Thank you! I'll be very glad to share it ;)

Yeah, I remember playing Kairo as well that had a similar minimalist approach.

:)) Glad you like it!

this image just reminds me of how much better everyone else is at aesthetics than I am (this looks cool, btw)

Thank you! ;_;
Pixel art is still one of the fields I don't feel very confident yet, so your words really mean a lot to me right now, haha

I would personally recommend green. I feel like purple would stand out too little.
Very, very bright green.

That might be a good idea. It would also in theory make the Shadow stand out more without the need of drawing an outline to its sprite. I'll experiment with that, thanks! :)

Ahhh yeah I forgot about divergence :P I played a bit of that game and they are a bit similar, although divergence seems less black-blue only and more colorful. At first I actually thought those blue stuff were ripped from undertale XD I'm sorry

Haha, don't worry about it. Now that Undertale is so popular it's easier to compare fade's sprites to the dark Waterfall area, which means extra work for me because I'd then need to further differentiate the two things.

I think it's more like divergence than Undertale, honestly. It's the first thing that sprang to mind (it's a game on this site and is worth checking out, if only because it's really pretty and has an interesting gameplay element).

Oh, I can see why it came to your mind. That's some really good sprite work, thanks for sharing! I still consider myself as a beginner when it comes to pixel art, as I'm doing all the artwork myself out of necessity rather than choice.

Haha yeah I've been following this on gamejolt too before it was released here so I know X3 I just thought they looked very similar.

Yeah, but I understand that kind of reaction! I've played Undertale too recently and I've seen why it's being all the rage right now. Even though I fully finished the game my experience with it just keeps going with all the great fan work around and headcanon, haha

Undertale?

I was preparing the sprite art for this map before Undertale was released. I began working on _fade in early 2014, though my inspiration for this map stemmed from YN fangames (.flow, LcdDem) and YN itself.

That's news to me. Seems to me YN fangames have been slowly dying down for years.

YN-style mechanics however seem to be still in vogue with more ambient/exploration experiences being released these days.
It's a very niche market, but it's slowly finding its way in.
I'm sure things are gonna get interesting in this decade with technologies emerging and indie developers crafting more enticing experiences.
