[RMVX ACE] [ARTISTS] [MUSICIAN] Recruiting Musicians/Graphic Artists for Indie Game "TITANIC TRENCH"
Pay is negotiable, but really we want people who want to do this for free and for fun.
This may become a commercial game in the future and all contributors will get some profit, don't worry.
Hmm... this sounds shady to me. I'm sorry, you probably have the best, most honest intentions but... yeah.
I doubt you are willing to invest money for a game which won't bring you any income in return, unless you are rich philanthropists.
I wouldn't apply for a project without knowing if the game will be commercial or not, or at least be given a price range of what you're willing to invest.
Musicians on the net (I know, I hired one) often charge by the minute. When it comes to graphics, it varies a lot, it also depends on a lot of things.
If you don't reach an agreement about money before going commercial, you are going to face a shit storm which will make your head spin faster than Schwinn bike you got.
All the best in your project. Remember, be transparent!
Gonna jump ship for a bit! No, it's not you!
@OP: Use your judgment when taking things in what's written here. Just because someone writes it, doesn't mean it's true. Keep in mind that not a single person here is "better" than you. They all have their flaws, just like you do.
Personally, I'll often read Liberty's messages and think they are hurtful and tactless. So this:
Also, the whole "I like you", I don't like "you", is a myth. On the internet, people like or dislike what they see, no one knows you. So don't take this as something personal. Maybe you lack some social skills but that's it, there's nothing more to it than that. You're still fine as a person, you just need to lean to interact better with others.
It requires a lot of courage, humility and guts to admit you're wrong. Some people will remember that they mess up too and accept that you screwed up. Others will conveniently forget their own fuck ups and give you a lecture instead. That's how it goes.
The reason why I'm writing this is that I've been where you are. I once accepted to be lectured by others about how "bad" a person I was and it damaged me for years. Be wary, be careful, use your judgement and remember, it's all about brushing up your social skills. The rest will follow. :)

Hopefully it helped open your eyes a little bit and with that you'll be a little more on the lookout when it comes to what you post and how it reads to others.is something that could be applied to more than one person...

While I have an aversion for anime/manga (any, not yours), I really do find your determinate and hard working! Well done!
Weekly Speedpainting Series
@Kylaila:
This is really good advice.
He's right about that too.
If you just want to create and share, that's cool, doing what you're doing right now works.
If you want to improve however, drawing from life is really the only way to do it. Froget imagination for a while and see how things really work in real life.
youre still inside comfort zone imo
if you want to try something new: forget subject and imagination for a second. paint from a photo of a badly lit flower vase using a thick brush (about 1/40th of canvas). complete the image as fully as possible within 5 mins
This is really good advice.
2-3 hours is a speed painting? I thought that meant more like 3-5 minutes.

[Let's Players] Let's players for indie games
@kory_toombs:
I appreciate the offer!
I'm looking for let's players for with quite a bit of subscribers, say at least 5000. Not saying that I won't send it to you of course, just precising what it is I'm looking for exactly.

[Let's Players] Let's players for indie games
Hey guys,
I'm about to launch my game and I'd like to share the demo with some let's players with *some* audience.
I tried wikipedia and other websites to find out which let's players would be the best choice but there are so many I find myself puzzled.
Do you guys know any let's players who do let's plays of indie games? I'm looking for LPers who are not stars like Pewdiepie who probably get thousands of requests every day. I'm looking for LPers for a have a reputation from being easily reachable and open to new, unknown games.
Any suggestions?

[Design] Stage Select Screen
Thanks for the replies.
@Milennin: Good point, will fix that.
@Snowold: Question marks are placeholders (but I should've mentioned that, my bad). Will give your suggestions a shot, especially the text size.
@Liberty: Well, I'm worried people will get fed up with having toasters crammed everywhere. Also, if I put toaster for the boss boxes, I won't have anything to put to fill in the background. I don't understand the pie chart thing unfortunately.
Ok, I'll try to think of another concept then. I just have no ideas at the moment, no creative ideas anyway.

[Design] Stage Select Screen
Howdiho!
So while I still got the title screen on the backburner for a while, I decided to give the stage select a shot.
The idea is to reproduce something which Megaman players will be familiar with:
I don't want to go ahead too much before the design is set in stone so that I don't do the same thing 15 times like for the title screen.
This is the concept I have right now:
So, of course, the idea is to have Pan look at the selected stage.
Is the setup ok? Do you think I should go ahead and detail the living shit out of that Stage Select screen?
Please accept my salutations and most beneficial blessings.

Please, Stop Writing Happy Endings
@emmych:
That’s not untrue, especially about the comedic elements present in his tragedies.
I had to dust off my books to make sure I knew what I was talking about and double-checked a couple of things on the internet as well.
Shakespeare comedies are quote wikipedia: “Several of Shakespeare’s comedies, such as Measure for measure and All’s Well That Ends Well have an unusual tone with a difficult mix of humour and tragedy which has led them to be classified as problem plays”.
Norton Anthology of English literature, p. 495: “That Shakespeare is “for all time” does not mean that he did not also belong to his own age. Shakespeare rarely invented plots from his dramas, preferring to work, often quite closely, with stories he found ready-made in histories, novellas, narrative poems, or other plays”.
I think that, part of the reason why this author is so enduring (probably eternal) is because he has tragedies in many of his stories which conform with the following definition:
a serious drama typically describing a conflict between the protagonist and a superior force (as destiny) and having a sorrowful or disastrous conclusion that elicits pity or terror”
-Merriam-Webster
You brought up a good point in saying he mixed comedy and tragedy and that’s pretty much how I think endings should be in my book, a bit of both (just like in life). What I’m trying to say is that the reason why his plays were so popular *might* be because they were based on real things in life, things people could relate to, both the good and the bad.
Can people really relate to 100% happy endings?
“Happy endings” in that sense, are somewhat shallow and won’t ever leave a strong impression as the end of a narrative. Sure, it’ll be comforting but it won’t leave its mark on you. What you’ll remember about the narrative isn’t the ending, that’ll come as a comforting afterthought, it’ll be the rest of the journey and the ups and downs that came along with it.
Liberty sums things up nicely with this quote (and I’ll quote her as I generally systematically disagree with most things she says… except her best blog picks, tee hee!):
“I wouldn’t call it a good ending, but I wouldn’t call it a bad one either – there was hope but there was disaster and it made from an interesting mix”
-Liberty
Just my perception.
