The first Golden Compass book. Never bothered reading it until now.

RM RPGs...you have beaten

I just finished MsGee's Backstage. Wow. That was a freaking fun game. Gonna write a review for it sometime this week. Good work, Max!

[Advert] Myth Xaran (Coming winter/spring 2009 quarter)

This game looks unbelievably good. The more I read about it, the more I want to play it. You obviously have a very professional attitude, and are approaching this with the kind of passion I love to see in Game Designers. The screen-shots are gorgeous for being an RPGMaker 2003 game, and the story seems to be original and interesting. I'd like to offer more than just fluffy words though, so I'll shoot you some real critiques, etc, when a playable is available!

Good luck!

have you ever lost hope in your project

I'm scared of criticism and what people think of my games, but I make my games for fun, and to prepare me of a career in Game Design, if I choose that path. I take the criticism, and that's one reason why I have 5 other games coming out for the series. With people talking about mapping or story elements, I just incorporate that into the next game and hope for the better. There is never a game that everyone will love so much that they can't find anything wrong with it. Like the saying, "Nobody's Perfect," There's "No game is perfect the first time." Huh

Well said. If you cannot take criticism with maturity, and cannot learn from that criticism, then you'll never grow as a Game Designer. However, it's important to know when someone is being critical of your game (as in objective) and when they are just tearing it down because they don't like it. The hardest thing in the world is to accept the fact that not everyone will like your work. To add onto what you said, "No game is perfect, ever". Someone, somewhere, will always have bad things to say about your games.

Change class and party in 2k3

I'm not good with events like that, so can anyone give me a brief "tutorial" of classes and how I can successfully change them?

Well, if I'm understanding your predicament properly, it seems that you want to be able to change classes of various party members, and have the class they change be dependent on the gender of the character. So, for the example I give, I'll assume you have four characters in your party, two males and two females.

Also, forgive me for writing this in psuedocode. I do not have RPG Maker in front of me and I do not remember the exact names of the commands in the event editor window.

Start of Character Change Event:
>Choice: Select Character
>>Male 1
>>>Choice: Select Class
>>>>Class 1
>>>>>Change Class: Male 1, Class1Male
>>>>Class 2
>>>>>Change Class: Male 1, Class2Male
>>>>Class 3
>>>>>Change Class: Male 1, Class3Male
>>>>Class 4
>>>>>Change Class: Male 1, Class4Male
>>Male 2
>>>Choice: Select Class
>>>>Class 1
>>>>>Change Class: Male 2, Class1Male
>>>>Class 2
>>>>>Change Class: Male 2, Class2Male
>>>>Class 3
>>>>>Change Class: Male 2, Class3Male
>>>>Class 4
>>>>>Change Class: Male 2, Class4Male
>>Female 1
>>>Choice: Select Class
>>>>Class 1
>>>>>Change Class: Female 1, Class1Female
>>>>Class 2
>>>>>Change Class: Female 1, Class2Feale
>>>>Class 3
>>>>>Change Class: Female 1, Class3Feale
>>>>Class 4
>>>>>Change Class: Female 1, Class4Feale
>>Female 2
>>>Choice: Select Class
>>>>Class 1
>>>>>Change Class: Female 2, Class1Female
>>>>Class 2
>>>>>Change Class: Female 2, Class2Feale
>>>>Class 3
>>>>>Change Class: Female 2, Class3Feale
>>>>Class 4
>>>>>Change Class: Female 2, Class4Feale

As you can see, you will need to create 8 classes for this logic to work: Class1Male, Class2Male, Class3Male, Class4Male, Class1Female, Class2Female, Class3Female, and Class4Female.

Now, if you want to have every single Class for every single character look different, like how it is in Final Fantasy V, you will need to create versions of each class for every single character, such as: Class1Male1, Class2Male1, Class3Male1, Class4Male1, Class1Male2, Class2Male2, Class3Male2, Class4Male2, Class1Female1, Class2Female1, Class3Female1, Class4Female1, Class1Female2, Class2Female2, Class3Female2, and Class4Female2.

Just plug those in to the above logic and have fun!

Keep in mind that when you change class, you have to set how your experience level changes, and if you lose any skills. Even then, you'll need to store the experience a character has gained (since his last level up) prior to class change in a variable, then put that experience back in that character. This is because even if you do not specify a drop back to level 1, they still lose all the experience that they gained since their last level up.

Hope that helps!

Worst sickness thing

Asthma. Freaking sucks when you want to go out and play, or want to hit the gym, or want to do just about anything, and instead you just stop breathing can't breathe very deep breaths. Now that I'm older, it's not as bad. But it'll be with me the rest of my life.

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

Well what game(s) are you playing at the moment?
