THERPGMAKERADDICT'S PROFILE

A player of almost every Rpgmaker2000/2003 game ever made (in english, italian, spanish, japanese, russian and german), fond of drawing (from portraits to pixel art), writing, rpgs (tabletop, crpg and jrpg) and fantasy addict (including Final fantasy, of course).

Review Vote Guidelines:
1/1.5 - so horribile I will not mention it. No one would like this trash.
2/2.5 - bad but with some good qualities or good
but with many bad flaws. Could have been worse and some people may like it anyway.
3/3.5 - from decent to good games. This is what I normally expect: entertainment. Some people may like it more, others less but it's ok!
4/4.5 - exceeded my expectations. These are must play for everyone.
5 - Rpgmaker Nirvana

*NOTE*: event games/jam submissions and other games that were developed in a very short time or with other restrictions get a rating bonus (usually +0,5), you are warned!

The Best Battle Animations You've Seen?

author=LordBlueRouge
But yeah, these probably aren't the best animations, but these are certainly the best rpgmaker2003 battle animations I've seen so far and I'm certain there are more rpgmaker games like this out there we haven't seen yet.

THANKS to you I was able to discover this game (and also the prequel). Nice animations, and also great game.

My favourites instead were those of Psycho Platoon, I love the art style and the animations and the effects of the moves are really professional (combat start at 17:21). Impressive work considering all the other games are almost cool as this.

Chain of Retribution Review

Instead, whoever had the game had full control over it and could do whatever they needed or wanted on any part of it, with no real limitations. At the same time, we didn't impose restrictions on how much or how little work each person could do on their turn, or the amount of time they needed to work on it.

And it worked very well as I played other chain game but this was the longest and best one I found!

author=JIHAUS
From the feedback we got, the game tends to be on the hard side but it sounds like you did just fine.

Well I had no problem at all, I got all the chests and I think this was easier that most other Jrpgs I played, not the easiest one, but I remember I had problem just with a couple of bosses (in the middle part, one is after the camp of the pic I posted) and with the ending fight... but I was able to finish it and I'm not a hardcore player.

Thanks for trying it out!

Well I played it to the end, so it was a good game with a perfect length and pacing. I also think that the game is good as it is now, no problem at all!

Great game, great review, great reviewer :)

Thanks! I've a soft spot for Rmk2000 & Rmk2003 games! Unfortunately I missed the "golden age" but I'm trying to find and play less famous games.
Anyway thanks alot since reviewing in a language that's not my native isn't that easy sometimes!

Theia - The Crimson Eclipse

As one of the players that completed the first version of this game to the end, I'm waiting for this. Looks good but I also liked a lot the music, the characters and the whole story! The game was even improved from the first release with additional art, so I hope this is released soon.

Hey rpgmakeraddict,
I will fix all those bugs for the next update, then let you know when it is out, so you can bump up your review to 4 stars!
Happy Christmas,
Faenon

Awesome! Feel free to mail me then! Happy Christmas!

Mystery Man Zero Review

Aw, thank you! I'll try to finish this one day. I'll work on it bit by bit like I did 'Sunnydale.'

Don't worry, take your time I still had a lot of fun with this version.

Few makers put so much care on details and style, I only remember another game that reach this level, and it uses Fire Emblem portraits and matching rpgmaker charsets.
It's rather uncommon, even rare if you search for non-fantasy jrpgs, and that's what I appreciate A LOT!
so it's ok! Thanks

Oh wow, a new review for TCS! The first one in seven years and the first one ever for the full game and not just the demo!

And I found the game so late! I also noticed that Ivan had a different name before, isn't it???

author=Faenon
I think you probably DO understand this game: the spelling errors and invisible sprites are all accidental errors and were NOT done on purpose. By the way, in the latest download of the game they have been fixed--if I manage to fix all of the 'little errors' in the game, will you bump me up to 4 stars?? No problem if not.

Hm yes, I guess, unfortunately english isn't my native language anyway I think I understand most of it! ;) But well, in the beginning I was thinking that the earth elemental WAS the floor (stone floor = earth elemental!) and that spelling errors were made as a reference to the "engrish" presentations of some characters in old games.

I said and I meant it, 4 stars would be!
Anyway I forgot to mention also a couple of other little things like the scientist falling asleep also in the prison break section were he is not present, and little some problems on the final section of the wind sphere tower part. Nothing much anyway!

author=Faenon
By the way, did you beat the whole game or just up to chapter three? Did you get to the bit where you get incarnated in the game as yourself? What did you think?

That's a spoileeeeeer!
Hey hey, I always play the games to the end! Like it a lot that part but it's a pit that the best parts came towards the end! Nice, some games become usually worse/boring during the end but this is not the case.

Oh, here I am, unfortunately there was no bald/shaven head option! :P

author=Faenon
Oh, and it IS possible to work out what different enemies Ivan and Jean's attacks are strong against--the best way is to use the "MINDREAD" command once you get Catherine.

Ok, true but you get her SO late, and also not always you've her in the same group of Jean.

I admit I seldom use the abilities that tell me the skills/abilities/weaknesses of the opponents... well ONLY with boss enemies, since usually you can learn them from their element type or appearance (for example in Fifth Era, one of my favourite games, you have a gunner that has different bullets, some strong against reptiles, others against robots, others against undeands... and you can guess them from the opponent appearance) and it's not worth losing a round as weaker enemies are... weak!

author=Faenon
Anyway, you should know that I take all my reviews very seriously and I will incorporate your feedback into my revisions of the game, as I am always editing and updating the download. For example I'm going to put some arrows into the Espia hub to show where to go as a few people have said it's a little tricky sometimes trying to get around there.

Hmm no need for arrows, as (I wrote that in other reviews) I found them distracting. I'd just put some signs on the shops, market, club and travelling station. Just to distinguish them.

So, many thanks for a great review, RpgmakerAddict! Happy gaming!

Thank you for the answer and the game, I know that it was a lot of work and well, it was a good result!

The Way EP 1 Review

Thank you very much.
I said this was one of the first Rpgmaker games I played, but the first was Fifth Era: fragments of the holy stone. This was a great italian rpgmaker game (you can see some videos on youtube including a complete walkthrough), sadly untranslated, by the author of Theia the Crimson Eclipse (soon to be translated). Tehn I moved to others until the recent Skydancer... some are parodies, others are serious but all these games had a strong Final Fantasy structure.
The Way was different. Totally different.

I agree on the plot twist, on the bad mini-games (for example Fey have better ones, but well these are just diversions and I do not care much about them) but I think that here the Rpgmaker 2000/2003 (my favourite editions) was utilized in an interesting... way! Some classical jrpg things were mantained (the combat), other things like the Plunge were interesting, and while not implemented perfectly, nonetheless I admire the choice to made something new.

I had a lot of fun playing episodes 1-5. Not the 6th. (that coincidentally is where the game becomes more usual- Exp points, party system and more dungeon exploring in the classical sense).

I Want to Bring Her Back to Life but I Don't Know Where to Start

Nice game so far! I like the charsets, scenery and system, I've to play it more to appreciate the story but I hope to finish is (need some time, sigh) and if possible I'll review it.

In the most recent version there's an option to skip the first puzzle if you give a wrong answer enough times (...for a price.)

well, it seems I did not try enough times! It's weird, I've played lots of rpgmaker games, even russian and japanese ones and usually I'm able to guess the solution of the puzzles, while I have an hard time with combat... here it was the opposite!

Anyway I didn't think this was a problem of the game at all!
