YOU ARE BEING TOO AGGRO

Hallo, I make games.
I'm a mapper/writer and try to escape all other aspects of dev as much as I can.
My pastimes include consuming unhealthy amounts of manga, yaoi pr0n and begging people to work with me so I don't have to event or do gameplay.

Also expect HOARDS of typos from me. And rants. Much typoed rants.

Mapping in 5 easy steps

Thanks for the praisee! \;o;/

Also, one of the first reactions to honking around with Ace:
"Omg, what is this? Shadows? A shadow tool? OH YEAAAAAHHHHH!" *fangasm*
It's still crappy in the sense that it STILL doesn't go over the other tile, tho (wtf where you thinking eb?)

Dozens of Updates for you~

A beginner will tend to use RTP, while an advanced user will make their own graphics and an intermediate is expected to tweak/modify the graphics. This can be seen as encouragement?

This would only encourage the association of CUSTOM GRAPHICS/MUSIC SYSTEM~ = good game. That is a terrible association.

Seconded -.- *rant start*
It's kind of narrow minded to think that only begginers will go for stock graphics and musics. Those are not aspects that make a good (or expert made, or whatever) game. Considering the vast majority of the projects are non-commercial and a hobby, I feel it's normal that the developer will excel at his AREA OF EXPERTISE. If that area is art and he manages to do a lot of custom stuff? Great. But it's kind of discriminating to dismiss developers who can't or won't go into material customization for whatever reason. A game with godly graphics and a horrible story and writing is not a good game by itself.

tl;dr Yeah, custom stuff, specially graphics, are showy and a good way to grab attention, and usually require an amount of work that can tip you towards the developer's skill, but saying RTP=newbie is kinda offensive to the people who stick to it becuase they're not proficient in custom stuff.
.

*rant over*
And about the tags, as a voluntary behaviour of "I'm a begginer, so please be nice", the idea sounds good, but I don't think it merits a change in the current system. (Except for maying making space for the Begginer/whatever badge)

Someday I will part my lips from Atlus' nethers.

The Screenshot Topic Returns

@Craze: Tremian is empty because the original had a rather lively market in the center aound the fountain (in the VX version). Since I stuck to the default tilesets in Ace to port it, I had no TABLES or merchandise of any sort to decorate it with, to my frustration. I'll probably just cheat and edit a tileset to incorporate freaking TABLES (seriously enterbrain, what do you have aganist tables?) and market stuff.

@Sinister As much I wish my mapping was good, it's more "functional" with SLIGHTLY nice designs at most. Everytime I start getting my ego up, someone comes across with a screenshot that punches me back down to humility. (It's a good thing, but ONE DAY I SHALL WIN THAT PUNCHOUT D<)

Wahh my maps are being in use! \;-;/

The Screenshot Topic Returns

I'm just gonna sneak in here and...yeah, dump some stuff. Feedback is much appreciated ;-;

Note: These are all done with the default Ace RTP on PURPOSE (actually it was the requirement), therefore they have no customs (It's for a map donation pack of sorts)

This is Dermod's Capital, Tramian:
(My main project's location, ported to ace. I had to do away with the market at the fountain to follow a strict RTP only style, which is why it looks kinda empty now.)

This is the lake town of Lachlan
(A sword goes into the altar to the left, and the church is the oldest building and holds a bell, which is kinda important)

A vampire-ruled town in Rumen
(Vampires here are pretty much just old snooty music lovers, the big building is a music school)

The hunter's village of Calren
(The bare area at the bottom right is an archery training area of sorts. I modified one of the RTP sample maps for this one (basic structure))

Also, Indra, I hope that my criticism was helpful and sorry it took so much pestering to get me to play your test build ;_;

No! I shall never forgive you for making me stalk you for testing the demo! Like everyone else that I have given it to! How dare you have a life outside testing my stuff! How dare youuuu! XD

But seriously, I'm more worried about being TOO MUCH OF A PEST with the "give me MOARR feedback" once the testing is DONE that waiting for it to be tested (within reasonable limits, obviously, havign me wait for a month will make anyone antsy). And it's a very serious isse, because by nature I want LOTS OF FEEDBACK EVERY SINGLE TIME I MAKE SOME PROGRESS (yeah, I partially want praise and parially want it destroyed so I can pinpoint what doesn't work) so I get the nagging feeling that I'm beign a freaking pest..

Lorelai, Queen

Actually, we did work around that somewhat by by making levels a very minor bonus (max level is around 10, and only Lorelai is in every fight, the rest of the party differs quite a bit from chapter to chapter). Levels only net a very slight stat increase and MAYBE a skill at some point (nothing vital, probably just a bonus).
The idea was to have titles and equipment (rare) do the real of stat variation, but that's yet to be implemented.
By balancing I meant that the IDEA is to have combat be challenging to make up for the lack of TIMES it pops up. To have every battle be its own boss, so to speak. The demo is not there yet XD. I simply meant to say that balancing challenging but not going into CHEAP is going to be tricky (I admit fiddling with number isn't what I'm best at, which is why I'm having a friend help me with most of it). The demo was not really designed to be challenging yet.

But thanks for the input anyway, will keep it in mind :3

Origin

That...that sounds both wonderful and horrible. I will ahve to wait for the final release...? OTL
ANWYAY! There will be penises touching, and that's what's important! D< If I get really desperate I will make my own Orion/Grant yaoi game (as planned >D)
