Hi Friends,

I'm David. I'm a long time fan of indie games and especially RM2K/3. It's absolutely amazing to see what other have created here. I started gaming with the TI-99/4A computer with titles like "Hunt the Wumpus" and "Tunnels of Doom". Yeah...I'm showing my age here. From there, the classic old Sierra games like King's Quest and Space Quest were my favorite.

I'm working on remaking Tunnels of Doom with RPG Maker 2003, it an ambitious project giving this game an RPG story when it never had one before. In retrospect I probably should have remade Hunt the Wumpus first... it would have been a lot easier! (But then again... I'd want to give that game an RPG story as well!)

I'm looking forward to learning more about writing and character development here, as this is an area I can definitely improve on. So when I'm not doing my day job, I'll be here on RMN lurking and learning.

Feel free to talk to me, I'm easily approachable!

Infection

I downloaded this game about 11 hours ago, and I did not stop playing it... well.. except for lunch. I died, a lot! At first I save scummed the heck out of the game because I thought once you were diseased you were basically finished. I'd restore the game each time I was infected, but then after a few forced battles, I realized that there had to be a way to cure it. It wasn't until later that I found the clean wounds skill just sitting there in the menu... DUH!

I just finished the game an hour ago. It was hard, but very satisfying. I know that I missed items along the way, and for a while I was lost and had no idea where I was supposed to go. Oh and I couldn't stand those infected dogs! Fortunately Lucky was on my side!

All in all.. great game!

Blue Memories

Today I downloaded 3 games from this site and Blue Memories was one of them.

I have to say.. I enjoyed this game. I have a very open mind, and while this game might be off-putting for some, I just HAD to see where the story went. You peaked my curiosity and so I had to finish the game all the way up to the special ending.

I really liked how you created a spooky atmosphere, especially as you progress and there's been slight changes on the walls. When the words "Go Away" appeared, I had an inkling that something big was coming, and then when the window broke with a large hole.. I know I was in trouble!.

Loved the artwork for the first ending, and everything after that was just icing on the cake.

All in all, good job! I was thoroughly entertained!

Betwixt

Very cool Demo!
I really liked the animation you used when hitting the gong! Plus waking up the green monsters and having their noise affect your movement was a really nice touch.
The music is perfect in that it creates an eerie atmosphere and I'm expecting things to jump out at me.

All I can say.. is that I want to play more!

Revenge Explains Everything - Clichés To Hate

Well, I think it's more about how the game comes across. If the game comes across as barely touching the database, or other kind of next-to-no-effort attempt, it might fall under the Bad Content rule?

Or, maybe, it's a joke-example about what kind of game might fall under the Bad Content rule.

*Edit: There was also almost literally every game in this event where it was encouraged to use/abuse cliches.

Thanks Marrend,
This helps. I'll try leaving him in for now, as he is 1 of 12 characters and player does not HAVE to use him much beyond chapter 1 if they choose not to. I'm hoping to submit the game (still a work in progress) within the week, right now I'm removing assets and reducing file sizes, plus a few bugs/misspellings to correct.

Welcome, Waxius! I hope you enjoy your stay here.

Oh, just a recommendation, but try not to double post, but instead edit your comments using the edit button that should be at the bottom of your posts.

Thanks oddRABBIT! I wasn't sure what you meant and then I saw my two posts back to back above. I think I'm going to like it here very much, everyone seems to be very helpful!

Revenge Explains Everything - Clichés To Hate

I disagree. I don't accept cliche, or too cliche as an excuse not to play a game. Cliches are nearly impossible to avoid, because everything has been done before. As long as the game is good I'll play it. I hate it when people won't play games because of cliches that makes me extremely mad, or I should say beyond mad.

I've already violated at least a dozen cliches from The Grand List in my project. I considered purposefully adding more of them until I read the game submission rules. In particular, having "RTP hero Alex saving the world from a demon trapped in a crystal" is a big no no. Do people really refuse to play games that have Alex's sprite and name? I thought I was staying true to RM2K by having him.

It's not too late for me to change the intro and chapter 1 of my game... but man that'll be a lot of work.

That sounds like my evil twin.

Or good twin.

I'm not sure.

Xous would be my evil twin I think. I'll call myself True Neutral.

Welcome to RMN! There's no escaping, now.

This is sadly true...

Thanks everyone! I'm glad to hear it! I'm looking forward to playing your games and uploading mine soon. Just realized that I have to drastically reduce the games resource files and music file sizes!

Are you the evil counterpart of someone named Xius?

I'm afraid I don't know who that is... but I did know someone named Xous before!

Hello Everyone,

I'm so happy to see that there's still a very active community for RM2K and RM2K3 games! I used to be on RPGRevolutions years ago as a game reviewer, so I'm looking forward to possibly writing reviews here as well.

For my own personal project, I've been working on a remaking a classic game called "Tunnels of Doom". If anyone here is around my age (40), you might have played this game back in the day. It was for the TI-99/4a computer! Back then, games had no story line, so my project is to give this great game a story and still retain the "Classic" feel of the original game.

I'm looking forward to participating in this forum, having my game page added, and hopefully make some friends here!

Warmly,
David Bibby (Waxius)
