post=87405post=87376It's definitely more efficient to have 6 fully powered people instead of 3. It takes a TINY bit more effort, but it's better to have 3 more fully equipped, powered up, capable fighters instead of 3 Phoenix Down throwers. With 6 people at their best, not only could I have the extra 3 revive the fallen 3 (with an actual Revive spell at that, reviving them fully), but they can keep on fighting, and the process would continue, ad infinum.
With the way the system works you just need to have the 3 useless people around for 10 seconds to throw Phoenix Downs in case the main party dies and immediately switch back. Didn't see building the backup party to be worth it, especially as the average level of equipment you have on a person is obviously lower if you actively use 6 instead of 3.
The problem is that you can't have 6 people "fully" equipped due to most of the good equipment not being standard storebought. Other than that, yes, I agree, if you spend time leveling up your reserve party they are obviously more effective.
