It's not a 4X4 in RPG maker MV.... it's 2x2.. or 3x3 tiles but with the outer tiles being smaller than the center tile.
I appreciate the feedback folks, but a repeating pattern is fine IMO.. lots of games have obvious repeats and I don't recall anyone calling up Nintendo or Sega back in the day telling them "stop having such obvious repeats!"..
I think it's good.
Thanks to the feedback i got, i think my grass and outer coasts look a lot cooler.

@MarkusT:
I understand the frustration with the 2x2 autotile; I tried converting some autotiles from an old project as a test and was immediately annoyed at how much more difficult it was to use them correctly without bits clipping in where they didn't belong. Can't you shift+click to place tiles without interfering with the autotiles, though? I don't have that much experience with RMVX, but it seems like it might make sense to use the autotiles and then shift+click new, flat-edged dirt tiles wherever there is a long run of tiles (to avoid the jagged bits).

I have tried a lot of things... honestly, I think I will just stick with how it is now... sure it has the repeated bumps... but it is just a game.. a lot of 2D games of old have obvious repeating things going on.. it's still a big improvement over the default tiles.
MV is a huge pain in the ass..
I'm just going to leave it like it is.. it's not perfect no.. but i'm trying to keep the workload to a minimum.
I wish some programing genius would just come up with a plugin for MV... so like, during gameplay it calls a proper 3X3 auto tile sheet and displays it more properly during gameplay so you CAN have better more .. organic looking auto tiles.. rather than squared.. but so far every time i make a suggestion for any auto tile plugins, I am met with hostility.... happens with every suggestion i make for plugins that would help with MV limitations or graphics effects.
Thanks for the feedback folks, but i think i am happy for how it is now.

I think it looks neat.
At first I thought I was looking at an actual thing taken from the actual EarthBound games.

@Markus:
I can only speak for myself, but I have no problem with the colours of the dirt. While the MV RTP is not very good, in this case the autotile doesn't visibly tile quite so badly.

Look at this:

This is not good. This is shouting "look at how tiled I am!". It completely disrupts the natural flow of the tile. I do like the shadow of the grass (to give it depth) and I think it's a big improvement, but these repeating, pointy grass bits need to go. They look fine as individual tiles, but as repeating edge pieces of an autotile they don't work.
Sadly, that is a side effect of a stupid ass decision by Kadokawa to design auto tiles the way they have.
The repeating points can NOT be fixed, if I remove the points you're speaking of, it will cause the corners to become more squared... it's how the auto tiles are set up.. you either have very f**king squared looking auto tiles, or you add angular corners which in turn cause those repeated points that are being pointed out.
So since sorry, I F**CKING HATE the squared assed look kadokawa wants to go with when it comes to auto tiles.
I got complaints before how the dirt was too like.. rounded and they needed changed up, so I changed it up to what they are.. so people need to make up their f**king minds!
I'm not mad at you or anyone else here.. I am PISSED at kadokawa for insisting on the same god damn auto tile setup that's f**cking been around since RPG Maker VX.
If Kadokawa would just f**king make them 3 by 3 tiles again, you would not get that repeating sharp thing, and I could have my landscapes NOT be f**king blocky and squared as F**KING hell like an old god damn dragon quest game on the SNES!
Look back at the way i did the dirt prior to that... it was smooth.. their will ALWAYS be a weird repeat of bumps or points because of how god damn difficult it is to f**king work with the f**cking auto tiles... UGH!!
I'm angry cause it's frustrating me.. I have different people pointing out different "problems" and when i fix one issue, it causes another issue...
I can't win for losing.
I miss XP's 3x3 tile set up for auto tiles... it was easy in XP to avoid a blocky auto tiles... MV SHOULD HAVE gotten rid of that retarded assed set up they have... technically it's still made 3x3 but only the center tile is 48pixels wide and tall... the 2 side ones are 48 tall 24 wide... the one at the top is 48 wide and 24 tall.. and the corner ones are 24 tall 24 wide... because of this weird ass setup... making anything NOT blocky results in a repeat of a pattern on the top and sides.. so it's either blocky effing auto tiles.. or i give it the corners i want but end up with the repeat being pointed out here as an issue...
I dunno what to do short of tossing MV and telling Kadokawa to get their s**t together.
-edit-
Sorry for blowing up...
I been struggling with this sort of stuff awhile now.. even I see the issue... everything I try just sorta ends up looking bad in some way... so I sorta just gotta pick what sort of annoyance I want in the graphics.. squared, or obvious repeats..

@Markus:
I really like the mountains. They have an interesting, smoothy cartoony feel to them. Any particular reason you love the grass so much?

edit: The pointy bits on the dirt autotile are too noticeably tiled. Soften them just a bit!

I think I FINALLY get what folks mean by sharp in the dirt paths.
It's actual an existing tile pattern I re colored, but it looked boring to me so I used photoshop to give it a POP effect... and I think it's that POP effect I gave it is what people are pointing out.
The entire tileset is in fact meant to look a bit old school, a bit simple... with colors that pop.. that was my intent.
Most of the games I play are from the genesis and SNES.
As for why I love the grass so much, I worked on that grass tile for freaking hours, trying to get it how I got it.. It stands out already, I did not want to have to stress anymore while working on it, it's the one thing I can look at and go "yes, exactly how I want it! I LOVE IT!".
The dirt and seeing the repeats is actually REALLY funny to me because as I stated before, it's ACTUALLY an existing graphic from the MV overworld tileset that I re-fashioned. lol >_<
If those are the only complaints, I think I'm done here.. BUT I can EASILY remove that "pop!" I gave them in photoshop if folks REALLY think it will look better.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by too sharp.

I actually really like the mountains. I know you mentioned fixing the autotiles, but it looks like you swapped MV's square look for a circular look. It works with the water, but the way grass/dirt/sand connect could be a bit more rough.

Otherwise, nice looking tiles :)

edit: quoting the last image since I'm top of page and have nothing of my own to show D:
I get EXACTLY what you mean, And I THINK I know a way to rough it up a bit.
You can see that, it is WAY too rounded, I will work on that man.. I have some ideas on how to fix that... here's hoping I can make it work.

-UPDATED-
And here we go!

I did away with the cloudy blending between the sand and grass and dirt and instead gave it a rougher like.. outline.. and I added some shading outside to make the grass pop, and the dirt now sinks into the grass a bit more..
I'm still not happy with the trees...

Screenshot Survival 20XX

So... this is a tileset I'm working on for my game.. I made the grass, the sand for the coasts the coasts themselves and the mountains.
The dirt trails are just an edit from some MV tiles that already exist.
It's not complete, as I plan to make custom trees.. MAYBE custom water.. the water is existing water I just did some coloring.
I'm struggling with fixing auto tiles as I can't stand MVs squared look...
It is VERY annoying..
And I know it is not perfect... and I realize more needs done with it.
Before folks give feedback, keep in mind, I love the grass, I have no intent on changing it for ANY reason.. so just keep that one little thing in mind.
As for the mountains and everything else.. even i'm looking at it going "ehhh.... uhh... ugh" I'm just not sure what do... I suck at this high rez 48x48 tile art... I miss the 16 bit era.. I miss 16x16 lol.
I'm sure I could do better mountains... but I won't mess with them until I get some feedback... if folks think they look bad, I will make something better.
Oh and sorry about the big image... I can't get spoilers to work..

@MarkusT: You use the hide tags with and . The sprites do remind me of classic FF styled sprites, though those remind me a bit more of the iOS sprites than the original, for obvious reasons~

I could show a side by side comparison of those sprites, trust me they don't look as much like the iOS/android ones as you might think.
I even had a discussion with the folks over at RMW about it.
I think i did FAR better than the ones used in the mobile version.. mine are little closer to the original 16 bit sprites.
I plan to use them in a game i plan to sell.
I had to ask the folks over at RMW if they looked too much like something by squeenix, and they said no, and the fact that i hand drew them helps.
I can't stand the battle sprites that come with MV, they just don't appeal to me.
Plus, it's better when selling a game to try and not use anything graphically or audio wise that comes WITH the maker it's self, because i noticed on steam when they try and greenlight a game, people do complain if it looks too much like an RPG Maker game.. it's a bit of a put off it seems for folks.

Screenshot Survival 20XX

This is early work on my game.
I'm rather proud of my battle sprites.
I was wanting to invoke a response of "hey they look like they're from FF6!"when i started working on them.

The monster is just a placeholder, as i plan to try drawing my monsters.. and i need to gain an understanding of creating battlebacks.
I'm also looking for feedback on the window graphics, input on that would be rather appreciated on that as well.
(I don't remember how to do a spoiler!)
