Is there a way to avoid having to run my images through Photoshop?

oh I didn't realize that was a "really stupid way". Since the name of the topic has to do with avoiding photoshop. Paint uses 1000 times less system resources than photoshop, and I can work way faster in paint for simple pixel editing. You can do the basic pixel contours in paint, thats what I do. Then I open the PNG in Idraw and edit the colors to my exact liking.

After you get a working PNG in rm2k3, then open it in paint and you can edit it. Erase the image and save it as a template, just open this already functioning png image with paint and do your edits. Saving with paint when its an already functioning png works fine for me. I didn't explain that very well but that's what I do.

Starting a new mini-project, VX or XP?

This is the internet, I would hope you wouldn't be intimidated.

VX may have the potential to look more polished per say, but I think you mentioned that you were probably using stock resources. The VX stock resources are FAR from well designed, and are frankly....ugly as hell. not to say the 2k3 rtp is all that great, but at least it has some old school charm. And doesn't look like a really bad free online rpg.




Starting a new mini-project, VX or XP?

Needs(reasons)
-Something I can do a side-view battle system in?
-It doesn't have to do anything complicated - scripts are nice, but if it can do what 2k3 does I'll be happy.
-Something I can pick up and reasonably create a short 1-3 hour game in two months >.>
-Availability of custom resources would be nice (but I'll probably use mostly stock anyway)

If you are honestly trying to make a game by december, I wouldn't recommend learning a new engine. Even if you picked it up really fast, I think two months is just not enough time to experiment and make something you are proud of.

Alas, If its up for professional review, any of the rpg makers might not be the best to display. At least with rm2k3 you can show you are working past limitations, and not just copy and paste scripts that instantly make your game more 'impressive'.

I gave you a simple answer. In my opinion, you should stick with what you know for this deadline anyway.

Custom Menu

Use the Defualt Menu System until you are more familiar with some of the intermediate workings of rm2k3. I'm guessing since you want something along the lines of FF7 menu, the default will have everything that you need for your game AND will actually be functional - which is the key thing.

Breaking/Repairing gear and my issue with it...

it could that be whenever it checks if the item is equipped, it sets it to zero. this is negating the battle command increasing it by one. you shouldn't have to set that variable to zero with fork, it will already be zero. Only reset the variable after repairing.

Videos: problems

What you probably want to do is make a cutscene, make the hero invisable and have the opening map for your game be the first scene in your 'video' and event out the actions etc.

if you are actually talking about a video file, you rm2k3 supports .avi I believe, but I don't recommend doing this. unless you have like a sick custom avi made for your game, but even still. I always hated those.

RM2k3 - Error when trying to apply custom fonts

I get the same error, and have 2k installed.

[Rm2k3] Database Erased

so I opened up my project, and got a stream read error when trying to test play. thats when I noticed all my maps where black. All the resources are still in the project folder and the map files etc, but the database information is all gone and everything is blank.
All the max fields are set to 1 and are empty.

This wouldn't be THAT big of a deal besides losing all my common events : (

anyone know anything about this?
