If you take a closer look at the results, It's easily visible it's not that dysfunctional and there weren't too many tumblr lovers (Home got only seven votes in GOTY section). As i stated before problematic are categories where voters don't really know on what basis they should nominate and vote. The good example is Technical Prowess where OneShot amassed astonishing 60 votes and the second was game made with Unity (It's Anaryu's game, so it's probably technical gem).

I think changes Kentona suggested are legit and I don't agree on restriction. I want to be able to nominate game I haven't played even It's unlikely I'll ever do so. In case I nominated my shitty game for graphics award and it were looking horrible and some of my tumblr friends did the same, It would make complete sense to delete it from the list later and not bother us during voting procedure.

On the other hand Misaos are people's choice and any restrictions from the the establishment are against theirs nature. I'm for this second branch of awards where committee of renowned critics, developers and artists would make it's official selection.

Yeah, Buzz needs a tweaking. I built it back BEFORE we had the atomic Pom drop, and before every game ever was a "horror" game. The driveby download numbers are skewing things greatly under the old buzz score ratios, and I have to fix that. I'll rework it.

Also, I like that nominations are open to all members and all year round. I think where it really fell apart this year is the transition from Noms to Votes - I could use a Misao Committee there to tweak the autogenerated nomination list for each category. They could add games that were obviously overlooked (or were too new to get noms), remove games from the Demo list (or other obvious categories like Non-RPG when it's really an RPG), and then discuss the rest of the nominations for appropriateness. (and maybe whittle down each category to 5 entries, but 10 entries for NonRPG and GOTY?).

As for the voting stage, what we need more than anything else is more people voting. I mean, we have around 600 active monthly members, and GOTY wins with 37 votes? What's up with that? Gotta work on that.

I'm not really whining about the way it is and I think OneShot and Home deserved appreciation for the ruckus they made if not for anything else. The Misaos are popularity awards after all.
There exist two most hitting problems. The first one are some of the categories as they don't really fit the nature of the contest. If Oscars were people's choice, iPhone would win the best technical innovation every single year. In case of these some regulation in between the rounds can show worthy.
The second problem are too responsible active members of the community. Few played enough games to be objective. I wasn't myself. I voted for Sunken Spire as GOTY, cuz I liked it. It wasn't the best RMN game I played last year, It was the one I had had most fun with (and I have tendencies to write angry comments, why SS didn't won the best characters category as It contained Ezekiel).

My fav dung crawler is Tower of Druaga. It has it all. Fast-paced battles and unique mechanisms. Battles mixed up with puzzles. Take some inspiration from it.
