If I did stats again would you donate? (donation drive)

Sent about $15 Canadian. Which is like 40 cents, so...

what do the actual numbers look like? How much does RMN cost a month these days, and what's the current total of monthly recurring donations?

I'm actually curious about this myself, for a number of reasons.

That's an excellent point, the layout for the fonts is the same as what the window skin changer used to be. When the cursor highlights the font, it doubles in width to cover the whole section, then using the left and right arrow keys moves the options themselves. Whichever one is centered is the one you have selected. Never really thought about it, but it really is a terrible design. I'll whip something together and see how it looks. Thanks for the feedback.

EDIT: I've updated the image with the modifications I've made. I have to admit, this does look quite a bit cleaner with the typography aligned. I did like having the font names displayed, but as you mentioned, the names didn't offer any valuable information, since the font updates as you change it. I will say though, I do like having the different colors for the volume gauges, although again it's just a personal preference.

Just realized I could post this here and it would make more sense for seeking feedback.

I revised the menu system options script in one of my games. I changed the window color changer to be more dynamic, allowing for 64 colors instead of eight using only one image file, rearranged several elements, adjusted the gauge sizes and positions to maintain consistency, and aligned the text options for more consistent typography. I also added a bit more spacing between certain elements so that they aren't all bunched together.

I guess I'm curious if any of this screams of poor UI choices. Is it too much? Is there something I could do better, or rearrange to make more sense?

This isn't exactly released just yet (as of v5.9.2), but this is a concept for the revised Menu System Options. I wanted to rearrange things so that the typography is properly aligned, the gauges are of a consistent size and position, and to allow for a little more spacing between options. The window color changer is also much more dynamic, allowing for 64 different colors instead of just eight.

I'm thinking of releasing this soon as part of an update that will fix several other bugs that I discovered while casually playing through the game again, but I wouldn't mind getting some feedback on this first. How does this look? For players who have the current version, do you prefer how it is now, or would this be an improvement? For design geeks, is there anything about this that screams of poor UI choice? Is there something I can do better?

Does anyone even use RMVX any more? I feel like all the scripting knowledge I've gained is irrelevant now.

Okay genuinely, I love working with RMVX and it's scripts. I've gotten to know them like the back of my hand, to the point where I just like experimenting and seeing what I can accomplish. Just today, I found a way to make an item that can apply poison to an allies weapon so that their basic attacks and physical skills inflict a poison status ailment for a variable number of turns based on the quality of the toxin, and the characters name will be displayed with green text while their weapons are poisoned. Kind of like Oblivion and Skyrim. I remember asking someone for help with that about ten years ago and was never able to figure it out, but now that I've worked with this system for 10 years I was able to do it myself. I'm kind of nervous that jumping into a new maker will leave me back at square one, since it won't just be an unfamiliar language, but an unfamiliar system with a different set of base scripts. Meanwhile, I'm learning how to stretch RMVX to do things that I previously thought were impossible.

It's funny, I was just thinking that it would be interesting to see stats, simply so that we could see just how quote "inactive" the forum is. I'll happily donate to the cause when I'm finished work here.

Why are these forums relatively inactive?

I actually mostly use RMN from my phone, except for major updates or posting things for my games. But in regards to resistance to change or technological updates, it's kind of a moot point. Technology isn't bad, neither is modernization. If it was, we'd all still be using coal in our engines and heating our homes with fireplaces.

Huh. I thought all the newer engines used JavaScript, not Ruby. I guess it's not that hard to pick up on another language, they all function pretty similarly.

See, and I would personally disagree with most of that, seeing as I only joined this community last year. I had my game posted on itch for over a year and barely got any downloads and almost no feedback, but within a handful of months of joining the community, I got over 1000 downloads, a great review, tons of feedback and support, and I got to know the community a lot better as well. There are some great people here that make it really enjoyable to check in, and I don't even use the discord. Never was attracted to rpgweb, used to use RMRK back in the day, and coming here kind of felt like coming home in a way, because everyone seemed to be so supportive and have a common passion in indie game development. I never found that on itch or any other gaming communities that I've been a part of since RMRK. I think there's a lot of people who could find a warm welcome to a unique community like this.

Having said that, maybe my experience isn't exactly the norm. It's hard to say what experiences other have had.

I mean, we could do a Kickstarter or go fund me to raise money to hire a web designer or web design company to overhaul the website. Make it mobile friendly, modernize the website, improve the search engine optimization to drive more traffic here, etc. I would gladly fund it myself if I had the means, but a fundraiser could go a long way, and it would help band the community together. Just a thought.
