So like, there is a new Final Fantasy DS game

I remember that from Legend of Mana, where you had to insert tetris-like skill blocks into your golem's cortex.

As for the game, I guess I'm not the target audience.

RMN Pixel Art Contest #2

Great, guys, you managed to spam *another* topic. And who's this Geodude guy that keeps popping up in virtually every topic? A GW reject or something?

Anyway, I'm still in and will submit my mockup on Saturday. This isn't the best time for me for contests though, since I'm having my Bachelor's degree (licentiate) exam on Tuesday, but I'll whip up something cool.

Summer Screenshot Spectacular!

More crystals, of varying sizes.
Rocks, ditto.
Frozen animals inside those crystals.
Glowing crystals (yellow?); in walls and "growing" out of the floor.
Frozen plants (mushrooms, grass etc.).
Snow (from a hole in the ceiling).
Frozen waterfall.
Pillars.
Lower levels on that last screen would like nicer if they were a bit darker (both bridges and floor/walls).

An actual update / Font fix information

They are very cool (especially "Absorb"), well done!

Elevation Made Easy

I think it's a good article, just not as useful as some others, since not everyone feels a need to put elevation in their games. And it does not automatically make for a better game. For example I wouldn't want to play the game from the last screenshots, it feels extremely gimmicky. But elevation similar to FF6 (a bridge here and there, which you can walk under or over) is good.

If you have a chance to have another RTP...

I'd like them to get rid of that darn Mack & Blue style for tilesets. Not only is it sooo uninspired and bland, but doesn't even fit into contemporary fantasy style; it's anachronistic.

I mean we've seen the same furniture designs over and over, ever since M&C released their first chipsets for 2K! It's time to move on, Enterbrain!

SMT: Devil Survivor

Get used to fusing your favorite demons and transfer only the most useful skills (never discard Pierce!).

Never use demons 10 levels lower than the hero's.

If you find yourself with more than 1 skill to crack from 1 enemy in a story battle, choose wisely. Try to get all support skills (those used automatically at the start of each turn) and all "anti" skills. Damage skills are easy to get in "free battles".

Pump Magic and Agility for your main character, and on day 6 or 7 add Vitality and Strength (for various Drains and Repels). Atsuro is good enough for a melee monster, and you don't need two of those.

SMT: Devil Survivor

This is SMT, there's no "true" ending, only the one you think best suits your feelings (or which you think is the most fun).

You can't mess up, but based on with whom you talk with and your responses you'll be given a different number of routes to choose from. I believe it's possible to get them all in one playthrough.

SMT: Devil Survivor

That little blurb does not do justice to the story.
First, I don't remember getting any message .Second, you receive your COMPs only a few minutes into the game and by activating it you summon demons, who, after a brief battle, form your first contracts. Third, Tokyo (part of it? I'm not familiar with the layout of this city) is under lockdown and no one really knows why; people aren't aware of the presence of demons. They all think it's a terrorist attack and patiently await for the police to resolve it.

There are also a few cool ideas like e-mails predicting what'll happen (it's up to you to make sure it doesn't, as they are pretty much all genocides); numbers above people's heads (???), and more. You also have different routes for the last day, you can, among others, become the King of Demons, the Messiah, or simply escape the lockdown. There's New Game+ of course, and an optional super boss.

All in all the story's surprisingly solid. I'd say it's on par with Persona 2 and feels like reimagining of SMT 1. You never know what's really going on until the last day, and you slowly uncover the truth piece by piece. It's linear, but your decisions affect some things, like whether minor characters live or die, and, most importantly, what routes become available.

It's one of the few DS games I truly recommend.
