1/1.5 - so horribile I will not mention it. No one would like this trash.
2/2.5 - bad but with some good qualities or good
but with many bad flaws. Could have been worse and some people may like it anyway.
3/3.5 - from decent to good games. This is what I normally expect: entertainment. Some people may like it more, others less but it's ok!
4/4.5 - exceeded my expectations. These are must play for everyone.
5 - Rpgmaker Nirvana
*NOTE*: event games/jam submissions and other games that were developed in a very short time or with other restrictions get a rating bonus (usually +0,5), you are warned!

Legion Saga III Review
author=Tau
I've always thought the third is the best in the series. Yeah the story isn't as strong as the second but it makes up for that with much better pacing, balance & definitely presentation. In terms of graphical consistency this game is by far the best of the three, but it makes sense given it's the third part.
I absolutely agree. I don't know why many people thinks that the second is superior... i like both the last two, only the first one was... barely decent, due to the use of stock sprites, slow walking speed and boring characters (male black mage, female white mage, etc etc...)

I'll agree with the army battles, I saw what he was going for but they were basically just boring in the end.
Well they are just some sort of side activity, but yes, as a minigame they pale to the rest of the situation, story and gameplay.

I think overall this game is just a lot more fun & polished, enjoyable to playthrough because of how it was made. To me, this & Devil Hunter are the perfect examples of how to make an Rpg Maker 2000/3 game.
I hope to find some time to play and review Devil Hunter too! I agree, and as you can see I was less harsh than most of the others who reviewed this game :)
Skydancer - Completely Custom JRPG ENG
Great! I have the italian version of Skydancer and I hope to be able to play and finish that before this comes out! We'll see...

Addict, thank you so very much for this wonderful review. In my early 30s, with over a decade of experience as a creative professional under my belt, I am still AMAZED every time I learn that someone unironically enjoyed a game made mostly made back when I was as a 17 year old kid who didn't know nothin' bout 'nothin, least of all game design.
Ok, well I tried designing something myself but... maybe I am just inept, so I value a lot even something that you can judge amateurish and unprofessional.
Anyway I had FUN so I do not care of the many issues of the game... it's a period of its time when there were few resources and...
Well I cannot say anything else as I discovered Rmk only lately, but being and old gamer, I appreciate old-style rpgs, the references to System Shock and so on.
I mentioned Alter Aila and a Blurred Line in the beginning as I liked them too, despite being not without flaws.
But, I'll say that again, I had fun, so that's all. Many other boring fantasy jrpg instead were a chore to play, but this is not the case.

finally and most recently this crowdfunded tabletop roleplaying game.
Nice! This was not expected at all! I'll check that.
Anyway I have to check also the Backstag serie someday. I am curious. A lot.
And, to answer to your question, well, YES I'm playing for the third and last ending now.

So much for creators being able to evaluate their own work, right? Because while I look at it and and can see only old shame, clearly I'm in the minority.
I see that's a common thing, as I dismiss my drawings (and reviews too) as terrible. I know that everything could be fixed and improved, after some time. But yesm it would be an infinite business!
ONYX Review

Thanks for the review! I'm so happy people are still playing and enjoying this ancient game. I was a whole 17 years old when I made this way back in 2006. I had no idea what the heck I was doing then, but I guess I'd managed to stitch together something decent. haha
Surely more than decent! As I wrote in the title, appearance was misleading. I had fun, as playing one of my favourite games was made by someone that was 16 years old and copied many things from various Final Fantasy games... well these old games made with Rmk2000/2003 still have a special place for me.
Pity I have few time and still I've to check Onyx 2... but they are here, and I'm thankful for this! ;)
Fragile Hearts 2: Shattered Dreams Review

Thanks so much for your feedback! It's still a dream of mine to revisit these and improve them taking all the suggestions I've received over the years and finally completing the trilogy. Unfortunately, Crime Opera has taken over all my free time, and it will still be a while yet before I'm able to come back to these. I do still have hope, however!
Dooooon't worry! Crime Opera seems good, by the way I love playing all these little fun games, I've to try your Slew of Oldies someday too! Unfortunately many of the best series were left incomplete, but I was lucky to discover them, even if only nowadays...

Bonus chapter was nice but nothing special.
I guess that the Bonus chapter would make a LOT more sense if you had played Fifth Era - Fragments of the Holy Stone, another Rmk2003 (sadly untranslated) by LolloRocketDiver (some characters of Fifth Era are also opponents in the Arena). Man, I loved that game so much that I'd translate if myself for free in my spare time if I knew how!

Too bad my favorite subscribed games where I'm waiting (Forever's End, Love and War, Beloved rapture) on here aren't really making progress.
Agree, these three are among the nicest Rmk2003 games that I'd wish they were completed.
Monstrous Wars Review
author=Kaempfer
If I recall correctly, there were big plans to link all that weird stuff together, but King of Games moved on to different things. He and I were working together to overhaul combat, but the project was shelved before that came to fruition.
Helloooo! Well I hope that there was a project to made a coherent story of these (very good) adventures! It's a shame I discovered Rmk2k3 only recently and I missed the "golden era": some many good games came out, but I know that Rmk2k3 requires skills, time and dedication (I tried to used it with terrible results) so few of them were completed.
Still, there are many excellent demos, like this one, that show what the engine can do.
So yes, I had fun, there are lots of interesting ideas and details (even if I am sure there would have been even more in the making). Plus I like this graphic style much more than these of the recent Rmk editions.
In the end, even if not completed, I am thankful to find these games still available!

Very helpful review. Looking forward to playing this game some time this year. It's criminal it hasn't had more downloads from RMN!
I admit I played and finished the original version in italian (both at medium and hard difficulty settings), including the bonus parts, but I guess there are no big changes from the english edition (that I played to test it, but not fully as I already finished the game twice!).
It's a great game as it was the Fifth Era we mentioned before (older and simpler but still good).
Penance Review
author=BluePhoenixauthor=TheRpgmakerAddictYes, even though I started on VXAce eventually I sticked to rpgmk2k3.author=BluePhoenixHey hey I know that lots of work went in this game so my question is... will it still be for RMK2003? I hope so as I love the style of this Rpgmaker version(I don't expect a faceset for EVERY CHARACTER, even if I've a friend that does that in ANY game he makes..it's not necessary)
I'll let you know that there is a big update coming for Penance, one that can also be considered a 'remake'.
The gameplay, the main parts of the story and the battles are going to be the same, but the narrative and the characters are going to be vastly changed, all for the sake of the sequel that I'm currently working on.
Oh looking for a sequel too, strangely I expected a prequel instead... but a sequel is even better!
Nice! Hope you will stick with Rmk2k3 and this graphic style like many (quite recent) other games are in my opinion very appealing graphically. I also saw that many non-fantasy resources you used (such as the tanks and helicopters from Metal Slug) fit well the scenarios of the game.
