STORMCROW'S PROFILE

>look StormCrow

You see not a bird but an American lady who likes other ladies. Oscillates between shy as a mouse and babbling violently, seemingly at random.

I like badasses. I like babes. I like badass babes the best. Okay...actually I like doggoes the very best, but I aspire to make games about badass babes is my point.

I use music from bands and artists in the free games I make: the frustrated filmmaker in me is very enamored of scoring scenes with rock'n'roll soundtracks Scorcese or Tarantino style. In addition to being a time honored tradition in cinema, this has a history in AAA videoogames as well (for a really great use of it, see Bioshock: Infinite). If I was a millionaire, I'd totally license these songs so I could actually use them legally.

What are you thinking about? (game development edition)

Is it okay to restrict Save Points to increase tension (a la the Ink Ribbons & Typewriters in Resident Evil, the Dark Souls' franchise's extremely frugal placement of checkpoints) or is "save anywhere, anytime" an absolute maxim of good game design? Is it okay to expect players to get through a medium-long section of gameplay (towards the end of the game if it matters), starting over at the beginning of that section if they get game over?

I think I can finish by the original deadline. I'm almost sure I can finish by the end of the 21st.

@Momeka: the aesthetic you've got going on there is absolutely freaking amazing.

Thank you Red_Nova.

[RMVX ACE] Large Events & Collision Detection

@bulmabriefs: Actually, I already know how to create a solution/workaround using events, but it's more labor intensive and less elegant. As for the labor side of things, I'm working like a maniac on this game for an event that ends in four days so I'm trying to cut corners wherever I can to actually get it done. I don't mean to be rude, so thanks for spelling out that event logic, that looks like it took time. (I'm pretty good on the fundamentals: I've been around since 2k3 was brand new.)

Stop tiling, and learning how to zone.

While I am curious about what you mean and would like to read up on it some time, I don't think that it's mandatory for every dev, or even every serious dev, to not use tiles.

@Marrend: thanks you, I'll fiddle around with that if/when I have the time. It's a dilly of a pickle.

[RMVX ACE] Large Events & Collision Detection

So, the "Event Touch" trigger does not function for large events that "know" they're more than one tile big. I'm using GubiD's Large Events System for Ace. The script works in most regards: it increases the number of tiles an event will respond to for Player Touch and Action Button triggers, but Event Touch will never trigger. This is frustrating because I am making a game where you are chased by big monsters. If you stand still, the event can run into you until the cows come home and not trigger. If you walk into it, it triggers. I checked another project to make sure that Event Touch works in general (it does), and I removed the comment that "told" the event how large it was, and it was able to track me down and kill me just fine (as long as I stood still: Yanfly's Event Chase Player script is slightly wonky). But that meant it was behaving as a 1x1 Tile event instead of a 3x3 tile event in terms of running into stuff (so you couldn't, for instance, go into a narrow space to escape from it).

Anyway, I can work around this, but if anyone has any experience with getting large events to have proper collision detection in VX Ace.

(I'm getting the large monster graphics from Pioneer Valley games character sets. Some of the monsters are freaking insanely huge.)

What are you thinking about? (game development edition)

Is there a simple script call (VX Ace) that will cause it to wait for a random number of frames? There's no convenient way to tie the wait command to a variable using just eventing.

Theme Roulette

It is super unlikely I will have my game finished by the deadline. My idea got way too ambitious on me. I blame it on getting such a cool word. Still, I got like nothing but free time so I'll go for it.

Anyway, just came here to say that my word might as well have been armoire or escritoire. I have written those words so many times that they have lost all meaning.

Small progress...

That is...really creepy to watch. But kind of hypnotic. But mostly creepy.

@Marrend: Crow Storm is a really cool card. What set does that wrench symbol belong to? Is it real or "fake"?

I put in at least nine hours of solid work on my Abomination game yesterday, I like literally couldn't stop. Obviously it's going to be a horror game (that word does not have a lot of room for interpretation) and I used to (try to) make a horror games a lot back in the day, so I got to crack open my old reserves of creepy music and spooky sounds and playing with fog and lighting effects and all that stuff. It's been a long time and it's fun to dip a toe back into the scare-scare stuff.

(I'm really glad I didn't get Fart. Also if I had gotten Excuses I would have felt almost obligated NOT to turn in a game, and to make excuses instead, because I mean come on.)

I am GO GO GO!
