies" which are like regular enemy except one toughy enemy, they drop much more valuable loot, though! Here's just one of them.

One more screenshot.

Then a video, yes.

A silly celebratory video of releasing five games to the public.

I see the RTP as a good starting point for new developers to mess around with.
It challenges us to be creative and try new things like editing to get just what you want.
Debatable. I'll agree it's a good starting point, but only to that extent.

I don't see how it challenges you to be creative, you can be creative with any tileset, if you meant setting an atmosphere with it outside of it's scope is creative, then yes, that would be a challenge-- though a waste of creativity to overcome when there are so many tilesets out there, for sale or for non-commercial use. If you're making a commercial game, it's quite liekly you're at a stage where you can either make your own tilesets or edit the RTP to blend with the atmosphere.

I also disagree that the RTP can not be used for heavy drama medevel/feudal theme, from what I have so far it looks good.
There's this for medieval/fuedal dramas of a heavy variety. Using chibi's for such a thing is contradictory in 85% of scenarios in which it is attempted.

By the way is this map ok?
Lol why is the house wall made out of waterfalls? Not necessarily bad just, not sure if thats what you're meaning to do.

There's a bit wrong with it, but it's off to a good start. I'll let the others tell you whats wrong with it, since if i do it'll take a lot of words to explain some minor issues.

Also here's a video of one of the best maps I've made:
Rensooi Tower - Planet Haven.

The next RPG Maker

author=Rave
There's 3D "hold your hand" game maker out there. It's called CraftStudio, but has number of issues (example: It's stuck with Minecraft-like graphics, N64-like graphics if you try REALLY hard).
You sure showed me!

Also Platinum Arts sandbox, is in fact true 3D editor (based on great Cube2/Sauerbraten engine). Dunno from where you got that info it's 2.5D like Doom...
I just assumed since while playing it I could change where I was looking and the wall texture got all distorted. Sharing the texturing oddities with its 2.5D predecessor.

I could be wrong though, and for how easy it is to run, it looks really fuckin' nice.

When you write, how much do you base the work, or yourself on existing fiction or writers?

I find myself constantly having to tone down my writing, either so it doesn't eerily represent Andrew Hussie's writing style, so it's legible by those who don't live life on a dictionary's manifold, and sometimes just because it's obtuse or too coarse or not good enough.

I don't know many people in real life all that well, so typically, characters are either based off parts of my personality or derived heavily from other characters. Or I make a big messy mix of the two into something more refined.

I neither like or hate the RTP, but it bothers me that people use it interchangeably with almost every different type of game genre. The RTP's style communicates a cute, happy-go-lucky fantasy adventure, not an adult-oriented horror or a hard-medieval drama.
I don't mind the tilesets or weird chibi sprites all that much, it's the facesets that annoy me excessively.

To keep this on topic.

*Slosh*

Lack of order or context makes this more funny and suggestive than it actually is.

Don't get me started on people hating on the RTP.
The Nightmare Returns.

Also, more screenshots! ^_^

I love you GIMP "Line Nova" tool.

And then, my work is outshown by one of my artists.

Sorry for this blur it's the engine I'm testing my graphics which is currently in development (will get rid of that effect eventually)

Enemies and heroes are animated.

I have a question for you guys without giving too much away:

If this would be the graphic style of some run time package: would you prefer it over the Ace or XP RTP and use it to create your own games? Do you think other people would use it?
I'd use anything over RTP, frankly.

RTP's style is one I really find insufferable, whether it's the purplish shadows, the pretentious linework or something else, I feel like it's a style designed to be a middle ground between the western cartoons and eastern anime, which... I dunno go one way or the other in my view, but yes... heck if I wasn't fairly decent at art and didn't have employees to do tilesets for me I'd PAY to have RPG Maker look like that.

But yes, you should definitely release these as an SDK or however, heck, you could probably even charge a bit for em, up to you!

As for me, I've been working on making dialogue more reliant on subtext, show don't tell is what my bro said to do, so I'm gonna take that advice pretty well. I'm also doing my best to make each character fairly unique in the way they present information. Mostly they are gonna keep their emotions to themselves, too. How they feel about things is something I'll mostly leave to the player to discern.

Oh, Screenshots, right!

Hey, with this style, not even bones and stuff is needed. But if you focus on finding solid shapes to sketch from, like an oval head and such, you can solidify your look very quickly. Everything would have a feeling of form rather than just looking cool, which you pull off very well. Maybe I'm nitpicking. I say keep doing what you're doing and it'll just get better over time regardless. (Which is exciting to say the least)
Ahahaha, yeah mostly I don't rely on a skeleton, I just decided to do one for Galaxion's because I thought it would be fun.

If horrifying when transparency is involved. For some absurd reason I took your post as a challenge for me to overcome.

As far as the Bizznasty MsPaint style goes, yeah, it's not something I have trouble doing well, which I suppose is victim to learning how to do shapes and stuff in Paint for over 10 years.

That said, I always feel there is room to improve my technical ability when it comes to art. Galaxions are easy to draw due to their proportions being hidden well by their robes and stuff, also their hands and feet are simple.

What's really fun is working with colors in MSpaint, did this noir drawing a fair while ago (added a background in GIMP)

Was pretty happy with how it came out.
