Something happened to me last night when I was driving home. I had a couple of miles to go. I looked up and saw a glowing orange object in the sky. It was moving irregularly. Suddenly, there was intense light all around. And when I came to, I was home.

Installing untested and unstable kernel, weird, third-party drivers written by 10 years old or compiling one from git repo has always permanently ruined any of my hardware before.
FTFY.

Also somebody hates penguins and obviously chosen some overly complicated distro like gentoo or arch for their first Linux. Dude, get Mandriva, openSuSE or Ubuntu.

Ubuntu is untested and unstable? Well, it wouldn't surprise me.

Sailerius: you forgot to mention that the documentation is often conflicting (and rarely identifies which version of the software to which the documentation applies).

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I remember trying to install a wifi card driver for my mother's laptop on Ubuntu (which just worked on Windows) and the steps in the documentation, when followed, ruined the bootloader. When I went into the IRC to get help, I got bitched out for not knowing that the documentation was out of date and to check some obscure forum post for errata that would have solved my problem.

IMHO GNU/Linux is easier to use than Windows. Just use it and read the documentation and will see why. Windows documentation for specific tech tasks is very brief.

The exact opposite has been true in my experience. Documentation for Linux is sparse, ancient, difficult to find, and frequently inaccurate. The Windows documentation (any Microsoft documentation, really) is in-depth, detailed, and extremely easy to work with.

Also, having worked extensively with just about every OS variant under the sun, no, Linux is not easier to use than Windows, nor is it more stable. Installing Windows has never permanently ruined any of my hardware before.

Your favorite game EVER!

Either Silent Hill 2 or Metal Gear Solid 2. Plenty of people have already made a case for SH2, so I love MGS2 for its incredibly brilliant design, memorable dialog, chilling atmosphere, and rich cultural commentary. In spite of being more than a decade old, it manages to be more relevant to today's society than ever before.

How short is a short game?

Granted, I'm not the best planner, but in therms of RPGs, a short game would be... a game with only one quest/dungeon? (the answer is no, but maybe it is something along that)
Finding Eden had two "dungeons" but each one only took about 5 minutes to complete, plus a short boss. If you have tiers of equipment and skills, you're already in the wrong mindset. A short game needs to be simple and sweet.

What makes him good? If your response includes the words "crazy" or "succeeded," don't bother hitting Submit.
Hahahaha
Take your time coming up with a response. I know it's a pretty difficult question to answer. I won't rush you.

If you don't respect games then idk why you bother making them
Games are horrible, but it doesn't have to be that way! Our willingness to throw mediocrity on a pedestal and consider it the standard to aspire to is the greatest obstacle in our way. Step one to making something good is acknowledging this.

The fact that the best most people can come up with for RPG villains is a merely par example like Kefka is testament to this. The above are reasons for why he's not bad, but there's still nothing about him that takes him from merely okay to decent.

Reject "good for an RMN game." Reject "good for a JRPG." Reject "good for a game." Strive to make something that's good, period, and settle for nothing less.

Remake the Original Final Fantasy...

Why not make an original game instead of plagiarizing?

As far as RPG Maker game villains go, nothing really sticks out to me as most are your typical "taking over the world because this story needs a living antagonist", or they're OP as shit and should otherwise be insurmountable (unless you've got the power of hope and friendship *dry heave*).

I guess what I'm looking for in a villain is someone who truly feels human (even if they're a beastman) and, instead of having endless magical faculties, uses a silver tongue and a clear mind to meet their needs. Frankly, the straight-up insane villain doesn't really cut it with me and I require something more akin to what would happen in the real world (person has some sort of chemical imbalance that numbs the feeling of guilt). They can also have a fair amount of coinage to throw around, like Batman. So yeah, essentially a villainous Batman.

Recommended reading, even if it's not as good as my other article.

So that's exactly the premise behind the game I'm currently working on (Vacant Sky Awakening). It stars a cast of characters over the course of seven years and illustrates their gradual transformation to villainy. It's largely born of the frustration I have with villains that you pointed out: they're always "just born that way" or they "go crazy" or some other lame excuse. Or worse, they're "evil incarnate." Give me a break.

(And if someone calls Kefka a good villain one more time, I'm going to cry in a corner.)

Villainous Event?

I really don't like events that are judged by community vote. Especially if there are a large volume of entries, everyone just plays their friends' games and votes for them.

That said, the event sounds awesome and I hope it gets off the ground.
