GAMINGMITCHELL03232013'S PROFILE

I am a newbie to this site and RPGMaker. Currently I am working on an untitled game in RPG Maker 2000. (It seems to be really easy to use, even with it's limitations) I will post a demo when I see the game is "demo worthy".

Personally if you're going to have a dead end, there should be a reason to have one. Dead ends in RPGs piss me off if there's nothing there in the first place. In your earlier posts you said this was one of the final dungeons (Too lazy to look, you did say that right?). With that said, you should have a Monster-In-A-Box that contains a powerful weapon. (Think Shinryu from FFV but not as overpowered) Just my opinions though.

(VX/Vx Ace) Pack of Tilesets

When you say we can't use this stuff in Commercial games, does that mean we can't sell any games with your tileset pack?

Sorry for the bump.

The top image's panorama fits well because you're on a mountain, but the bottom image doesn't do it for me because it looks like the bridge is a poster in front of waterfalls and cliffs (at least to me anyways). If that's supposed to be a bridge over water then maybe the background image could be a scrolling picture of water? These are just my opinions, feel free to ignore them if you want.

I guess it's just a matter of opinion really. It seems more people enjoy this concept. And I never doubted your abilities. I just didn't think it looked right for a 2D sprite to be moving in a 3D environment without seeing it done in action. This will be the last thing I'm posting about the matter.

The Screenshot Topic Returns

I can tell the difference, but I'm not talking about having a text box over a 3D picture. I'm only saying some people are going to have problems with walking on a grid with a 3D picture as the background.

The Screenshot Topic Returns

1. If this is in 2K3 then the quality of the picture's going to have to be butchered.
2. If I'm still moving like I'm on a grid on a 3D map like this, it's not going to do it for me, sorry.

This is "wrong". Nevermind, that I see nothing at all wrong with it, because it's a curved road aside a hill. But seriously, it's just a game. Nobody playing the game who isn't an art snob is gonna care if the character is too short/tall with regard to the scene. I mean, look, most of us grew up with characters big as towns on worldmap.

It's not about being elitist about sprite sizes. It's about trying to do 3D in a game engine designed to make 2D games. Your screenshot is a bad example because the cartoonish 2D sprite clashes with the realistic 3D environment. It's fine as a panorama, but if you're moving in the map as if the picture IS the map, then the perspective is somewhat off.

@White_Rabbit Just asking, what engine is this project in? If it's in 2K(3), it's not going to work for some people.

RPG Maker VXAce Trailer is out!

This trailer is way better than the one that had an Engrish voice over. Though this one is still my favorite.

Something that might help is to not make your maps too big. Towns or dungeons that are too spacious always end up looking stale and bland, unless you have a ton of detail in the said map. Imagine taking Corfaisus's example and increasing it's size. The layout's been changed, the object placement is different, but because of all that empty space, it looks bad. Though sometimes, the problem can be the total opposite where you have too much detail for the maps own good. In this case, having too much detail can be bad because everything's going to look redundant and repetitive.

That thumbnail on the games page is boss.
