Looking at things a bit differently.
The characters choose to fight the final fight for their own reasons. They don't have to fight them plot wise. But they all know if they don't stop them then and there, the world was going to suffer for it; whether it be a gigantic Meteor or time compression. They don't want to have to bear the guilt of knowing they let that happen by just walking away from the enemy's misdeeds. The main villains have hurt most, if not all, characters emotionally and a couple of them physically. It's vengeance for all the people who died because of the C-Virus, it's revenge for their suffering and loss of identity, it's prevention instead of having to find a cure in the future. The final fight is the final fight for a reason; it's the conclusion, the ending. Books don't let you free roam at the end. I look at RPG's, especially JRPG styled ones, as interactive books. The end is the end.
When the credits roll you're meant to have a feeling of satisfaction 'I just completed this'.
What the hell is the point of having a final damn fight if you can continue playing afterwards? No. That was the biggest thing I -hated- about Final Fantasy XIII and why I haven't bothered to finish it yet. I play games for stories. I make games for stories. Gameplay should be good, yes, but it all should be covered before the final fight. Cosplay Crisis's story is all covered before the final fight. If you want to just finish it go ahead, but most, if not all sidequests are story-related. You don't have to do them, but you can if you want too.
All of my games, all my stories, when it comes to the final confrontation, the ending, it is the ending. Conclusive.
I've covered my reasons. *cough*.

Other than naming one of the final bosses, which happens to bear an eerie resemblance to Squall himself.
+Plus that ring is badass. I have one and it has magic powers.

The game ends when the game ends, but you can still explore everywhere in the world even if you're at the last dungeon. The end is the end imho, it's the end of the story and the reason you're travelling in the first place, I didn't like that about FF13. Especially with how it ended (it made no sense)
And it wouldn't make sense in CC either...

Hmm, could be being cause by a conflict of some sort. Try removing your scripts one at a time and testing to see if errors occur.
I recommend creating a back-up file.
