LOCKEZ'S PROFILE
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

The Unofficial Squaresoft MUD is a free online game based on the worlds and combat systems of your favorite Squaresoft games. UOSSMUD includes job trees from FFT and FF5, advanced classes from multiple other Square games, and worlds based extremely accurately upon Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, and Final Fantasies 5, 6, and 7. Travel through the original worlds and experience events that mirror those of the original games in an online, multiplayer format.
If a large, highly customized MUD, now over 10 years old and still being expanded, with a job system and worlds based on some of the most popular console RPGs seems interesting to you, feel free to log on and check it out. Visit uossmud.sandwich.net for information about logging on.

some help for vx needed
"Coolest" is not a good measure of quality. What you ought to be looking for is "most appropriate for the gameplay ideas I have in mind," followed by a list of said ideas. And possibly also "least buggy."
I wouldn't use VX instead of XP if you paid me, so I can't really recommend any good VX scripts. I just wanted to correct your mindset and ask what you are trying to make, so someone else can help you better.

HP Recovery... after every battle? MADNESS! (Resource Management)
I disagree that it makes the game more challenging. In fact, it forces you to make the individual battles far less challenging, because the player has to be able to survive a dozen or more of them. With full recovery after every battle, I can make every single battle in the game a boss battle.
I don't see how it's any more or less realistic. In your game the player is going to be healing between battles too. It's just going to cost money. In my game, apparently the hero has a reusable first-aid kit that takes too much time to apply for it to be usable in the middle of a fight. Is that really less realistic than healing only with magical potions?

Swamp zombie apocalypse! Your daughter went to the town to get supplies, but when she came back, you find out she's been bit by a zombie. Now you have three days to find a cure, or else she turns.
I have a better idea. It starts out with this plot, but then the screen fades to black and says "Three Days Later." Now you play as the daughter, and the game's primary goal is to find your father and eat his brains.
YDS' Let's Try Thread
Hey YDS, I would love if you would do this for my game Vindication. I love getting feedback, as I often use it to improve aspects of my game despite it being finished over a year ago, and am also working on a new project which could greatly benefit from any sort of commentary about my existing work. I also am the kind of person who doesn't understand the concept of being offended, so I'm monumentally unlikely to get angry about anything you say! I am watching some of your videos now and they seem like exactly the sort of thing that would be insanely helpful to me.
Marrend's Review thread
I'm going to request a review on my game Vindication, for two reasons:
1) It has over 500 downloads, but no reviews, and very little discussion about quality or gameplay.
2) I'm in the planning stages of a new game that will be similar in a lot of ways, though the gameplay will be a lot more complex. So I would benefit immensely from any sort of detailed feedback about Vindication.

Recommend me some good completed indie rpgs please
Nah, it makes sense. I mean, I understand that players want to play certain types of games, and we don't necessarily have the ability to search for the things you care about, nor do most of these games have enough reviews for you to make an educated decision. Sometimes you will get a hard time for it on these forums, because they're full of developers, so trying to find a game that matches your interests basically requires telling a developer you're not interested in the type of game they made. But that's just something you have to expect, it's nothing personal.
Edit: Also, yes, I'm completely fuckin' shameless. Woo.

HP Recovery... after every battle? MADNESS! (Resource Management)
In my upcoming RMXP game, I'm making full recovery happen after every battle. I'm also not including any random battles - or any repeatable battles. My basic premise is that I hate repetition. And so if a player has proven he or she can win this battle, he or she should not have to do it again.
So, what that means is that every single battle in the game is going to be different. In that the game is planned to be about the same length as a Final Fantasy game, this could prove a challenging rate to maintain, but at the same time it should provide me with enough diversity to keep battle design from ever getting stale. And also provide the player with enough diversity to keep battles from ever getting stale.
To address the other con, I still plan to have some resource management challenges. They'll just be very long battles where enemies continue appearing mid-battle. There won't be as many as in a game where every dungeon is a challenge of resource management, but that's fine, since I find this type of challenge much less enjoyable than fighting for my life.
I'm not yet sure if I'll have potions or other consumable items. I was thinking I would, until reading this topic. Now I'm not sure - since they're basically just a form of MP.

So basically someone gave you some maps and you don't know what to do with them. If it were an addition to an existing story, I could help you. But to write the entire outline of your main plot, based on absolutely no premise? You're on your own there. It could be - literally - any conceivable story in the universe. You have absolutely NOTHING to build off of.
Come back when you have some ideas, and maybe I can help you refine them. But I'm not just going to write a plot for you in a forum post. Hire a writer if you want a story and can't make one. I'm sure there are plenty of people who want to tell a story in an RPG but don't have the technical knowledge to make a decent game. What you need is not just an idea to get you started, but a staff member for your project.

You Have Two Hundred Words
Excuse me, I take offense to your suggestion that I'm not really as incompetent as Craze thinks. I'm plenty incompetent.
Players x Experts - Our attitude on playing games
I posted it in this topic because it's intricately linked to the process by which we view games as we play them and by which we provide feedback or comments for those games. If I know my feedback is likely to actually be taken into account by the developer and possibly result in a future update which addresses it, I will provide lots of feedback with lots of detail. If the game seems to be "abandoned" then I will not bother. I also might not even bother playing it, since as a game designer, I instinctively enjoy trying to make games better - even other people's.
