Infinite: Ooh, I haven't seen a jumping game where there's a delay in activation of the upward thrust. Interesting! I assume you can move the bird left and right? That ought to add a layer of strategy and forward thinking to bomb placement.

Thanks! I don't have any plans to make the bird move left or right, at least for this version. There are some other obstacles and challenges though.

Trying to juggle the chicken into the sky and tapping balloons in between bombs is the main loop. You can see a little purple balloon float up, they appear after 15ft, and other dangerous balloons appear the higher you get. Thinking up some other things too.

It'll be playable on Google marketplace as soon as it's ready and I finish all the online paperwork.

A small project I hope to have published on mobile very soon.

The gif is kinda funky, and I'm not sure how to set a portrait resolution for a PC build, but it's a WIP.

@SgtMettool I think it looks good. I appreciate the consistency of the style.

I also like the "whether people like it or not" attitude.

[RMVX ACE] Is giving a game Atari 2600 style graphics a good idea?

I think it's a good idea if Atari style graphics inspire and motivate you. Do you want to make something you don't care for, just to make other people happy.

If everyone in this thread tells you to do 16-bit Final Fantasy whatever style graphics, but you just really want to make an Atari game, then I think you should make your Atari 2600 style game.

I don't think it's cluttered... but I'm a little bothered by the perspective shift/line-angle at the back of the room.

you pretty much have to change it since I worked so hard show this example.

@Infinite: Every time you post a screenshot it looks like your game has gone through eight months of intensive development. It just keeps looking better and better! I think the art style is great as it is now.

So glad to hear/read this! Thanks!

@Byah, I like where you're going visually... The pink tree tiles kinda look like mushrooms. Not sure if that's what you were going for. I do like the rest of the colors though!

\/\/\/ This one is cooler, but it's big!

Still developing mechanics and art style. Haven't settled on a story yet, still cooking.

There's a bit of pixels clash in that(as in, 2x2 pixels with 1x1 pixels)and it's pretty noticeable. Maybe you could try using 1x1 sprites and resizing the screen to 2x2 instead? Otherwise, looking real nice!

All the pixels are scaled up from 1:1 to something like 1:4 by unity... I'm still learning best practices for dealing with pixel art with unity. There's some trickery involved for getting it set up properly, and I don't think I did it correctly, but I don't want to drive myself crazy trying to be 100% authentic. Things in the game world move between pixels so everything is really smooth, but sometimes the pixels just don't line up and I end up with those sub-pixel issues. The font's have been troublesome because their size is determined by the game's resolution.

But thanks for the feedback guys!

I like the style of those sprites Frogge. Here's another kind of Froggy...
