You see not a bird but an American lady who likes other ladies. Oscillates between shy as a mouse and babbling violently, seemingly at random.
I like badasses. I like babes. I like badass babes the best. Okay...actually I like doggoes the very best, but I aspire to make games about badass babes is my point.
I use music from bands and artists in the free games I make: the frustrated filmmaker in me is very enamored of scoring scenes with rock'n'roll soundtracks Scorcese or Tarantino style. In addition to being a time honored tradition in cinema, this has a history in AAA videoogames as well (for a really great use of it, see Bioshock: Infinite). If I was a millionaire, I'd totally license these songs so I could actually use them legally.

...I'm?...back?.... (can you sense my certainty?)
What are you thinking about right now?
hey Ark I think I remember you from back in the day
Anyway, I was thinking...I kind of want to make a game about animals, non-anthropomorphic, talking animals with the power of speech, but I want it to be reasonably dark and serious, not some Disney bullshit for children. Okay, sure, but how the hell do I do that? If you have actually read Watership Down et al (I haven't) you're probably qualified to give at least a partial answer.

What are you thinking about? (game development edition)
I'd put it on hiatus instead, Marrend. Nothing lasts forever, not even busy-ness & depression (I also struggle w/ depression as I've probably mentioned at least a couple times).
Anyway, I was thinking about this (open question to everyone):
A) How do you resist the junk-food like chocolate high of starting a new game in favor of the diligence-and-consistency needed to "eat your broccoli" and actually follow-through to finish a game you started and haven't worked on or been enthused about in months? Or am I alone in finding starting new projects a party and following through on established projects a drag?
B) How do you stay in the editor and off the website(s) long enough to get shit done? Especially because at least once an hour when actually devving, you run into something (a resource, a script, a focus-group opinion, w/e) that sends you back to the site(s)?

Flurry of Owls - 2019 Gammak Challenge!
that owl on a segway is...I don't...have words...adequate...to describe how awesome and adorable that is...my favorite part is at the end when the owl is like "fuck the police"
[Poll] Upcoming Chain Game Event - Vote for a Theme! [CLOSED]
I voted for rain based mostly on pragmatism (some of the weather effects indicated seem like they'd be really tricky to pull off or work with, esp. the wildfire and tornado options) but also because I've always enjoyed the mood/atmosphere of having varying levels of rain in my games. I just noticed the "flooding" angle after I voted and while that could be challenging too I also see how it could be really cool. IRL at least drowning is horrifying.
You know what would be awesome? Setting the game on board an actively sinking ship complete with actively panicking crew (inexplicably disappearing and reappearing a la Silent Hill). The derelict ship segment at the end of the newest Resident Evil game was awesome too but that ship was already run aground and all fucked up.
I was going to make a joke about the David Cage/Quantic Dream game "Heavy Rain" (probably the best or at least least bad thing that those guys made) but...I couldn't think of one.
The radiation angle is also really interesting...I would like to see it COMBINED with the supernatural (in a different way than Metro 2033; there's this completely throwaway line in Metro that the nuclear apocalypse blew up the world SO HARD that it blew up heaven and hell too and so ghosts and demons and angels and whatnot are wandering the ruined world; in spite of how incredibly intriguing this premise is, Metro never meaningfully revisits it in either game) rather than replacing the supernatural with mutants and whatnot. This is also kind of one of my fan theories about Twin Peaks: The Return is that the tests at Los Alamos sort of punched a hole in the dimensional fabric, allowing the to come through into our reality. (Although trying to make sense of Twin Peaks is kind of like when you were a kid and you'd spin yourself around really fast in a circle to make yourself dizzy for fun.)
I am on the fence about participating in this. I love Silent Hill with all my black little heart, but "make a Silent Hill inspired game" is a box I've already thoroughly checked in my career as an indie dev, a long, long time ago.

Best event and other 2018 shout-outs
Theme Roulette got my event game front-paged for a few golden moments which was pretty cool; through Swap In The Middle With Too I made my best bud on the site and also some fictional characters I'm borderline obsessed with revisiting.
Tough to call. Also I feel like there's a by-law somewhere that says the Alpacalypse must win by default?
Personal achievement? Uh, I started making RPG Maker games again? Not sure if that's an achievement or backsliding for me lol.

[GUESSING GAME] Secret Santa Sign-ups 2018
coelocanth in case you didn't already see this thought in my status, I was utterly delighted by Phantom Queen it's the best gift I've gotten from anyone in ages and I'm super touched it came from RMN.
I apologize to everyone for my own abject failure as a Santa, I'm glad libby's elves were able to pick up my slack. I had a very rough winter holiday break.

WHY DOES ANIMATING SPRITES HAVE TO BE SO FRUSTRATING!!!
Most likely, because you're still (relatively) bad at pixel art and animation frames are EXTREMELY unforgiving of misplaced pixels because they require, to a certain extent, total perfection; a sprite basically has two states it can be in, "properly animated" or "not". There is no in between, there is no "good enough".
But the good news is, you're getting better, which will make it less frustrating with time. Frustration is generally the price paid for grinding your skills, and this is very true of pixel art. So work through the frustration and you will get better and it will be less frustrating as a result.
Unless you're like at me, where you quit anything you're bad at almost immediately, or (in this case) when you've reached the BARE minimum skill level necessary to diddle around some pixels without wanting to chop someone's head in half with a hatchet. But I don't even attempt to make my own sprites from scratch (except for this one time), let alone animate them. I have just enough pixel fiddling ability to get by.
