Hi Friends,

I'm David. I'm a long time fan of indie games and especially RM2K/3. It's absolutely amazing to see what other have created here. I started gaming with the TI-99/4A computer with titles like "Hunt the Wumpus" and "Tunnels of Doom". Yeah...I'm showing my age here. From there, the classic old Sierra games like King's Quest and Space Quest were my favorite.

I'm working on remaking Tunnels of Doom with RPG Maker 2003, it an ambitious project giving this game an RPG story when it never had one before. In retrospect I probably should have remade Hunt the Wumpus first... it would have been a lot easier! (But then again... I'd want to give that game an RPG story as well!)

I'm looking forward to learning more about writing and character development here, as this is an area I can definitely improve on. So when I'm not doing my day job, I'll be here on RMN lurking and learning.

Feel free to talk to me, I'm easily approachable!

Demo available (looking for feedback)

Hi Kyoui!

I ran through the demo once, and reached the elevator with 4 bullets left for the P92. I didn't experience any lag, but I did notice that while I am moving with the arrow keys, I couldn't also aim with the mouse at the same time.

So when I was being chased by a spider alien, with the aim cursor in front of me, I wasn't able to aim behind me and fire. I had to stop moving and take a hit, then I could point and shoot.

You are off to a great start! This is really cool concept and I like the atmosphere you've made.

I'm sold. It looks awesome.

I haven't tried an RPG MAKER MV game yet... so I'm looking forward to it when it's available.

Hello intro :)

Hello ihavenoskin!

Welcome to the RMN forums. We're glad to have you in our midst.

We hope you enjoy your stay here.

What are you thinking about? (game development edition)

I'm thinking about making an Animal Crossing type game on RPG Maker 2003.
I've only watched my kids play a bit of "City Folk" on the Wii, so I know very little about the game itself. From what I've observed, your human character has moved into a random town filled with animal characters. There's a guy named Tom Nook that people either love or hate for reasons unknown, you collect insects and fish, and neighbors move in and out all the time.

Ok.. does anyone actually WIN an animal crossing game? Is there ever a point where you have seen and done everything?

The part that intrigues me is the "randomness" of everything. The town is never the same right?

Obviously RPG Maker 2003 has some limitations to what it can do. I wouldn't be able to, for instance, tell how long it's been since you last played and give your character bed-head hair. Nor would I be able to tell if you didn't save properly.

But there would be things that I COULD do, like make a huge random town with four seasons, have a Julian calendar, random animals that you can build relationships with and such.

Still, I guess I have to ask... what is the major point of such a game?

EDIT: I may not make an "Animal Crossing" game per se... but I'm intrigued by the open world with random stuff in it.

I've got a proof of concept for Four Weather Seasons here:

Castlevania - Sonata in Red

I just downloaded the game today... so I haven't got that far yet. But if I figure it out tonight, I'll report back tomorrow!
