The next RPG Maker

I won't sit here and go on and on about why I can't script.
But trust me I can't.
I have an easier time making art than doing scripting.
It would be nice to be able to convince someone to help with scripting, but in my experience that's been like looking for a needle in a haystack.

The next RPG Maker

No... if you read my entire comment, you would know I said I'm sick of scripting, and I rather have point and click drag and drop options.
Scripting to me was a bad idea from the get go.
Which is also why I mentioned what I mentioned about 2K3.
This entire thread is about posting what you would like to see, not having folks fire back and tell you why your thoughts are wrong.
Yeesh.

The next RPG Maker

I want to be able to customize more things with simple point and click and drag and drop options.
Scripting pisses me off because I can't script, and when you rely on other people's scripts, you get all sorts of sh*t about "not for commercial use" GAHH F that!
I feel like scripting was a bad idea from the get go.
I like RM2K3 the most honestly, but even it has things about it that piss me off and I feel should be expanded on.
Like more font options, more colors and more customization for battle systems.
Like I said before, I get tired of the scripting scene... it's a BIG pain in the ass!
Also, the small screen space is annoying.. you can't do wide screen without some kinda script or hacking or tinkering with the software which EB has a big issue with.
I'm not sure what they plan to do, but I hope it's better than the approach they've been taking.
Anyhow, that's just how I feel about it.

The official English 2k3 version is out!

I'm sort of hoping that the next RPG Maker is more like 2K3, but .. ya know.. better. Maybe a wide screen aspect ratio, for a change.

Just bought the legal 2k3. Shit, it's been a while since I booted this stuff up:

The first time this game has been played on a legal version of the engine. Brings back memories of the good (bad?) old days.

I am not looking for critique or anything, this version of this game has been dead for years upon years. This is just the best place to share the memories with screens attached.

Looks like Treasure of Rudras to me.
Then again i guess all the sprites might have just been ripped from it.

Making Pictures from Other Pictures, Legal?

It almost sounds like you're talking about frankenspriting.
Taking something existing and making changing it until it looks like something new.
That's something i tend to do a lot.
Altering it until it looks different.
I'm bad about finding an existing style, and mimicking it.
Making something new but in style of something that exists already.

The official English 2k3 version is out!

Ugh.. get so sick of the SNES excuse.
I end making custom tilesets that leave out objects for some things, like for my maps i end up using events.
But having to do any sort of work around pisses me off...
Please for the love of god i hope the next RPG Maker does not force me to use work-arounds for anything..

The official English 2k3 version is out!

No, their is no "on the other hand"not for me personally anyhow.
Sadly I may just keep using ACE until the next one comes along, and I hope it ends up being what I am looking for, and if not.. there is always RPG20XX being worked on.
2K3 would need a lot of enhancements for me to wanna a jump back to using it, as creatively I feel held back in what ever I make.

[RM2K3] What do you like best about 2k3?

It's hard to say... I prefer 16 bit over the 32 bit that XP and Ace use ... in other-words 16x16 VS 32x32.
But without being able to use more than 256 colors, the tilesets I make look like crap as I am used to using a lot of color and shading even in 16x16 tiles.
One thing irking me when I bring it up is people telling me there's no point having more than 256 colors, and I STRONGLY disagree.
Really hoping the next RPG Maker goes back to smaller resolutions..
I feel 2003 should have just kept being expanded on over the years.

The official English 2k3 version is out!

As someone who bought the offical japanese version years ago, BOXED I have had years to mess with it, but some things about it irk me to no end.
The main things irking me are the 256color limit, and being forced to us an ATB, as well as no way to do custom fonts, and no way to use custom icons ... actually there are quite a few things irking me.
No loop points for MP3s bugs me to.
2K3 is that sort of engine where.. it's okay.. but for something truly professional, I feel better of using XP or Ace.

I went back to using 2K3 recently after buying the english version on steam, just to find myself getting pissed immensely at the limits in color use and no way to do alpha blending.
And it mainly bugs me with tile sets I think.
Shame we can't see upgrades to this engine over time, but according to folks over at RPGMAKERWEB, that's not likely and patches and mods are not allowed... which is BS to me.
