Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!
What is a hobby you've always wanted to explore?
Ohh you are all so normal! : D
My hobbys are console-gaming, pixel art / illustration and art in general - but what I'd like to get more into is anime-figures, sculpting, BJDs, cosplay and LARP. XD
But that's all very money- and time- consuming.
Maybe I'll visit a LARP this year tho...

Thou who enters, let all hope go, for there is no way to un-see the horrors!
j/k - here's the mockup of a recently finished pixel-graphics -commission for a customer's game-in-progress. ( the idea is, to shoot a bullet and it gets deflected by obstacles until it hits a target. )

took me over 2 months to complete (there are 3 more character sprites aside from those seen on this mockup; and they are all fully animated)
fortunately, they're satisfied with it and happy. ^^
the character designs all have been developed in close collaboration with the customer and his concept ideas.
How badly could you fuck up the world in your current position in life?
i could... blow people's minds with the... sealed secret shockingly contents of my mind. o_O i guess?
How important are: PLOT TWISTS?
Thanks for all your interesting comments, opinions and examples on this topic. : ) It's really nice to read all this. Especially observations from other famous games / movies as examples and your feel on it are interesting and, I think, helpful.
That's a powerful statement, too. In the end I suppose it depends on what the individual game maker / prot writer is better in constructing, too.
@LockeZ : I had a good feeling, when reading your explanation with Barret as example, too. : ) Cool, when you think about it.
author=]Games do not need a plot twist to be good. A game can work with or without one if both the writing and the gameplay* are good; if I'm having fun then I'm not going to care if the plot never becomes more complex than "Your princess is in another castle". [/quote

How important are: PLOT TWISTS?
" He..... he actually was the villain the whole time!"

This topic is to discuss the importance of a complex, winding or surprising storyline in todays's RPG adventures.
I have the feeling that in modern storytelling, there always has to be a plot twist either at the end of, or shortly before the end of the adventure. I think that puts a lot of pressure on the game designer because, well that's what's expected! It's not about saving the princess and live happily ever after anymore.
Or can there still be a good game without a dramatic plot-twist?
Pokemon games mostly don't have a plot twist, I admit. But sales aside, I don't really consider those "good games" ^^; (sorry..) I mean - well X and Y were like 'the guy with the weird hair you talked to a few times, actually turns out to be the villain' - okay, yeah, but that's not much of a plot twist ^^; everyone could see that coming.
How do you guys go about building story arcs? How important is it for you, and how do you think you can surprise and shock the player that has years of gaming experience?

Heh, it's okay.. my Milka is actually only -pronounced- Milka, but spelled Miruka. So.. meh. : p And, it's a cow-girl, not a human girl.

Large Numbers: Gold edition! (and item pricing)
author=RyaReisender
One thing I want to add to this topic, is however, that many people do the mistake to scale exp similar to gold. This is NOT good. Exp should basically be an exponential curve,
Hehe.. in the large chatdice /pen&paper RPG I made, monsters drop exactly 100% of their max HP in currency XD you'd probably go insane playing that. But it really works out well - in THAT world. Not saying it'd work out as well in any other world.
But in that specific fantasy world it's convenient and works - especially since you have to play, and share money with other players all the time.
Aside from that, the high "Gold" number in JRPGs comes from the fact that they are, well, J RPGs - meaning the prices are kinda leaned on the japanese Yen... Basically what you could buy for 100 Yen might well cost "100 Gold" in a japanese fantasy game.. : )
On the other hand, in a european game said Item might well only cost " 1 Gold " in a game... so that it makes more sense for western players.
