LOCKEZ'S PROFILE
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

The Unofficial Squaresoft MUD is a free online game based on the worlds and combat systems of your favorite Squaresoft games. UOSSMUD includes job trees from FFT and FF5, advanced classes from multiple other Square games, and worlds based extremely accurately upon Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, and Final Fantasies 5, 6, and 7. Travel through the original worlds and experience events that mirror those of the original games in an online, multiplayer format.
If a large, highly customized MUD, now over 10 years old and still being expanded, with a job system and worlds based on some of the most popular console RPGs seems interesting to you, feel free to log on and check it out. Visit uossmud.sandwich.net for information about logging on.

YDS' Let's Try Thread
The HARD thing, I admit, is being able to look past the overwhelming negativity in what she's saying, it'll seem like it's impossible to hook someone who's picking apart little details
I haven't seen a single LT that I would call overwhelmingly negative. Or even vaguely negative. I haven't watched all of them, but I've watched a bunch of LTs (by YDS and other people) of both good and bad games, and they are full of all extremely good advice. It is way more enjoyable for me to see someone telling me how to improve than to see them just frolicking through it obliviously. People playing my game doesn't help me at all unless they tell me how to improve it.
My only problem with LTs is that I wish they would continue to the end of the game. Most RPGs - amateur or otherwise - don't really pick up until hours into the game, when the gameplay has developed to its full complexity. Personally I am conditioned to ignore the first few hours of any game when evaluating it, because I know the gameplay will get more depth later.

Hey LockeZ. I actually did your game because you requested it a long time ago but to be honest I didn't upload it because a lot of it was just profanity because I just didn't really "click" with the humor in the game.
Eh, I'd still probably learn something from watching it. But if it's not something you want to upload then that's fine. I should probably just quit asking for one. One of the main things my game has going for it is being nearly commercial length, and I'm not sure how many really want to upload an 80-part Let's Try.

Hmm. But most of the new and popular ones already have LTs done by other people.
Honestly I wish there was just one big Let's Try topic for everyone, so we could all easily cross-reference which games had been done already, and people could make general requests if they didn't want to ask a specific person. I tried to start such a topic when the whole LT thing was starting but then everyone ignored it and made their own, and now we have well over a dozen topics and it's a pain in the ass.
Maybe LTs should be on game pages...

Hey YDS, can you do a Let's Try of my game Vindication at some point? It is kind of an older game so no rush.
I kind of want to do some Let's Try videos myself, but, like you, I don't want to just pick random games. And it seems like all the new games get snatched up pretty quickly by other people anyway. How do you get so many requests? Teach me how to be popular!

Making a custom font

http://fontstruct.fontshop.com/Use this, I used it for my Typography Module. It's pretty good.
This is fucking amazing and you are a genius. Mad props. My awesome font is now complete.
Too bad this site doesn't have an actual resources database where I can upload these totally sweet Chrono Trigger fonts I just made. Oh well, you guys can download the truetype and monospaced versions from this forum topic if you want to use either of them in your games. I'll submit it to the resources sections of HBGames and RRR, I guess.

Lowering your standards and finishing your game

Probably because then they never get finished. And new shiny games need to be worked on.
Sometimes its just best to leave past projects in the past.
Pfft
PFFT, I say. I am making scoffing noises at you.
pfft pfft pfft pfffffffffft
Would you throw your son or daughter in the dumpster just because you realized you can raise a better one if you try again? My games are my babies. I'm not going to abandon my baby when I can improve it instead. And besides, everyone loves expansion packs.
Lowering your standards and finishing your game
With a homebrewed hobby game, I don't actually see any reason not to go back later and add the things you didn't get to add before. They say an artist can keep improving the same painting his entire life. I've done this quite a few times with my games.
Custom Charecter help
Well that's easy. The battle animation is a .bmp instead of a .png. Just save the .png version instead of the .bmp version.
And the charset is zoomed in, because you downloaded the 3x zoomed image instead of the original size image, and it's also not on a 288 X 256 image. Easiest way is to download it from the charas generator site, then edit the image in iDraw or Gimp or Photoshop or whatever image editor you want to use that isn't MS Paint, and increase the dimensions to 288 x 256.

The dumbest idea you ever tried to make
Ah, that explains it. First RM games are almost always incredibly bad.
Mine involved two friends named Jesse and James who formed a group of heroes named Team Rocket to fight against an evil demonic empire. They carried around roses, had a dog named Rocket, had a jetpack named Team Rocket's Rocket, used a meowth blimp as an airship, and recited a lengthened version of the Team Rocket motto in almost every single cut scene.
That was actually one of the better aspects of the game.
