Discussing Replay Value

Replay value is important when you're deciding whether you'll buy a game or not. You don't want to spend $$$$ on a game you will play for 6 hours and discard it.

I'd rather have a really entertaining 6 hours than a boring filler 40 hour game.

RPG Maker VX Ace

VX was disliked at first because it was lower resolution, had tileset limitations, and the database was extremely lacking compared to XP. Look at where VX is now.
Everyone still complains about these things and we're hoping Ace fixes them but you have to look at Emptybrains track record here. Since 2k3 they haven't made an RPG Maker where they didn't also remove stuff from it, and Indie game maker was even worse and that makes people justifiably worried. If it's been nothing but improvements (or just very minor drawbacks) then we'd only be looking forward to it rather than skeptical.

I mean, I STILL prefer using 2k3 to VX and I'm really only using VX because of the legality issues (because it was brought over here). Plus, they never said any useful features in it so far. If they were like "We heard your concerns and decide to bring back a more powerful mapping system" (they still might, which we hope) as the main feature, I think people would be a lot more enthusiastic than naming their first features stuff that no one really cares about except for RGSS3 (which will for non scripters just inconvenience them instead for a little while).

For those going to mention it... the little girl sprite is SD3 and I do not have any enemy sprites yet so there won't be the resolution clash there.

RPG 20XX Engine

It was updated pretty recently with a bug fix on Begin Jump events and having a picture remain even on the game over screen. But other than that, I don't think too much work was done on RM20XX itself lately so that's why there weren't as much updates. Still, if anyone has bugs to report from trying out RM20XX, feel free to send them to WC on the other sites I guess or on the bug channel (I think there's one, not sure if it's still there).

On another note, Rubi is playable from start to finish on it now.

NPC animations. A nice little touch, or waste of time?

Why not? Extra detail in the world would be great, as long as it fits in and that it doesn't seem like it's the only thing that had work gone into it. But otherwise, I would really wonder why someone would say "no". Even if they did, you would be doing the correct thing by saying "oh well, I'll do it anyway".

It only gets to be a problem again if that's all you're really doing or if you don't finish your game because you obsessively need to add animations to everyone.

:D

I should also say that Rubi is entirely playable in RM20XX. It's not PERFECT (is missing shop/inn) but it works from start to end.

I am aware that the number does not match the style of the other numbers yet, but I can draw numbers now without needing any pictures.

Yeah it's sad, I liked those old mapping contests! ;w;
Oh well, yeah I'll see if he has it then!

I do remember that there was some awesome town shots once apon a time. I'm currently trolling through the archives of SW/GW in search for something else but I'll keep an eye out (they have as far back as 2005 in the Crap Shack so...)

I did a check of JPCs posts but didn't really find anything there. Maybe in the archives though. We'll see, or hopefully someone saved ittt

Awesome Liberty, you rock! Yes I like that one :D

If there's any more of them that'd still be great to have as I remember there being some more too. :3
