Suddenly philosophy everywhere.
What I will state is that I know the power of words, a punc can give you a bruise, the right clusterbombing of words can be the impetus behind tears. Most of you wouldn't know this because I don't publicly advertise it, but I used to very commonly troll people around the place, I was a young idiot and needed a way to amuse myself. I'm not proud of any of it, but it made me appreciate the weight words hold.
It's like V himself says, words always retain their power, they are a means to meaning.
A punch says 'yo, I don't like you, so here's a bit of pain that'll be gone in a couple hours at most unless I really badly overdid it.'
Words can say things far more potent, but this virtually just boils down to a matter that SJW's have nothing to do with, and never have.
Be careful what you say yo. That's it, that's all there is to it, have some common sense, unless people are dying for something to lord over you, you'll do fine.
I've got over 60 friends on skype, at least 10 of which I talk to on a regular basis and have known for 3-6 years.
No one has blocked me unless we weren't really "friends" to begin with. I think I've run out of wind for this topics discussion.
@Penta: I wasn't comparing you to a SJW, by the way! Sorry if it sounded that way, I just meant you seemed pretty neutral on both sides of the debate, unlike fellas like me or McGee who are in violent opposition, or others who are in zealous defense.. if you could even call it that.
If that rule gets dropped, it's a dangerous step towards a multitude of disasters. I know it won't get dropped, and even if it does, the Human Race in general is too bigoted to enforce it. But where you see insults as all bad, you need to take another look.
Political activism? Dead.
Mockery of any diety or historical figure, next on the list.
This is the progogated lean the slippery slope could lead to.
Not to mention that those leading the enforcement of such a rule will be people charged with spying in public places everyday, yeah... people who may be a shady CEO. Remember Big Brother?
That's a possible circumstance, except on a much more lightweight basis.
I know that's crackpot, but think if words started getting banned, how many of your favourite shows wouldn't exist anymore. You don't just blacklist insults, slurs, sure. I don't care because I can be funny without them, but even with slurs blacklisted, it will not solve any of the problems you face.
In fact, due to rebelling against 'da system', it's likely slurs will be used more, and folks of your sort may be treated more badly than they are currently, because you did something which impedes everyone.
I mean look how much flak gay fellas are getting in the US since the whole of the U.S. started legally allowing gay marriage. Don't get me wrong, it's a huge step forward, and I like it's finally a thing over there, (it sure isn't here, sadly :[) but what I'm saying is, that was minor, like that barely effected anyone who wasn't gay, sure the usual southern-blooded bigots got on their high horse, but they've just been ignored or mocked.
Censoring something effects a lot of people, and probably you as well. The outcry against censoring a fundamental word like idiot... man, we had a fucking cacophony of riots here when one of our coalition leaders tried to get the word 'ass' banned in favor of everyone using arse.
Okay yeah I made that up but it's an example.

This is the great fear? That you won't be able to insult people as freely as you'd like?I've already been over this, it's a slippery slope. Personally, for day to day use I wouldn't mind so much, it's the effect it would have on a various forms of entertainment that would be so devastating. You gotta put a bit more thought into it than 'oh you just can't insult people'.
If that rule gets dropped, it's a dangerous step towards a multitude of disasters. I know it won't get dropped, and even if it does, the Human Race in general is too bigoted to enforce it. But where you see insults as all bad, you need to take another look.

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!
What are you thinking about right now?
author=CorfaisusI was joking around.
You missed the point. What I was clearly talking about is hallucinations such as seeing ghosts or hearing voices. Such things fall into the realm of psychosis which should be diagnosed and treated ASAP.

I think his point was to establish that he isn't asking for any special rights just because he's ginger. That's at the least been my issue with this whole debacle, I don't mind if people don't want to be called sudden things, in most cases I'll adhere because contrary to how much I curse, I'm actually a pretty tolerant human being.
It's the narcissistic elitism and entitled pleas for mercy even when the peons themselves are being just as rude that annoys me. Corfaisus' example earlier in this thread which I jumped on is a perfect example.
I understand where you're coming from Penta, and you're probably the most level-headed I've seen speak on the topic. I'm glad you did bring up the difference between a slur and a label.
Slurs are a thing I am pretty careful about, because I know they were used for hate mongering. Insults are fine in my book, I get them on a daily basis, and give them on a daily basis, in jest or not.
What me and fellows like Max, Harmonic and others are concerned about is that Slurs will become in-distinguished from insults and that we will no longer be able to say 'idiot' or stuff like that. That is the goal of zealous Social Justice Warriors, and it's horrible.
I have said the f word (the other f'word not, fuck, come on... I use that all the time!) once here and I got a warn for it, and even though it was in jest, I understood why I had action taken on me and humbly accepted it.
If I said idiot and I got warned for it I don't think I'd be so willing to accept it, hell, who am I kidding, I'd start rallying people to say all the most insulting non-slur things they can just to prove a point. The perfect world of the social justice warriors is one where they themselves won't be happy. Humans have a baseline need to be dicks, that's what gets us anywhere.
You don't need slurs to be a dick, but you do need insults, imagine a world without insults?
Yeah, pretty boring, huh? And impossible.

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?
Apparently PSP's are super easy to emulate. I haven't experimented myself, but my bro has been winging all kinds of rad games lately on the PC that are for PSP.
I've been routinely playing Taffeine Rush, which is a game that first acts like it's a College art journal simulator but then it gets really existential and involves inter-dimensional transport and weird half monkey people. I just got up to the part where I was told off by a snarky female Kangaroo for liking it too much.
A game I've been having a lot of fun with lately is one by one of ours, Engalia the Wager by Sated, finally got around to trying out some of his stuff. This battle theme is great.

What are you thinking about? (game development edition)
author=SatedSame here, I have a chat for the VX.netians. I'm hardcoded to dislike IRCs.
An RMN Skype chat would be preferable to IRC for me.
If no one else wants to, I could set it up, my skypename is bizarremonkey. Add me and I'll form us into something awesome.
I've got some experience running chats, like already mentioned I've been the one who organized the vx.net chat and I've also been running a Company through a collective chat. If everyone else is too lazy to initialize it, just add me on skype and I'll take care of it.
Some things to note, I'm not going to be any kind of strict moderator, and the only rules that will really matter are don't be an asshole just for the sake of it, this has been a successful strategy in the chats I've governed. Faffing about with vitriol and shit like that is fine, and encouraged usually.
On what I've been thinking about game dev wise... what boss mechanics to give Jolt and Hydro in 314th Clash.
of games, representation, and women's cheekbones
author=harmonicThere's a reason derailment has become so easy... the topic itself has so little fucking substance.
That is a great design. Powerful, doesn't show skin. I don't see the issue. Because you can see that she has hips and boobs under her clothes?
author=CorfaisusNice generalization there, bro.
I don't blame you because you're a Bill O'Reilly Jr. (Jr.) like the rest of them, albeit they claim to be of the left. Politics and all that.
How does it feel to be such a naughty little sinner?
It's fine when you call us names or make generalizations, but when you get insulted, we should respect you instead? Hahahahahaha, woooowww. You sure showed me! You're supposedly 25, can't you see how fucking stupid that thing is you just said? Do you even really know what you're supporting here?
This is where you blind zealous defenders of this horseshit piss me off, you think it's fine to insult others, but the world your aiming for means you too could not do that, so be less of a fucking hypocrite and get over yourselves. You don't want to be censored, yeah, neither does anyone. Make sense yet??
I myself have seriously considered becoming Transgender on more than one occasion, and it's still on the table, if people called me a tranny, I honestly doubt I'd care, because I have a spine, and I fully believe in the "you reap what you sow" semantics of social culpability. Also it's just a lazy way to say tranvestite, so... big deal? Like I could understand if someone was calling you something designed to be derogative, but you people ask for too much.
Like, yeah, faggot is designed to offend, calling someone gay, that's okay! Or, it should be if cast in a non-negative light. Because it's just a way to say 'he likes dudes' or 'she likes gals'.
You people are fucking pathetic. You are this way, enjoy it as best you can, quit trying to find insults in fucking everything, it's getting really old.
What are you thinking about right now?
author=CorfaisusUp to interpretation, some!
You do know that if you're seeing something that's not there that it's a sign of a serious mental illness, right?
Like when you see a shape in a patterned cork floor it's just the human brain making something out of nothing, doesn't mean you're in possession of a mental illness, just that you have a decent imagination!
Man on the subject of Cats, much as I love them I just don't get them anymore, they love looking dollfaced at car headlights wayyyyy too much.
I've had over 10 cats in my life only two of which died from something that wasn't a car. And one went for the fucking record and got hit TWICE, oh Tripod ya silly goose!
I've had two dogs, one that is still alive and chases cars, neither have died by car, the former was put down because of a severe itching molt problem that just made him miserable, but he was super old anyway, and the other's over 8 years old now (human years) and is still boisterous. We called her Jojo.
R.I.P. RPG Revolution
author=eplipswichWe tried, they were too soft and orderly for us, the majority of those who remained on VX.net till it's doomsday are therefore on dinoctopus.com now.author=yuna21Could it have migrated to this, though? http://www.rpgmakervxace.net/
So, it's finally happened.
"RPGMakerVX.net is undergoing repairs. We will update you when more information becomes available."
Bah. That's just a euphemism for stating that the site has finally died. What a shame. I started to make a name for myself there.
Oh well.
We did make a genuine effort with VXace.net, but they are too closely monitored by it's sister/master site; RMwebs, who for different reasons fear me greatly which... I dunno I guess it's flattering?
But case in point, I got banned for telling a moderator to do his job properly, so I left silently, never really seeking any sort of comeuppance, since I don't think VXace.net's staff have the same vendetta against me that RMwebs do, I'd wager they were put up to it, and evidently they were grasping at straws because I've never been banned for anything so petty before.
My list of offenses was swearing a little, being honest and posting a couple screenshots when not in the interest of feedback, I see RMwebs and VXace.net as sort of the inverse of here, this place is rough and hella forgiving because no one gives much of a shit, and I like that. You fellas have balls, on VXace.net I was legitimately talked down to for using biblical jabs in a game despite giving clear warning that I had done so.
This is the sort of shit I'd expect from a pre-school regime not a fucking site for 13+ year old game devs. As if I'm not aware enough to know it has a chance of offending people.
